hardcoe mode... a change of name

Post » Mon Dec 28, 2009 12:22 pm

I think most people agree on that there should be a hardcoe mode, resembling of that of Fallout NV, in Skyrim. Many polls have been for that. This thread is not for that.
This thread is for its name, assuming this hardcoe mode is included in the game.
I personally think the name "hardcoe mode" doesn't suit well at all with the TES world. It felt good with the Fallout world though, because there the atmosphere was different.

Do you think it should be changed? To what, then?

I personally think the name "Survival mode" would be better.

I agree, but anything they term a "mode" is likely to be a thoroughly out-of-character feature anyway. But yeah, "survival mode" (perhaps survivor mode?) would be more appropriate.

"hardcoe mode" might scare of casual players, so maybe a simple question: "Do you want to play realistic or unrealistic?" Making the later one sound less wanted :hubbahubba:

Yeah good point Fearless Hero. Some might not think of this as a big deal, but when you would talk about your character; I would prefer not to say "Hey! My Nord is playing on hardcoe mode too!" hehe. Sounds kinda strange, in my opinion.

That would be pretty cool as well GorbadPS3. Certainly a good option as well! :P

Personally, I didn't even approve of the use of the term "hardcoe" in New Vegas. When I hear "hardcoe", I think of something from a terrible early '90s comic book, or pormography, but if the name doesn't even seem appropriate for Fallout, of course it wouldn't fit in the Elder Scrolls, so I'd go with "survival mode" or something like that, or "realism mode". Even if we ignore whether the name is appropriate for the setting, calling it "hardcoe mode" might give the wrong impression. Players who see this might think it will make the game extremely difficult, or they might end up choosing it not because they want the features it offers, but because they think that they don't qualify as "hardcoe gamers" unless they play it, of course, worrying about whether or not you're "hardcoe" enough is stupid and childish anyway, but some players will still do it.

Although this could probably go in a thread about whether or not their should be a "hardcoe mode" in the game at all, especially since we don't know that there will yet.

Survival mode sounds much better than hardcoe mode.

I would prefer it be called "Realism" or "Roleplaying".

Though I don't really care all that much, I do think "hardcoe" does not fit TES. However, I also think "Survival" doesn't fit TES. I think "Immersion Mode" or some variation of that would fit better.

I would prefer it be called "Realism"......

The problem I see with that, is you know someone's going to infer that means photo realistic graphics. Then blow their stack when they find out what it truly means. [/facetiousness, even if partially true.]

I think survivor or survival mode sounds best so far.

Don't care what its called as long as it's included. It was the one thing that actually made me get NV, although it didn't turn out as good as I was hoping, but I expect it'd be more robust if used again.

I am not fully understanding why the name matters? As long as it is in the game then that is what I care about, the name of the mode will have no effect on the game.

Oi...its like Dovakin, Dragons, Akavir, Polls, and hardcoe mode have become buzzwords around here.

people throw around hardcoe because its the most recent thing that describes a difference between gameplay (even though it wasn't that much of a change)

its why I feel alot of people are simply new blood even when they say they've played Morrowind - Oblivion and their register date is before 08-09.

Why Can't the Traditional Questionair system of TES be used huh? and through that determine how your game plays?...jeesh

I think it should be changed. Doesn't really fit a game like The Elder Scrolls IMO.

I think it could be something like "Immersion Mode" or "Realistic Mode" something like that.

You have started a new game. Please select your difficulty level. "Epic" or "N00bish."

You have selected. N00bish.

Yes it should be there.
It needs a different name... Something like "Iron Dragon Mode" (abbreviates to 'IDM' :tops:) maybe.

*Might be neat to have a one-time level scaling of the entire game (if 'Iron Dragon Mode') were chosen; and it let you import your TES4 PC.
(Depending on the time that has passed; but in a fantasy setting the PC could start the game in a prison ~their tomb, resurrected as their ancient champion, to help save Tamriel once again.)
________________________
(I heard that 'the Witcher 2' is supposed to be having "Insane" mode; where the PC gets one life ~only, and death locks the save game... though does not erase it; the theory of some being that future DLC will have you resurrected later )

Did he wink? (he does move on occasion)

*About HC mode (whatever it ends up called), I would not want it to focus too much (or at all) on dehydration, but delayed healing from potions could be good.
Maybe remove the level scaled loot, and Daedric armored bandits later in the game.

lol survival sounds like.. well, you're stuck in an arena trying to survive as long as possible agains different enemies.

Realism mode, hardcoe mode or just role-playing mode.

Or just a simple Y/N form where you can press yes or no what you want added or not ex. dehydration, food, bio, sleep etc.

I believe abraham lincoln once said
"how many legs does a dog have if you call its tail a leg?
four, because calling the tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."
I don't care, because the name doesn't change what it is

Add a realism menu with check marks for different things rather than lumping everything all together as one option, in my opinion.

I dislike the name "hardcoe" so I'd just like it to be called "realism options" or some such.

I'm not looking for a realism option, just an option that would allow them to include aspects of the game that their mythical median player might not want ~hence, them not making it the default; (instead of not including it at all).

 Any word is fine. But I hope it's a checkbox in the options so I don't have to keep it for a whole playthrough.
