Is Mr. Handy Permanent?

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 4:21 am

Hello Fellow Overseers! :wavey:

Overseer of Vault 808 here! So I’m pretty new to the Vault game, and have a few questions related to the “helpful” robot known as Mr. Handy. I haven’t committed my buck(s) to getting any yet because I want to know how they work especially in light of them being an IAP.

My question is as follows: When you get a Mr. Handy via IAP is he yours “forever” like an “Ad Free” IAP or is he more similar to an IAP of buying additional resources in other games, (coins, jewels, diamonds etc.). For instance, if he breaks can he be repaired? Or, if for whatever reason (either moronic or accidental) I delete my vault) will I have access to my previously purchased Mr. Handy? Additionally, if I play on Survival mode and “lose” and have to start over, will any purchased Mr. Handy’s be given back to me?

I’m trying to determine if I want to spend money on one or a few or not. Any advice/expertise/experience will help.

Overseer J

He does not expire in time. He takes damage from raiders, deathclaws and incidents. He can be revived for 2000 caps if he dies.

Unsure about this, but dead dwellers disappear after 24 hours. A dead Mr.Handy may also disappear if not revived?

If you delete the vault or game, it is gone for ever. You need to acquire a new one for a new vault.

Same rule for all IAP in the game.

No, Mr. Handy is not permanent. He takes damage from raiders, Deathclaws, Molerats and fire, and will explode (quite spectacularly, IMHO) at zero health. Like SkyHiRaider said, Mr. Handy can be repaired for 2,000 caps but only after he explodes. If you delete your vault, Mr. Handy gets deleted along with all of that vault's items and dwellers. The same is true of a corrupted vault file.

Personally, I think he's only useful as a resource collector. Put all your production rooms on one level and drop Mr. Handy on that level to collect resources. That way they get collected in the background while you're scrolling through your explorers, moving dwellers around the vault, or passing out Stimpaks during an attack. Before Mr. Handy, I'd lose track of time while checking my explorers, and come back to find my resources in the red.

Mr. Handy is an utter nuisance during a vault attack on his level, always getting underfoot when I'm trying to Stimpak dwellers.

I personally wouldnt spend bucks on it. Its one mr handy for one vault. Delete the vault, and bye bye money. Plus Im not sure if Mr handy can be revived in survival mode either.. which makes him even less useful if thats the case.

To contrast the post above, I would recommend buying some if its on sale and you intend to endgame your current vault.

Mr. Handys make resource collection a non-issue and they help during incidents.

It's also not 1 mr handy per vault. Its 1 mr handy per level. I have 5 in my endgame vault collecting resourses to keep it running. So ya, at about $1 a pop they arent too bad.

the resource collecting isnt a necessity though, not on normal mode. My casual vault is maxed out on rooms, with almost every room having 2-3 workers in it (175 dwellers atm). All it takes me is 10 seconds of clicking on all the rooms from top to bottom, and bam! done. I dont have a Mr Handy, but I can only imagine it being a fun little novelty.

I still dont know if Mr Handy dies permanently on survival mode though. It would be a difficulty where his gathering is more useful when multitasking.

I bought 5 Mr. Handy's in the sale, was my first purchase. They make the game so much less annoying.

If you're deciding between buying lunchboxes or a Mr.Handy go for the robot, the lunchboxes are too random to be worth the real money.

Thanks everyone for answering this!!!!

Too bad the this forum doesn't have a thank you button.

I'll be waiting til I decide on my endgame vault to purchase one.

Mr Handy can't be harmed out in the wasteland. You send him out, and in about 3 & a half days he has 5000 caps. He is an automatic caps generator in this way, but slow. You can only send out 5 at a time, so don't buy 10 for the purpose of caps collecting.

I find it more useful in the early and mid game.

In the early game, it helps fighting fire and raiders, at the same time doing collection of power, water and food.

In the mid game, it helps collection when you're busy managing the dwellers and meeting objectives.

In the end game, the vault is safe, it is not much needed.

Mind you, he doesn't collect the bonus caps for production rooms, only the resources. So if you need caps, collect as much as you can yourself, or you will miss a lot of caps.
