1. This suggestion is for the “hardcoe Switch” and the elements involved within it. Changes done to the mode are suggested here. If you want it to return in fallout 4, here is the tread. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1214752-hardcoe-switch/
2. Please follow forum rules and stay on topic. I will try my best to edit and modify the suggestion as feedback comes in. Flaming me for making a mistake only clogs up your post and makes it hard to see the actual meat of what you are saying.
With all that said I hope you enjoy the topic and support it by posting or voting one.
Big thanks to my other topic on the return of the hardcoe switch and everyone who contributed to allow me to form this conclusion.
-=Shorthand Suggestion=-
Re-balance the weight of all items to reflect their real world counterparts. How much you can carry is limited by strength realistically. ALL money has weight, none excluded, as well as there being only favorite money is consideration to the respected territory. Sleep, Water, Food, Radiation, and crippled limbs should be enhanced. Survival skill plays larger part as well as the other skills in your hardcoe mode. If everyone supports it, make the hardcoe switch apart of the vanilla game. What you can carry is
restricted as well by weight as by size and strength.
-=Detailed Suggestion=-
This one is incredibly long suggestion I apologize, everyone had great points and they should be heard and I wanted to add a little bit myself.
- The weight system has always seemed a bit of a exaggerated. Even the strongest soldiers do not carry 250lbs around with them. Say you do, it would exhaust your energy very quickly and you would have a very small chance of injuring your leg. Ammunition as pointed out by W0NDERW0MBAT, should be a realistic amount, the average soldier carrying 200 rounds of AR ammo that could be easily doubled depending on strength and agility. You would not be carrying thousands of pencils, money, 5mm rounds, mini nukes and so on. The only thing that might augment this is power armor that works a lot like an exo suit. You might be peaking out on your own carrying a total of 75kg’s or 165lbs. All the items in the game have a real world counterpart that was already weighed by scientist and businesses, so why not use that?
- A cap would realistically weight near a gram right? Prewar money even less, and legion denarii would weigh how much the metal it was made of was. When you go to a bar you carry a little bit of money and leave the rest in banks, at home, or in a checking account. Civilized wealthy cities in the waste of the next fallout will have abandoned banks and so on that could be used. Casinos also have banks. You could also have the old timey back where the money is only as safe as the guards watching it. When you are out in the waste your pipboy counts your inventory and how much money you have but it favors caps and ignores other currency. It should either show all the currency’s or depending on what region you are in, show the popular currency. It would even be nice to see some realistic effects of money in regions such as poor people and rich. Some currencies are better than others; why not make this an element within the game.
- If you stay up for three days than your stats should start to drain. Perception goes down, strength wans, agility becomes lethargic, endurance effected worse of all becomes horribly low. Each status affects approaching death or close to it. If you cripple a limb and have no medical supplies you can bleed out over a specific time period depending on the severity of your wounds and how it would happen in the real world. All stats start to drain and the longer you go the slower and closer to death you become. If you get radiation sickness then depending on how bad it is your hair could start to fall out, lesions start to show up, strength drains, vomiting, your teeth begin to fall out, you cannot eat anymore and as you “lose weight” it becomes hard to carry things until you finally die. If you stop eating you go through starvation until you finally die draining strength and so on. Dehydration if you cannot find water. Water bottles and canteens should be able to fill up from a clean water source, if it is not clean allow a canteen with built in water filtration system like some of the ones we have now. They are expensive and rare in fallout of course. Hair and facial hair should grow at a realistic rate that can be cut and cleaned by a barber or yourself. If you are experiencing any of these effects people should take notice and have random encounters based on how you are. If you crawl into town and you are a white knight and you helped someone nearby, don’t you think they would help you? If you were “evil” would they not speed up the process because you wronged them.
- The survival skill was a fantastic idea that just didn’t get enough development time. It had problems with there not being enough fire pits, you cannot make fires, the price for the meats and so on that you might sell are negligible. It was not involved enough with the hardcoe switch. It should affect all phases of crafting and it should govern all forms of crafting. At higher levels of it should offer certain perks and so on. There is really so much to say so I will wait and see what people think about it.
- A couple of years ago when me and a few others were pushing for more realism in the game people were not comfortable with the ideal of it then. They didn’t want it forced on them. So we all suggested it be a switch and obsidian capitulated and the hardcoe mode was born. Now we think that it should become a permanent fixture in the game. Most likely should be based on the difficulty of the game adding features as the difficulty is raised.
- Fast travel should be adjustable in the hardcoe settings menu. A hardcoe menu should have been in the game anyway. Everyone is split on the subject.
- Finally what you carry should not only be restricted by size but as well by weight. You would probably be able to carry all your ammunition one main gun, side arm, and a melle weapon as a holdout, with a little space for medication, misc, and so on. You would not be able to fit a Fatman, incinerator, and AR in a backpack with all there respected ammunition's plus hundreds of misc items.
