Happy or Disappointed?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 5:58 pm

I'm curious as to the overall breakdown of peoples opinions on the game. To me you're either Happy or Disappointed. No two ways about it. I also think the overall game can be summarised into key categories.

I've been thinking about everything that Skyrim has to offer; (obviously this could be broken into hundreds of sub-categories)

* Visual & Audio experience - Graphics & Sound...

* Gameplay & Mechanics - Including new Character progression, New radiant AI, New Skills/Perks etc

* Story - This includes the main quest and side quests. Well written? Fun?

* Ambience - Surrounding events that occur. The 'real' world being alive in the background.

* Game Evolution - Progression from Oblivion

Most of this will be subjective. The ambience for example, I think it's quite well done, with a busy background world going on and I think it's achieved this. Others may feel that it's quite scripted and not very sandbox like.. however they prefer this and they're happy with it.

Curious as to the overall consensus when you're forced into a positive or negative response.

Again a vote with no middle ground, so I voted all "Happy"

There are points within groups of things that disappoint me, but as a group I'm happy with them

Couldn't be happier.
It seems Bethesda learned from their mistakes in Oblivion, and the things they did right in Morrowind and Fallout 3, and created a truly amazing game.
The game is beautiful, the quests interesting, and the new additions like crafting and companions are really great.
The new skill/perk system works so much nicer then the horrible +5 multiplier system the older TES games had, there is no need to powergame Endurance and the like, I can just play the game naturally and stick the points where I see fit.

I would like to see the companion system deepened out a bit more, and perhaps the magic system could do with some rebalancing (I haven't dug too deep in magic yet but have read the discussions) but besides that I think the game is wonderful as is.

Happy with most things other than gameplay/mechanics, as those have been dumbed down for COD fans.

Are you effing serious? Do you realise how ignorant that statement is? The gameplay isn't dumbed down at all and COD fans have nothing to do with this game, looks like forum mentality has a tight grasp on your mind.

Can't vote, the options are too black and white to reflect my feelings in the following sections: -

* Gameplay & Mechanics
* Game Evolution

Would have voted "happy" in the rest.

Happy with everything. I'm happier than expected with the graphics to be honest. After some tweaking I think my game looks gorgeous. This is proof of why it is good to have low expectations :)

Only thing I HATE is the visual bugs. I have a jarring visual bug (Z-fighting on mountain snow LOD) that makes me game visually unplayable. Hate it.

Disappointed with gameplay(combat)/mechanics, rest relatively happy. Dialogue is a little weak though, with very few options for the PC and a little too many standard cheesy RPG tropes so far.

I voted on happy on all points except visual and audio, not because it looks and sounds bad because it certainly doesn't, but because of the fps issue on ps3.
Otherwise its easily my favourite game of all time.

Theres always good and bad in any game....

"Morrowind was better than Oblivion because.... blah,blahblah "

" Oblivion was better because..."

If I was inna PC with someone who was a "Skyrim really devoted fan" and hadnt played previous elderscrol games I might expound the aspects of those previous games and get all old man on em " I used to walk 10 miles in the snow.... up hill... barefoot..."

And there would be valid points.... but the truth is that I've LOVED each and every Elderscrolls game I've played.... and Skyrim is no exception....

ITS THE GREATEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED......... again : )

Changing to only Magic, Stamina, and Health is pretty dumbed down. Perks is pretty dumbed down.

All that they did was do things for us so we don't have to think as much. Well, I don't want them to think for me or to decide for me. I want to decide for myself, for better or for worse. Anything otherwise simply ruins the experience of the role playing element (imagining you are the character)

It is as if the game has great freedom in physical exploration (although certainly not as much as Morrowind, but that is understandable!) but has lackluster freedom of, let me say, mental exploration. Again, for me this is mainly caused by changing how stats and attributes and such work, the character creation method being replaced by a perk system method, and just simple things like taking out spells and also a great reduction of customizability in clothes/armor and spell creations (which has for some reason been totally done away with).

It might be fine for some people for these things to just be simplified in the name of "redundancy", but for some people, like me, it is simply not acceptable.

i'm happy i suppose, thought alduin was a little lame, really thought they would go with the alduin is akatosh thing...but o' well. On the xbox the ui is really good, but i could see it svcking for the pc. Combat is the weakest link in any es game, although they have done a decent job of making it slightly better than ob. The audio is amazing, and the visuals are stunning, i can remember walking along the first stream you find past helgrid (or whatever the military post is) just looking at it. The map svcks though, pretty but the fog makes it about useless, and why the hell is there fog on my map?

I'm happy about everything except #2, and even with that, I'm not overly disappointed..there's just a couple nitpicks.

Perks are cool, but I'm missing stats. The new favorites menu? I'm getting used to it, but Oblivion's hotkey system was so much easier, especially for spells and potions. The Favorites system is so damn clunky. Slows the game way down every time I need to switch something on-the-spot.

Did you have to put graphics and audio into one? Musics and sounds are amazing but there is much to be done with the graphics..

Happy on all accounts regarding the poll, however, had you asked about the controls and UI, that would've been an entirely different answer.
