Mr HandyGutsy Really Bothers Me

I had thought Krugerrands would have been perfect as unique salvaged coins; and only available (in quantity) from old currency exchanges, and some safety deposits.

Of course, the new cities could have always http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/Commemorative-coin.gif.

Even http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj125/Gizmojunk/c846cdf52440e63a7e968d18976e2602_zpsuvp3jsug.jpg would work better than Bottle caps.

Plot glue? What does that even mean?

Vault 87 was a vault that was intended to experiment with FEV. That's what the vault was about.

There's a perfectly fine explanation as to the existence of mutants. We know vault tec did awful things and we know what FEV is capable of. Where's this retroactive plot glue? It has no ties to any other part of the plot, and stands on its on entirely. 87 = FEV.

Again, you continue to use the world recycled, but I'm still unconvinced you know what it means.

If they were tossed in with 0 introduction, you'd have some basis of a statement. That is not the case. They are small, easy to carry, quite common due to the popularity of nuka-cola, but also next to impossible to replicate, and all of this is explained.

They shouldn't have had any FEV.
(It's explained in the previous games.)

*And Bottle caps are easy to make.
(Certainly easier than Bus Tokens.)

They shouldn't? According to what exactly? We know the intention of the vault was to test FEV, and we know vault tec had ties to the enclave.

And, I never said they were difficult to make but how exactly are you going to manage that without the knowledge or equipment? And also work out the fact that a counterfeit is easy to spot.

He means http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Retcon. i.e, later games changing the lore. And since it was done by new devs rather than the original designers, he doesn't consider it valid.

Bond doesn't follow a timeline; and it's based on the character James Bond... Fallout follows a timeline, and is not centered around a main character.

Fallout 2 showed the same world and certain markers of its history; they of course had new robots and new fiction, but they had its past intact.

(They even made jokes about Bottle caps. ~worthless junk in Fallout 2 )

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the Mr. handy is now on trial after the "Ghoul running man" thread fiasco. One particular individual pushing opinion as fact...etc. I won't even bother to contribute to this [censored]. I'll just grab the pop corn.

What does a podcast have to do with canon lore?

Unless they put it in the game, it can and will be disregarded completely. We have canon sources confirming why it exists on this coast.

The man speaking has nothing to do with the fallout franchise currently, so what does this have to do with anything?

I could post a link of a guy unaffiliated with fallout saying the opposite, and it would be just as relevant.

And your real world example has no place here. This is a video game universe. If your argument is "but a guy did it with a totally different type of currency" your argument stinks.

Would you like to try again?

No... Just terribly unfortunate and short sighted; and a tad disrespectful to the original devs and fans alike.

I've had my popcorn out for awhile.

Don't forget, the Fallout "fan"base is known for being one of the most volatile in gaming history. The hatred for Fallout 2 by Fallout 1 fans was, and is still, fairly legendary. Not even NMA can agree if they like Fallout 2 or not, and it only gets worse with each new installment in the series.

The best way to describe Fallout "fan"dom is a phrase used to describe one RPG site that can't be named here. I am paraphrasing this so it sounds kind wonky "they are a group that loves to hate the thing they claim to love"

I don't see how someone can eat popcorn to this.

It's the most one sided match up ever. Come on people.

OT: don't ask how Mr. Handy works. It's in a world where cars cause mini nuclear explosions when shot.

I'll probably re-open this later, but some of you clearly need a break. It's okay for some members to have a difference of opinion from you. Guys, you're not going to convince Gizmo that he's wrong about his opinions. You know why? Because it's an opinion, and his is allowed to be different from yours.

Edit: Re-opened now. Play nice guys, okay? Let's keep the bashing and moral outrage to a minimum?

If I recall there actually is a lore reason for the two different versions of Mister Handy.

The one we see on the east coast and in Nevada was the Mk.1, released in 2032-ish. The one we see in Fallout 1/2 is the Mk. 2 which was on a limited trial run in California right before the bombs drop, explaining why they're found there and not anywhere else.

But as for the IRL reasons, Bethesda probably just figured those hulking monstrosities were just plain ugly.

As has been said, their model had less legs; that has merit... Though I recall that all of the insects have six legs too.

My honest guess is that they probably never even saw what they were modeling; and were just given a verbal description.

As for the fiction, it's very probable that that's just retcon to explain the state of their game. It doesn't make sense that a limited trial run would include television commercials for it.

Given that its known every higher up, such as Todd and the like, played Fallout 1/2 during the making of Fallout 3, if not long before as well, that's impossible. Not to mention they had every single source doc and the like given to them, so they knew how everything was.

Its more likely they just thought it looked terrible in 3D, which it kinda does, and changed it to make it look better in the type of game they were making.

Having seen what the original looks like in 3d, yeah major need for an update for something that fits in more in a civilian setting. The Gutsy could do with being more obviously armoured and better armament, but even so the original doesn't translate well to 3d and I'm not having a lot of problems with the decision to replace it with a superior design.
