hardcoe in Fallout 4?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:27 pm

Do you guys think the game will feature hardcoe mode like in New Vegas?

Do you think it will contain some limited elements of it in the normal game? The games always reference the need for water, but it had never been a necessity. Do you think the game may be more survival-oriented?

Just something to consider.

Well, hopefully there will be a hardcoe Mode. I enjoyed it very much in NV.

I'll third that. There's no reason to remove such a feature.

I'd like a hardcoe mode that is more... I guess, hardcoe. Maybe a degree of hardcoe mode instead of just a single setting.

I personally like mods that consider eating/drinking/sleeping in a reasonable manner, where food will decay.

Extreme heat/cold being dangerous

No map-based fast travel, but a rather open-ended paid fast travel system (like paying a vertibird to drop you off at any POI on your map, but being responsible for returning on your own)

An advanced injury/repair system.

But I know some people don't like all that added trouble, so maybe a difficulty option should adjust more world elements than "do X% more/less damage, take X% more/less damage"

Honestly, I loved everything about hardcoe mode except for the needs mechanics. It just felt like managing a bunch of meters for the sake of managing them, it was so detached from the rest of the game. I'd love it if they had a system where Stimpaks were made less effective (or more rare), and eating/drinking provided temporary health regen. They could tie sleep into AP regen, or even XP gains.

I liked how Skyrim handled fast travel, in that there were in-game transport services and tons of world encounters to make no-fast travel worth it. Not to mention mounts; Fallout 4 could use a vehicle or even just a mutant horse or something.

I agree on fast travel.

With needs, I feel like it should be a greatly automated system to limit inventory micro-managing (because in new vegas, thats all needs really were)

I like a few of the options that the ineed mod from Skyrim offered. A UI-element to show needs that isn't a meter (color changing icons representing everything, shifting from white to orange then red)

At the same time, food and water could be set to be auto-consumed as needed. So it wasn't that you brought food to make your character eat it, but to make it feel like your character needed more things when setting out on the road than just some money and your weapons/armor.

Setting up a bedroll/tent was a manual process obviously, but it could be integrated into the sleep/wait menu, and your follower limit could be based on the number of beds you carry around. Sleeping would have the benefit of.. sleeping. But it could eat an extra hour as you see a tent/bedroll and fire appear before you lay down for the night.

If its a modular kind of hardcoe mode where I can turn on/off each effect then I be happy to use it.

Yes Bethesda should make it with hardcoe if they know what players want. I played New Vegas before FO3 and only with hardcoe, and now I use mods for more hardcoe-ness. Maybe the needs thing could be optional with the hardcoe mode. An optimal hardcoe mode should be truly hardcoe with modular features, but that will probably be left up to the modders. I always play with the timescale slowed at least 3 times as the original. That helps with needs being at a more reasonable rate.

I found hardcoe mode in New vegas was a feature that add to the game far more than any other feature because it made it feel like survival was an issue for people. I found it very hard to go to fallout 3 without hardcoe mode. So I got a mod to did it for me.

Enjoyed it in New Vegas as many others did, there would be no point in removing it. Loved having to scavenge for food and drink, it added more than just the quests. An actual sense for survival.

I enjoyed hardcoe mode too. I decided to install a mod that added sliders to alter the "needs" values. I hope the sliders will be included in the vanilla game this time.

How about "Original mode" -- a hardcoe RPG rather than "hardcoe" extra survival features over an FPS game.

Anyway... Yes, there should be a hardcoe mode. Though a bit different from New Vegas in how it works and what it affects. I'd like it to represent more comprehensive gameplay approach than just these rather small side effects like the "needs".

Other than reacting to Crimson Paladin, i would also prefer a list of option that you check before the game start, than a collection of fixed preset.

There are so much option that it would be hard to find a preset that would suit everyone.

Would be a shame to see hardcoe Mode go. It DID add that little something-something that just made the game feel bland without. All that food...

Yeah I also hope so, hardcoe mode adds a lot of immersion to the game (and with a few mods a lot of difficulty). hardcoe mode yes please :tops:

hardcoe mode needs some changes. I enjoyed aspects, but all the constant meter watching felt like Babysitter Mode. I'd like to see some Metro: Last Light hardcoe additions. Limited HUD, damage to you is much higher and so on.

I'd like to see hardcoe mode return and would love (But don't expect) a mode where you can die really quickly from damage but also enemies die really quickly like in real life so position and getting the jump on the enemy would be much more important. Also would like armor to play a more important role so if a person isn't waring a helmet a headshot will kill them (I think DE:HR might have done this).

There is nothing more anoying than harder dificulty only meaning you get weaker and enemies become bullet sponges. Albino radscorpions were awful, I ended up just avoiding them because it wasn't worth the hundreds of bullets it would take to kill.
