Has everyone been screwed by Oh My Papa?

Post » Sun Jun 13, 2010 12:59 am

I've been reading a bunch of posts on here about various things and I came to the conclusion that one of the most common screw-overs in NV is that damn Oh My Papa quest, which, for me,pissed me off enuf to restart my game.I was screwed the first time because I did Melissa's quest before I worked for Regis on the OMP quest and she wasn't there in the quarry to talk to her to finish it. 2nd time,I had to reload my save 2wice because I waited to talk to Melissa but when I went to get the evidence out of Karl's locker, it either was considered stealing and The Khans shot the colour off my ass,or it was considered mine(marked as blue) and neither Papa or Regis would except it. With a speech check Karl still ended up saying something stupid and got ganked for his big mouth, but I still needed to show Papa the evidence...even though Karl admitted to being a Legion [censored]...so,4th time I completed it. Anyone else got a story?

I'd like to say I had a story, but I never even got to start that bl**dy quest. talking to everyone led me nowhere and the quest marker just pointed me in and out of the lodge. I had no other option but to stealth and kill the SOB to progress beyond it.

You know about my problems on this because you helped me. My game effectively ended my chosen path because of this quest.

The best advice I can give about this quest is DO NOT SPEAK TO PAPA KHAN before you are given the quest. I don't know about other problems that may affect this one but that's what ended it for me.

Talon, even though the quest wouldn't work, I was able to get Karl's Journal just by opening his locker and taking it with my back to the Khans. They were seated at their tables with the guard right behind me. I didn't crouch and it said loss of Karma but I have it...not that it does me any good.

I must be fortunate, because this was one of the quests I was able to complete.

Some notes:

- I did it before the NCR asked me to.
- I didn't speak to Papa Kahn until I started the mission.
- I didn't do Melissa's quest until I started OMP (the quest marker led me to Melissa hanging out by the Deathclaws.
- My speech wasn't high enough to expose Karl, so I crouched and stole his journal while hidden.

Who asked you to do the mission if not the NCR? I don't know what's going to happen if there's a patch and I may have to try that. Thanks. :)

You don't have to restart your game to do it another way to make sure she's there. Just go to the encampment and look at the ground, click on it, open your console and type "PlaceAtReticle 00e595c" and she appears and you can talk to her.

That's ok for PC owners of this delightful<(sarcasm) game, but to the poor unfortunate PS3 and Xbox users that's not an option.I only wish I had the ` button on my controller,it would help me bypass a lot of the games issues.

Yeah, I remember your issues. I just made this post because it seems like one of the MAJOR quest glitches is Oh My Papa, judging from what i've read on here. I don't remember such probs with FO3 but I'm stupid and I forget things and years of gaming is erasing old info in my brain to make room for new game data..

Well, since so many are having problems with this quest, it has to be one of the ones that will be addressed in the next patch, right? I have a save at that point so I can continue my game then. If it's going to be a couple of weeks, I'll just take a vacation in Cottonwood Cove and investigate some other things that I won't save. I don't want to be mad; I just want it to work so I can enjoy it...and so can everyone else.

i was able to complete oh my papa without any issue, i went to deal with the great khans with sweat beading down my face, but to my great relief nothing bad happen

anyway here is the steps i took first give the male drug dealer all the recipes you know (i think i only knew 2)
then get a great khan uniform(when i first met them i was vilified for some reason but they were not attacking me)
there is a dead khan body in the mountain area to the northeastish you can get a uniform there
put on the uniform then talk to the female drug dealer and do all her quests
then talk to the 2 people at the table in the main house
talk to papa explain the situation with the legion and he wont believe you
then talk to (regis?) the guy to papa right(your left when looking at papa)
tell him the same and get your quest done
drug dealers just talk to the female if you have saved the drug runner from the legion she will agree no problem
then goto the great khan encampent near all the deathclaws (if you walk up in uniform she will call you out as not being a khan but will not attack)
then go steal the journal from the legion guys room
then talk to regis again then either make the legion guy blurt out something stupid or show papa the journal
they will chase the legion guy out of town

these are the exact steps i took to complete this quest i hope this helps some if not all of you get to the ending you want (i am currently in the legion encampment right now for my first ending oh got this guy is tough AP rounds are apparently only useful against nobodies)

I think the problem with this quest is if you do something that before it that messes with a certain sequence it goes buggy. I was able to complete it only by going to The fort and sneaking into ceasars tent and basically burning all my stealthboys to get it, of course since my game was already bugged I decided to kill everyone their, which is a real challenge but thankfully with stealthboy I was able to grenade a few at a time and then waste another stealthboy.

But its this log in ceasars tent that will win karl over even tho the diary should have been just as accepted.

But I since put FOV on the backburner because I am almost done and the only thing hoiding me back is a glitched companion who will not trigger his final speech and so cant complete his side quest. Cides I am very tired of backtracking trying to find companions or having them just stand there during combat.

No one has to ask you to do the mission you can just show up and try to break the alliance.

I was just exploring the western side of the wasteland, stumbled into their territory, and learned what was going on by talking to people. Since I was loyal to the NCR, I thought it would be in my interest to negotiate on behalf of them, so I took the initiative. I was able to do the quest without any major roadblocks, so maybe it works better if you don't wait for someone to order you to do it.

Melissa was nowhere to be found and for some reason since I took Karl's journal early, the quest was saying the Khans were leaving the area rather than joining up with Caesar or NCR. I had to kill Papa just to get the result I was looking for....

melissa is right near quarry junction (the area with all the Deathclaws)
you have 2 options to reach her

Option 1: head over the the makeshift Khan encampment (just follow your map as directly at possible, you will see a few cazadors then what loks like a ransacked small camp site)
from here climb up the mountain kill a couple deathclaws and young deathclaws then walk into quarry junctions back door and there you will find melissa (it took me awhile to actually get to her)

Option 2:go to the mining town(the one where they warn you about the death claws if you have been if you have already been here great if not you have to walk(if memory serves correctly its a little bit north west of black mountain) (if this is your first time here a guy in the road will stop you and explain about deathclaws, you can also get a quest from him and another quest inside for a deathclaw egg
anyway moving on head slightly north from this town and then go west into the dusty area filled with many deathclaws.
to get to melissa from this path you will have to go through a mother deathclaw and an alpha male deathclaw.

hope this helps you all find melissa gl

I can find Melissa in Quarry Junction and I can speak with Chomps in Sloan but the speech options do not come up. I'm still in a holding pattern waiting for a patch. Hopefully I won't be waiting too much longer. I hope I get my excitement back for the game...it's just gone right now and I was so excited to get it.

Oh. I know. Melissa WAS there before I did that drug trade thing for her. Then she vanished. I actually watched her walk away and then disappear as she walked towards a ledge. She doesn't reappear when you need her for "Oh My papa."

My issue is that when I got the leagon dude was killed after out.speaking him and the.khans killing him, I now have to go to the fort.for.proof that the Oregon was go.na turn on them and I can't get into the tent without.getting killed by the guard.outside.it. he is blue untill I walk by him then he attacks me. If I try to run into the tent everyone turns red and kills me. I might also add my position. Is neutral at the.fort. I also seem to have to ware leagon armour to even get to the.boat ride if I take.it.off everyone turns.red, again I am neutral............. sry bout any typos or periods misplaced im on my cell and it does that alot...
