Happy with new info?

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 1:11 am

Hey guys, just a few things I was wondering. I've been seeing alot of people saying that they were no longer picking up Skyrim in light of recent announcements and alot of people embracing the changes so I'm just wondering how many of you are liking what you have heard so far and how many of you are upset with the latest news.

So lets hear it, are you still planning on picking up Skyrim? If yes, which changes are you most excited about? If no, what was the deal breaker?

Also you guys should be proud of me, no spam option!

I will be getting it and playing it to figure out what I like and don't. The demos and info are not often indicative of how much i will enjoy the actual experience of playing it myself.

There are a lot of things I don't like about the new info, but I'm still getting it, because it's an Elder Scrolls and I'm interested in the story. They could crush is down to a simple adventure and I'd still get it, but that doesn't mean I have to like everything.

Definitely picking it up. Bethesda has never let me down before. I like their games and they always seem to work hard on them. The amount of time and effort gone into this game is enough for me to appreciate it. That being said, just because you take x amount of years to do something doesn't guarantee its quality. Nonetheless, Bethesda games are constant hits with me, although I often compare them with the current state of the industry games - titles with eight hour campaigns and online play being the best feature - so I may be a little bias.

Also, I've been watching Game of Thrones lately.

Also, I have nothing else to play.

I've been pretty disappointed with the game's info myself and have decided to definately rent it first before buying it. I'm hoping that it'll surprise me though and that I'll enjoy some of the new stuff.

I tried to keep the poll unbiased though.

lol! some people make me laugh :)
they read it might have some sort of health regen so oh noes!!!! its not the 'hardcoe' RPG that they wanted!! wah wah wah!!
grow up guys!! seriously some of these clowns are jokes, i am sure some people have nothing better to do than just complain and moan about every single thing! even if you gave them their 'perfect' RPG they would find something to bring it down and pull it to pieces!!
i am def getting Skyrim, and yes its a role playing game, other people say what you want, but gran turismo is a racer, halo is a shooter, fifa is a football game, tekken is a beat em up, and Skyrim is an RPG....simple! nuff said! :)

Meh some things are good some things are bad. But overall the good outweighs the bad. I think that the shear size of the game is the main thing I'm looking forward to. I would even go as far as to say they can merge 2 more pieces of armor but if the game is still brobdingnagian then I'm all peachy ;)

Swings and roundabouts. Regenerating health is, in my opinion, a completely bizarre move, I have no idea what is behind their thinking. If someone at Beth really believes that FPS fans are more likely to buy this game because health regenerates slowly, then I think it is time for some heads to roll.
On the other hand, being able to cook Dragonflies. I cannot wait to get stuck into this world. Might sound daft, but so is being able to put shoes on a roof, and TES delivers with that too, now that's what I call a sandbox.

I'm pleased or neutral about everything other than merged armor, no spell making, and "BLOODY SCREEN... SO REAL" splashes of blood on the "camera."

My anticipation has only gone up in recent months.

Definitely buying. Cause Bethesda really moves progress in RPGs, even if they have to make unpopular decisions. Shame that some developers still think that role-playing is all in character sheets, dice rolls, warrior/mage/rogue classes and choosing 1 right answer from 3.

I don't understand why you would be on a forum for a game you weren't going to buy. I'm not going to buy the next Modern Warfare game, so I'm not on that forum. Is it just to complain about the game? Is that necessary?

I'll be getting it on release day, already have it preordered at EB Games. Not a lot could deter me from this game... I love most of the new screens and info (besides maybe health regen) so I can't complain. I'll be playing it on PC of course! I haven't been a console gamer since SNES. :P

Hey now, I just released an update to my natural healing mod, and it's very balanced. Nothing wrong with regenerating health, so long as it's not ridiculously fast, and overpowered.

Aside from that, I think they like using my mod ideas, nearly every mod I've ever made has been incorporated into their games. (There must be a fan of my work on their dev team.)

I don't mind, it's actually kind of nice, saves me some trouble modding the games. :)

Well, I do find the temptation to start a Bioware forum account, just to say what I think of them before being banned, hard to resist at times.

Fair enough, but to install a mod is a choice, and I have a feeling there will be quite a few console players ( who they are fond of citing as their majority of sales ) not happy with this, and unable to mod it out. Nit picking, I know, but if you are not happy with something, say so. It's still in all probability going to be my favourite game of all.

Even though in Oblivion you could sleep 1 hr in a bed and be completely back to full health :) and do we know yet that this health regen is fast, slow or a spell or perk please?

I smell Bethesda fanboyism here. Bioware isn't a bad company, they could do some things better, but they're not bad. They have different development teams as well and their Mass Effect team definitely isn't the best one. Something to really hate about Bioware, however, is their forum moderators, specifically for the Old Republic forums. By far, some of the worst forum moderating I have ever come across on the internet, it is entirely laughable.

Not that it's anyone's business but mine, of course, but I had received an infraction there once for saying that the Empire were like Nazis... needless to say, I was speechless for days. Total  move.

Aaaanyway... on topic: Yes, I am very happy with the new info! I am not so happy that hand-to-hand combat seems to have almost no place at all in combat, despite Ashley Cheng saying that hand-to-hand monks were a viable option, I am not so happy about the removal of attributes, particularly athletics, speed, and endurance, and I am not so happy that many little things that were cut for weird reasons that only God and Bethesda knows. Overall, however, I am fairly happy with the direction this game is taking. I am extremely thankful of the graphics overhaul, most notably in character models, and I am really looking forward to this "radiant story" aspect of the game! Most of all... I can't wait to SLAY SOME DRAGONS! RAWRG!!

the clairavoyance spell supposedly replaces quest arrows so im happy about that. even on the off chance that quest arrows are in since npcs supposedly give more info depending on how they like you ................im on pc so i can mod it. :)

dont have to use cheat travel now that they have carriages....................dont even have to be on pc for that one. :)

no dwemer automatic crossbows.....................im on pc so i can mod it. :)

horses have asses that are so gigantic that they rival some of the ones i see at great america over the summer.................unfortunately probably not going to be able to do anything about that one :sadvaultboy:

It's all good, I was just saying. :)

I'm thinking it's probably similar to my mod, and very slow, to the point of almost not mattering at all. (It takes a really long time, it's based on how hurt you are, and how much (max)health you have, fatigue, willpower, etc,. But it can easily take over 30+ minutes real time to fully heal, or more.)

(It's likely a perk, but who knows.)

Because BGS won't listen to complaints in this game are made silently or on other forums? We complained wildly about certain things, some of which have already been (somewhat - if enough remains to be seen) addressed. Even if some of the things we complain about doesn't make it to release day, they might setup the needed data structures to support such ideas in the future, like making things easier for modders or plan some DLC strategies.

Personally, I'm on the fence. I know I will get it, but being quick about it is no longer a priority. Unless I read otherwise after release, there appears to be too much stuff that needs to be addressed by mods before I think I can actually enjoy this fully. I did the mistake of playing FONV without hardcoe the first playthrough, and it ruined the game for me. Why? Because it added so much extra fun and things to consider, and when I did activate it for the next playthrough, I felt I already new the game inside out - I've done most quests, visited just about every place the game had to offer. Doing a completely new character build focusing on other skills, and being able to go an alternate main story route, helped of course on replayability. At least for me, it's impossible to unlearn what I know from earlier experience, even if I try to.

Some of the people that claim to hate Oblivion put over 1000 hours into playing it.

Well, I haven't counted hours, but I guess I qualify kinda sorta. What other good alternatives are there? My requirements:
* Non japanese in style.
* Not too high fantasy (MW and SI was a bit over the top, although I enjoyed MW somewhat).
* 1st person is an absolute must, unless party based (but I'm kind of tired of party based).
* Awesome lore and above average quests.
* Randomized, with high replay value, or an insane amount of time to play through everything. Daggerfall had some of it, has been limited since.
* Huge scale and scope (recent TES games fails this, skyrim may have the scope, but is it correct scope, but scale I can't believe).
* Great visual character customization. It shouldn't matter to me, yet it does. TES is midlevel, I assume it will improve.
* Massively supported by mod SDKs and have a good modding community.

What are my choices?

Jeez, you make a lame half assed joke comment, and you get grief, in pink! :whistling:
Anyway, kind of on topic, and OT to the off topic, there is one thing, and one thing only, that would stop me buying Skyrim, and that would be Beth saying they had the right to stop you playing a game you have paid good money for. Now who can you think of who does that? Fanboyism indeed.

Properly OT : There are plenty of things I am not happy about, mounted combat, health regen, fonts, HUD messages and markers, hand to hand, dragons actively seeking you out 'cos the games decided you have missed out on 'awesome' for a while, and worst of all, the compass in the sky.

None of this, however, will matter a damn if the whole thing hangs together as a whole. I am ggoing to play a game, not a bunch of features. And imho, the game as a whole will be the best thing until the next TES.
