Has anybody examined the stone on the elerscrolls.com? It has a ton of artwork and may answer some of your questions and thoughts... I think I reviled that we will see Dwemer in the game due to what looks like Anumidum the brass god. Just right of the center of the stone. We should pick out as much as we can...
