hardcoe mode worth it?

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 10:20 pm

I already did a fast hardcoe run for the achievement but I did almost no exploring. I’m on a second hardcoe run and I appreciate the sleep, food, and water considerations but the ammo weight is killing my packrat character. I’m also avoiding fights to keep my companions alive because ED-E and Veronica are hauling a lot of my stuff and I need the pack mule service.

Find a "safehouse" to store all your stuff in. There are plenty of containers in the game where you can safely store your stuff without fear of it disappearing.

Find a weapon that does a lot of damage in a single shot, so you won't have to carry as much of it with you to stay safe. Or else just make more frequent runs back to your safehouse.

hardcoe is a different playing style that takes getting used to with ammo weight being the biggest difference and having to limit what and how much of it that I carry. I bought the hotel room in Novac to store my stuff in like I did on my first playthrough and it looks like there will be more runs to the safe house to drop stuff off or sell things to vendors. I have to make sure my “pack mules” stay alive so there will be more ranged combat this time around and it might be time to swap out Boone for Veronica.

hardcoe mode is worth it for many reasons. Because it adds a sense of realism that my character has to drink, eat, sleep, take a dump, etc.
It forces me to really be a light recon guy like I've always wanted, teaches me I don't need a butt-load of things to survive in the wasteland.
There's also a very nice exploit that causes stimpacks and super stimpacks to heal twice as much with the chemist perk, I like this exploit because I get annoyed having to press the 1 and 3 button seven times every time I'm in heated battle.
It teaches you how to prioritize weapons like, do I really need 2 automatic weapons or 2 pistols? I'll do just fine with a fat man, a sidearm, a rifle, and a melee weapon.

Meh... without weight limiting mods, hardcoe still allows you to pack a whole bunch of stuff.

With Project Nevada to change my carry weight, I found a reason for taking strong back.

It just slows things down. I used to play hardcoe then mod-based increased difficulty hardcoe but in the end it just gives additional repetitive things to do. Just more travelling back and forth places, more hauling and sorting through stuff. Less fun like shooting things, exploring and meeting cool npcs.

I mean the whole carryweight thing: aha, I'm missing the right weapon because of my low carryweight -> fast travel to safehouse, get the right gear, then fast travel back.

Or: oops I can't loot all of this because of high carryweight -> fast travel to stash, then come back and loot the rest.

Im thirsty: fast travel to goodsprings or any place with free water and drink it. Even though water is very common.

Im hungry: No you're not, there's food everywhere.

I can't play without it. I feel stupid if I run around with 4,000 rockets in my pocket and magic stimpacks that take effect instantly.

hardcoe mode is one of the most pivotal carrying forces in NV gameplay.

I have to stand with the crowd that argues that hardcoe is not worth it. They are right. It is fundamentally just chores. Having to frequently stop and drink and eat does not enhance "fun".

On the other hand, I admit ammo weight is good because it does add a relevant strategy element by limiting your loadout. I wish it had been a default feature.

Hardly. When you run out of ammo, you go get more from the stash.

I do not fast travel, and I still like the feeling of traveling light. I do not care for realism so much as immersion, I guess. Though I couldn't care less about hunger and thirst. These are just... uninteresting.

I haven't played Minecraft in weeks because Notch saw fit to had these in, either. Just a chore. Food was good enough when you healed yourself with it.

I have never played a hardcoe mode run. Sure it adds realism with your character having to sleep, eat, drink and everything has weight but it takes away from the fun. I mean its a video game not real life and i do not want to do all the menial things i have to do everyday in my real life in a video game, they are made to be fun and doing that stuff is not fun.
