Hard Core Mode? Yay or Nay?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2009 8:30 pm

Only maybe after others have tried it and I've beaten like 100% of the game. Also, if there is, would it disable fast travel?

But...

It's hardcoe MODE.

I don't understand what you lose with it's implementation.

What you potentially lose, is developer time that could have been spent elsewhere :P

Haha, yes.

That's another thing, I see no reason to disable it honestly. You could always just not use it if you cared.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but would you like to see a hardcoe mode similar to that in Fallout: New Vegas, giving everything some kind of weight and requiring you to eat/drink regularly?

Everything already has weight and TES has a better encumbrance system than Obsidians NV. Unless hardcoe mode utilized permadeath I dont support it. And IF the mode made it to the game in the manner you're describing (i hope it doesnt) than it should be renamed tamagotchi mode.

Given that I play every game on Easy and usually in God Mode, I'm going to go with "no" personally, but it's a nice idea for those who want it.

Well, the point why everyone hates Fast Travel is that it's so tempting. One day, you can't resist it and just have to use it, and then you would be happy if it just weren't there.

"hardcoe" mode is just a excuse for ridiculous bragging.
A set of toggle mode features like Realistic Damage/Combat & Survival would be good. Rolling it all together as hardcoe mode, no.
If you want Realism to that degree, after eating and drinking, mandatory bodily functions should also be included...

I personally don't care if they put it in or not. I wouldn't use it at all, I don't really enjoy it.

I voted yes. I loved hardcoe in Fallout New Vegas. I like the idea of having to eat and drink and survive on top of questing. It will add to the immersion of the game and difficulty.

Because you say so?

Oh brother.

That's like that perma death argument. A complete fallacy.
One could want one without the other and be accused of inconsistency for all one cares. This is not a matter of morals.

And don't forget sleep. And no instant heals. <-- probably the most important difference,

I found it fun and aided the roleplay/survival element for my first couple playthroughs, but then I turned it off because it just became more of a hassle to me. .

My opinion depends entirely on what hardcoe has.

Things I'm in favor of:

█ Diseases

█ Instant Fast-travel locked

█ Serious Injuries (Think Diseases, except a chance to process when you take a Power Attack)
[figured I'd elaborate]: Debuffs applied to the player for, what essentially amounts to poor choices in combat. Can only be cured by powerful Restoration or master alchemists at apothecaries. Adds higher stakes to encounters, especially for encounters with lower-level creatures/people.
Examples:
?Fractured Wrist: Reduced Critical Chance.
?Dislocated shoulder(L-R): Reduced weapon/block effectiveness
?Severe Laceration: HP Reduction
?Concussion: Decreased magicka regeneration(if applicable)/reservoir (if not.)
?Blood Loss: Increased Stamina costs and reduced Stamina regeneration.
?Mortal Wound: Damage Over time

█ Reduced Healing(item) effectiveness (Stimpac Nerf in New Vegas)

█ Reduced Skill XP gain. (Not reduced XP gain, since that would effectively lower your theoretical cap)

Things I could take or leave:

█ Basic "Needs" (Food, Water, Sleep)

█ Additional Inventory Burden. (Works in New Vegas better because of Ammo)

Things that Seem more trouble than they're worth:

█ Prolific Environmental Hazards (Cold).

█ Any ridiculous "needs". (Defacation/Urination)

█ Anything that imposes a Time limit on the game itself (Aging)

Given that I play every game on Easy and usually in God Mode, I'm going to go with "no" personally, but it's a nice idea for those who want it.

Easy and God Mode? You might as well read a book, they don't bite!

Then it would make sense for it to disable the new carriage system too.

Yay, again...
But I like voting in polls, so its no bother.

Skyrim is a brutal place, not for the faint of heart, it should feel like it. If I get caught in a blizzard, I'd like for an option to see a consequence...

hardcoe sounds awesome. A little improved would be great. Fast travel, yes its tempting, but would like it OUT. And replaced with something like the Silt Strider (or similar to fit Skyrim's environment) in Morrowind. 500g.haha. Or less. So you're more involved with the game. Work for your fast travels. And they are to be mixed. So town A is linked to town E. So when you think about the trip, walking is shorter then to take two fast travels to get to your destination. This can vary in a different sequence. Could depend on if its available. Eating seems like its part of the game since we able to cook. But advance for hardcoe would be cool. Being cold sounds interesting. I'd carry a torch to warmup. And the ability to set up camp would be amazing. There, you can quickly make your arrows, if alchemy is stationed, but still able to carry your equipment, you can make potions at camp. Craft, sleep, cook(cut wood for fire), heal youself, read a book, keep warm from a lil cold front, etc.

hardcoe is good. Why not, as long as it could be turned off at will. Many people like very much to be owned.

New Vegas hardcoe.... fvck no. But, a more engaging, less annoying micromanagement based hardcoe mode, hell to the yes.

That! [censored] THAT!

Why? The carriage system is completely different. If you pay for it, and it only goes on certain routes, then it should stay. I see no sense in that statement. But obviously everyone has a different opinion on what a hardcoe mode should be. No way everyone's gonna be happy.

There shouldn't be a hardcoe mode. Those things should be mandatory.

They should make it really hard, then add a hardcoe mode, and leave all the variables open so we can make it even harder.

... I voted yes ...

Yes, but I'd like to see more conditions that just eating and drinking. And for the love of god, please give it a better name than 'hardcoe Mode'.
