My hardcoe mode is broken

Post » Sat Nov 20, 2010 3:09 pm

So, I started a new character late last night, felt like running around with high melee skills killing everyone (excellent way to find missing quests btw)

I don't see much point in NOT playing hardcoe mode, so naturally I turned it on with my new character.

I seem to have a broken hardcoe mode however, my H20, Food, and Sleep bars do not move (unless I drink alcohol to make H20 go up on purpose) on their own.

My limbs still require a doctors bag to heal, and stimpacks still heal over time, also food and such is listed with its +/- stats as it should be, so this tells me hardcoe IS on (as well as it being set to on in the settings)

At first I thought it had something to do with my Special Setup (9, 6, 8, 2, 1, 7, 7), but I don't think so.

I'm worried that this will happen with every new game I start.

I haven't been able to find information relating to other experiencing this bug, so I thought I'd just ask. Anyone else encountering this?

Sleeping shouldn't heal, that's normal.

But your need bars not moving is not normal.

I don't think sleep is supposed to heal you. It certainly doesn't for me. I don't know what to say about the water and food, however. Are you a PC user with any conflicting mods, by any chance?

Sleep doesn't heal? I could have swore that it was healing my main...weird.

Anyway, no, I'm playing on 360.

One time I slept for about 24 hours and my sleep meter was stuck on 0 for a long time, as if it had gone into a negative number even though the meter still said 0. Eventually it climbed over 0 again. Perhaps something similar can happen with the water/food meters.

They can as far as I know... (for example: an NPC's Fatigue is set to -10,000 by a gas bomb)
**I haven't really looked close at how it affects the PC though.

So maybe it can go into negative? And i'm pretty sure that sleeping in owned bed heals, both HP and limbs.

Fact: In hardcoe mode sleeping does not heal; nor do stimpaks heal crippled limbs... making it harder, hence the name "hardcoe".

Interesting, but my character is level 8 and due to the fact the bars aren't moving, I haven't bothered to eat or drink anything, so nothing I did put those numbers negative. As well, I can drink Whiskey and my H20 WILL go up, but it eventually goes back to 0 due to my water canteen and then stays there again.

I believe it does heal if you sleep in your "My Bed", and I'm aware how hardcoe works, its still however broken with this new character I made.

Wait, do you have the Vault Canteen? You automatically drink from that you know, and I believe is endless, making H2O pointless. That would explain that.

I do, but H20 isn't pointless with it, it just makes it easier to maintain. The canteen alone won't stop you from getting dehydrated.

According to the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/hardcoe, only a doctor or doctor's bag can heal crippled limbs in hardcoe mode.

I've noticed that since I got the motel room in Novac, sleeping there brings my health and limbs to full condition. I haven't tried sleeping off a crippled limb--I'll be back in Novac tonight, and I think I'll do a little experiment with a frag mine. It does seem that sleeping in your own bed gives you healing as well as the Well Rested bonus. Not sure if this is intended or a glitch.

Same thing is happening to me on my new character, hopefully they are hard at work on another patch that will fix some of the more annoying glitches
