Has OS X been abandoned?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:14 am

So according to the new pre-order page on Bethesda's site and on Steam, there is no Mac version of the game. What is the deal with this? I mean we have known Linux was abandoned, but it was never announced that OS X was going to be abandoned as well. Anyone else surprised by this and hope for some sort of confirmation one way or the other? It is really upsetting when they don't even announce something like this.

it should be assumed from the get go that games wont run on the mac OS. most games dont so why would you think otherwise for RAGE. if you want to game either use bootcamp or build a gaming PC.

Because the game has been demoed multiple times on Mac OS X. This isn't some case where I was expecting a port when it was never talked about, RAGE has been a PC/MAC affair for a long time. There was no announcement of the abandonment of the OS X port so I am not sure what the deal is.

The most recent issue of Gameinformer did a preview article on RAGE and in the game description it said it would be out for: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Mac.

That article was before id was bought by Bethesda, since then there has been no word on a Mac release. John has sad to me in an email that a Mac release was coming but that was a year ago and since then no word official or otherwise.

Seeing as there is no pre-order available for Mac and no official word one way or other , I take that as a middle finger to the Mac community from id/Bethesda.

Believe it or not, but the macintosh started the PC gaming business. All of the greatest games were built for the Macintosh. There are only a few companies who understand that the Macintosh is the greatest platform to develop. But ever sense Microsoft, Bethesda, and PC people started douching things up for Apple, gaming for the proud original PC mac gamers has no longer been the same. All of the original Dooms and Quakes didn't run half as good on PC compared to Mac.

If you see in those link I have provided Macs are more than capable at running games.

Just look at this computer:

Now thats a bad ass machine!

Who cares about the price, if your someone who complain about that then you are uninformed and should probable get a Job if you want to live a productive and comfortable lifestyle. I understand some children cant afford a Mac, but for those supper PC budget pits, a mac is the only honest and green way to go.

In conclusion I believe id, an original and expert mac developer, will not let a company such as bethesda [censored] it up even more. Its really not that hard to develop for mac compared to PS3, those links prove it, its just lazy to not support it because you are greedy,
