Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

If done properly (for the love of all that is holy not canned!) it is a delicious, high quality dish that can be served any number of ways

It's only sold tinned here....

My way of celebrating this holiday is by devouring tons of delicious corned beef. I'd drink too, but, well the age thingy kind of gets in the way of that.

Move to Germany for St. Patrick's day, there the legal drinking age is 16.

What is this obsession with corned beef in America? Here it's just a poor quality tinned food, not some sort of inherently Irish dish.

Is there an obsession? I never noticed honestly, I just know it tastes really great when (as Wyatt said) prepared properly, and St. Patrick's Day is when it's easiest to find in restaurants. I don't particularly like it in the form you'll normally find here, as cold cuts meant to be put on sandwiches, but instead as a normal entree. I don't know how it is when canned, I've always had it either home-made or at restaurants, none of which were really the "dump a can of meat on a plate and serve it" type of place.

I loved having the tinned one for breakfast. One of my favorite breakfast foods is having it mixed with sour cream and with some eggs and refried black beans.

My mom prepares this soup every once in a while that's got only a little salt in it, but she heavily salts the corned beef so they go really well when you put the slab of corned beef in the soup. And yeah, this isn't very relevant, but the prospect of having that soup is more exciting to me than going out and drinking and that would also be true if I did drink. IT'S SO GOOD.

We tend to make it into sandwiches or stews, but it's something you'd eat while camping or destitute, not something you'd eat if there was any alternative.

Turns, are you perhaps talking about corned beef hash? That is sold in a can here and as far as canned goods go its good breakfast food.

Next thing you'll tell me is that I'm not supposed to enjoy Surstr?mming. Mmmm, rotten fish. ;)

I don't know what to tell you except corned beef doesn't have that kind of reputation here. It's just another food. Then again, there was that one time I ordered Corned Beef and Cabbage at a local restaurant, and caused the waitress to yell out to the manager "Hey Mack, we gots another homeless guy ova' here, get Big Pauly to escorts him out wills ya?" Hmmm...

The waitress also had a gun... ...where the hell was I eating?...

I'm like 1/32 Irish (probably less), but not old enough to drink. I will celebrate by drinking plenty of Mountain Dew. Hey, it's green, right?

I live in the un-cultured southeast US, so I would have forgotten if it weren't for my friend wearing green eyeliner and her "Flogging Molly" t-shirt.

Wore my Dropkick Murphy's shirt. I'll go out drinking tomorrow or Saturday, I need to be alive tomorrow morning and not nursing a killer hangover, so it's just the one beer tonight. Ironic given that I'm the only Irish person I know of in my sixth form and I seem to be the only person not celebrating it tonight.

Just got my girl from work and heading to the bar in a few minutes. Not wearing green but I have a red goatee. I figure if I fake an Irish accent, I'll get some free drinks. Then I'll go home and watch Boondock Saints and hopefully sleep in my bed and not on my bathroom floor.

Didn't plan to celebrate, but I did end up enjoying a Guinness with a bunch of Irish guys in the local English pub.

I went drinking after uni finished at 1pm. Just got back (7pm). I got me a Guinness Hat! :D

Today has been grim. Hangover and a lecture. Last night was great though, got me a hat (with a beard on it) and somebody had some green face-paint, which I applied liberally to anybody I thought needed it.*

Pro-tip: Guinness and Rum don't go well together.

Headache not as massive as usual. Might be the few litres of water I drank through the whole evening, in addition to other stuff.

Nope, it's 18 now.
