Has anyone else actually WALKED up the steps to High Hrothga

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:56 pm

Hi all,

I've begun my ultimate DiD playthrough now that I've gotten all the kinks worked out of my gameplay style and also my character's appearance. Trying to do as much RP as possible, taking my time, and enjoying the sights and atmosphere, I am ascending the 7000 steps of High Hrothgar for the first time (with this new iteration of my character). I decided that the first time I do this, I will walk the steps and not run (or take my horse). As I ascend the steps, the atmosphere and music of the game is really getting to me. It is very peaceful, very serene, and allows me and my character to reflect on the adventures we've had thus far, as well as what is yet to come.

So I ask you -- has anyone else actually walked the entire 7000 steps to the monastery? How did it make you feel?

Just thought it might be fun to talk about something as simple as this in light of all the drama recently. :)

Well I walked the first 5000.

The last 2000 I backpeddled away from a frost troll screaming "Run awaaaaaaaay"

There's only 692 steps or something like that.

I walked up to the Frost Troll, hit him with Battlecry, ran 50 feet away, hid, then walked the rest of the way. Pretty long walk.

I walk up and down every time and I've done it about 12 times so far. Don't really like it, spend most the time thinking that they must've designed this with fast travel in mind. But this one time an ancient dragon jumped me on the way down and that turned out pretty epic.

I walked the steps, felt like that "stair" was overhyped, never walked up them again.
I mean, I even had a dragon (my third ever) fight me halfway through and I still didn't find the steps to be anything more than "meh".

Walked the first half, ran the second half screaming like a little kid running away from the Frost Troll. :D

You have to walk them at least once, to unlock High Hrothgar on your map.

Yeah, stairs would've been cooler. Ancient and elegantly crafted and such.

Could run or ride a horse.

I couldn't find the steps at the base, so I just jumped up. Kept sidestepping and hitting spacebar. Eventually, I found some steps higher up. Much higher.

Haha nice replies thanks. I'm just about at the Frost Troll and I am only level 7 so I WILL run away. Will backtrack though and once I circumvent him and get clear of him, I will continue walking.

Just to make sure I'm being accurate with my thread, walk means WALK, no running or riding of horses. Yeah it takes a while but it's fun! And my timescale is set to 5 so it's only taking 2-3 ingame hours.

I walked/ran the steps the first time. And regrettably used a really strong scroll to kill the Frost Troll.

One of you guys count the steps... That way we can bash the game again for not having the, "7,000 steps."

I used to walk up the steps to High Hrothgar, then I took an arrow in the knee.

OHMYGOD, THERE'S NOT 7000 STEPS, IT TOTALLY BREAKS IMMERSION. BETHESDA ARE SUCH SLOPPY CODERS THAT THEY COULDN'T EVEN WORK OUT HOW TO PUT THAT MANY STEPS ON THERE. I'M GOING TO MOUNT A CLASS ACTION FOR FRAUD AND NEGLIGENCE.

You guys aren't going to believe this!

The frost troll was nowhere to be found!! I just kept walking, nice and slow, no running... entered the crevice where he hides out, proceeded towards Emblem V... and he never appeared. So I just kept walking, none the wearier, none the worse...

Very very intredasting. :D

By the way, as I RP my Dragonborn... I wonder if she should wear thicker gloves, and helm when she climbs mountains and gets caught in blizzards. After thinking about it though, I decided since she has the Dragon blood within her, she never takes damage from these harsh conditions even without thick insulation because she's genetically built to withstand these conditions, just like the Dragons themselves.

Just a tidbit I thought I'd add to the discussion. ;)

Edit: And I plan on running down and taking my horse every time after this. I just thought it fitting and honourable to literally WALK the steps the very first time she ascended High Hrothgar this time around. All about the RP baby! All about the RP. ESPECIALLY during a "Dead is Dead" playthrough!

Yeah that frost troll decided to leap off a cliff when I saw it and well...it did not end well for it. When I say it decided to leap off I mean I fus'ed him off it. A little push goes a long way. Now if I had had Fus-ro-dah'ed it off it would have set a new flying record in Skyrim for wingless animals and monsters.

Technically I walked the entire thing. By walk I mean I stealth crawled up the damned thing. Hell on an old Dunmer knees let me tell you.
