If I hang around Sanctuary too long...

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2015 8:40 pm

...most my settlers get stranded on the roofs of the houses. This was amusing at first being the typical "Bethesda Bug" that it is. Now it is highly annoying when about half my traders are stuck just out of reach.

I would love to see this fixed, but since it is not causing CTDs or breaking quests I know it won't.

Just make stairs to them and they'l come down. Then remove the stairs afterward.

its mildly annoying, I solved this by putting stairs up to the roofs and that seems to solve the problem.

Had noticed it myself. Would be nice if it got patched somehow.

Does Bethesda even have any kind of "bug reporting" system? Surely they don't wade through all the drivel on this board to try to find bugs? If they do have a bugs reporting system might be a good idea to post about this in that.

Jet Pack. Mine walk right off the roof at red rocket. Looks like there's some ramp encouraging them to do that so I put a foundation underneath to catch them. They dont get hurt much but they go oomph, so I made it less of a drop and put stairs on the landing. Running stairs up would have required making a floor on the sloped part of the roof and then they'd likely just walk off somewhere else.

Just leave them there, they will come down. As for the caravans, they may be stuck inside the houses (they will be gone after a day or so). I don't care much because the supply lines still works and it seems like stuck NPC may use a little magic and manage to get unstuck by themselves. The caravans should never enter your own villages, just stop little bit outside and then return to other places.

Carla's pack Brahmin spent most of its time on that roof. Preston had his share of roof time, too. I 'fixed' it by moving down the road to Red Rocket Truck Stop permanently.

I haven't had any settlers on roofs.. Carla's pack brahmin occasionally gets on top of something. Make sure to assign everyone tasks and beds. .. that seems to clear up a lot of stupid wandering. The only wandering characters that don't make much sense are Codsworth and Curie. In Sanctuary, all they do is go back and forth between a yellow house and a blue house. I can't assign them to do anything. I also had to put gates around to appease Prestons pathway.. He didn't seem to enjoy being fenced in and would just continue his path whether it was blocked or not. He stopped after I had done his quest and could actually assign him guard platforms.

Agree it seems to have very little real impact on gameplay, and NPCs definitely have the capacity to teleport through obstacles. But it is nonetheless a bit 'unpleasing' aesthetically to see a Brahmin on a roof, or running in place in someone's bedrom, or Mama Murphy loitering up on the roof, etc.

If I go to Castle... I get annoying radio announcement to go on some mind numbing fetch quest for someone that got kidnapped or nagged about some gouls or supermutant base they want me to take out. If I try to use my level 3 vendors in Sanctuary, I'll randomly get more of the same. Gonna use the console to bring those level 4 merchants in.. hopefully patch that problem.

Makes me want to destroy all my settlements since they can't do anything for themselves. :)

Why exactly does Preston need his share of roof time though? I know he sees Trashcan's brahim up there, but does he really believe that the brahim knows a good time, and so he feels the need to get some share of roof time for himself? Makes me wonder.

The pathfinding in this game is atrocious. I routinely see settlers mashing themselves into walls, just feet from an open door. Or they'll walk right up to a door but can't seem to figure out how to go through (Dogmeat is particularly bad for this).

Then, somehow, enemies never seem to have these issues when pathfinding to YOU. Figures.

LOL!! Hilarious
By the way I have never had anybody on the roof in Sanctuary? Not complaining, just surprised because so many others have issues with this. I never built stairs to go up there, perhaps that is why? Or maybe I just never spend enough time there.

The carpenter guy likes to go up on the roof of the house that has the workbench. He bangs away with his hammer and then comes down sometime later. He thinks he is fixing the holes in the house but I never notice any difference. He's a terrible carpenter.

Every time I play a male character, if I have Preston Garvey as a companion and I see that "Relationship" dialogue option, it makes me think of this one Reverend Horton Heat song . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0DtzzkGY1Y

Fast travelling should fix it. It did for me at least when Sturges got stuck up there even though I was considering using a fatman to help him down at first.

I haven't had any settlers on roofs yet, but I did travel to one settlement and there was a BOS Knight standing on a roof for no particular reason......I couldn't find any sign of any other BOS, Just that one Power Armored guy who apparently had decided to defend one of my settlements.

I've only had one person on one roof so far.

It was the depressed guy from Sanctuary.

He was just standing there.

At the edge of the roof.

Staring.

I had assumed that it was actually intentionally scripted at first and went up to "talk him down", thinking he was planning to "jump". No such luck, just regular conversation.

I see him back there every so often in his favorite spot on the roof, looking out over the Wasteland and contemplating his own mortality.
