Hard Trails and Dirty Business

Story

The year is 2291, and in the wasteland of what had once been the state of Montana, an up-and-coming caravan company, is starting to branch out from it’s usual little trading circles in the old state. Run by the hard-as-nails boss, Lenny Crane, a former mercenary and caravaneer himself, out of the old city of Helena, he sees that the time for expanding trade to new lands, is now.

But, the Crimson Caravan Company, a known entity, but never having a major foothold or presence in the area really, stands in his way. Luckily for him, the company is in turmoil, and the trails west look like easy pickings. Although lately, word from the California HQ wants all Crimson Caravan forward trade posts to make headways into new lands, and secure what they already control, to show more than anything, that they might be weak, but not weak enough to be messed with.

Lenny Crane and those of Helena Trading Company, want to change that, and take what western routes and trading posts they can, from the weakened and chaotic Crimson Caravan Company. Even if that means shedding blood to do it, Lenny Crane wants a westward expansion, and his caravaneers and guards are going to do just that, or die trying.

Your Involvement

In this RP, you are apart of just one of the many members of the Helena Trading Company, striking out west from none other than Helena itself, with a train of six fully packed brahmin, ready to take from the Crimson Caravan what had once been theirs, but is not to be any longer. The journey will not be an easy one, visiting new trading posts and towns, with plenty of death all around -- in and out of the wasteland. If it isn't raiders or the wildlife trying to kill you, it'll be other traders along the way.

All players will be in the same caravan, which means I will only be accepting a limited number of players, seven (7) to be exact excluding me (eight in total), and so a strict limit of Caravaneers and Caravan Guards will be put in place.

You have two choices in character, either Caravaneer or Caravan Guard. As such, both will have two different jobs. The Caravan Guard, is simple enough, it’s your job to protect not just the Caravaneers, but the cargo they’re hauling along, and that means the brahmin as well. So of course, Caravan Guards will be more combat oriented. But the Caravaneers aren’t as defenseless as they may seem, they too are tasked with protecting the cargo and brahmin, but they’ll also be given the job of tending to the animals, as well as doing whatever is necessary to get trade in favor of the company. The Caravaneer are the ones who will make expansion for the Helena Trading Company, really happen. They’ll be more trade and animal husbandry oriented, but again know how to hold their own.

I myself, will be the head of the trading party, in charge of all Caravaneers and Caravan Guards.

Also, as the Helena Trading Company isn’t near to the scale that the Crimson Caravan Company is, the type of weapons and armor will be limited. So when thinking of weapons and armor, think low-mid tech ranges, nothing plasma or power armor-like.

But as he got older, around the age of eight or so, his village was attacked by slavers who had tracked a hunting party of theirs, back to the village. His entire family, including his father who was one of the tribe’s councilmen, was put in cages and brought to Helena to be sold. Russell never saw his family again, and when he was sold, he was given the name Russell Kilburn by his owners, who put him to work quickly doing various odds and ends. It made him miserable, living this way, doing the menial jobs and tasks he was made to do. But where Russell excelled best, and was happiest, was when his master would go on hunting trips, which put to use Russell’s good sense of direction and tracking skills. His love for open land, was only ruined when he had to return to Helena, and that house.
But as he got older, his owners began not to need him anymore, since his master started to rarely go hunting, and didn’t want to bother supporting him either. So they decided to free him, and gave him a new chance at life, no longer a slave to anyone.
A couple years later, at age 23, working as a hunting guide out of Helena, Lenny Crane came into Russell’s life. The man was tough, but respectable, and showed respect to anyone who knew what needed to be done, and could do what they were asked without question. Through a couple hunting trips, which Russell guided, he and Crane began to make a bond, talking of all sorts of things, but mostly far off places they’d like to see. And the rest, as they say, is history. Soon enough, Russell was one of Helena Trading Company’s best caravaneers, and picked up the nickname Thorn, because he put a thorn in the side of any competing caravan company they came across, making better deals and knowing just where to go, to stay ahead of the competition.
When Lenny came to him, putting him on the job to push west, Russell “Thorn” Kilburn was ready and waiting to get out there to the big open lands, and see something new. And of course, progress and grow the company he had so invested himself into, for all these years. Russell is a loyal employee, and fair but tough leader when it calls for it, taking risks when it seems too great, and always looks to bring out the best in his caravan.

While I like this RP idea. I don't think it's a good time for the forums, we've hit somewhat of a speed bump of sorts. Leaving most RPers split between the active RPs and their free time. Sadly there's not enough players to go around. I myself have found less time to RP lately, and would normally have jumped on this.

Perhaps once news about the next Fallout game is announced we'll get a boom again but for now, I don't think it's the best time.

I'd be happy to join you, but yeah it's not a great time right now. There are RPs dying and/or stagnating left and right.

Yeah, I had noticed it was quiet around here lately. Not too different from when I left awhile back, actually. I was thinking too, of lowering the number of players, and as things maybe pick up, add newer players into the mix through various points into the story. I think I'll give it the rest of the weekend, and maybe a couple more days, so if nobody shows more interest or submits a character sheet, I'll put it to the side for now.

If both of you want to join, I have no problem with it. This won't be a fast paced RP anyway, not just because I don't want to be rushing through towns and the wasteland, in the game, but also because I myself will only have limited time to RP, so things might not progress every day.
