Has New Vegas been the success as Fallout 3?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:46 am

Looking at the sales, yah I say it is succesfull.

Heck even the old fans are actually praising it(while the new base is screaming blood & murder LOL) and when you'll ever see the developer trying to succesfully return to the roots. Sorta? :goodjob:

Fallout 3 story > New Vegas story
Fallout 3 plot > New Vegas plot
Fallout 3 characters > New Vegas characters (very close)
Fallout 3 gameplay < New Vegas gameplay
Fallout 3 character development < New Vegas character development
Fallout 3 sandbox > New Vegas sandbox
Fallout 3 setting > New Vegas setting
Fallout 3 replay value < New Vegas replay value
Fallout 3 graphics < New Vegas graphics
Fallout 3 weapons < New Vegas weapons
Fallout 3 armor/headgear < New Vegas armor/headgear
Fallout 3 perks < New Vegas perks

So, if I am counting right, NV wins overall?
Don't agree with the plot, story and characters though. Chief Hanlon ftw.

What the hell, Rose of Sharon Cassidy ftw! :fallout:

Fallout 3's story/plot had a more epic feel to it and it was deeper and more emotional, but that's ok because New Vegas is supposed to be just a "side story" and look how good it is. Imagine if Obsidian was to do the main story (or whatever you call it) for the next game.

I didn't feel anything in Fallout 3s story, mostly because it WASNT deep, it was presented to you and told you that it was sad, not that it really was sad, which it wasn't, because they didnt explain it to you.

I am wondering if New Vegas has been a great success as Fallout 3?

It has, and it still is.

I am pretty sure you have your own definition of "epic". Because honestly, Optimus Prime and black'n'white factions certainly doesn't help it (nor Liam Neeson could save it).
For me it was a cheap rehash of the old Fallouts with some forced melodrama added to it, so it can look "deep".

But that's just my opinion.

However, Beth *had* some neat ideas, so why don't have Chris Avellone, Sawyer(and others) cooperating with Beth on FO4? Or at least the writers.

Really...? I for one found most if not all of the characters of Fallout 3 to be bland and forgettable. Most had either little to no personality or were cartoon characters with silly and exaggerated personalities that defined everything about them, very few had any real story to them, less had any real depth.

Smert summed up my feelings on the Fallout 3 storyline.

It has, and it still is.

Marketwise I doubt it. It's been out just barely a year, and already new copies 20 dollars. New Vegas is more of a niche game from what I've seen.

When i see a game go from 60 dollars to 20 or even 12 it says something about that game.(within a year or not even)

New Vegas was financially a success and that cannot be argued against.

Not really, that shows what the majority say. Apart from it freezing if I play every 4 hours+ continuously, I've not had many problems. I enjoy it still.

Rockstar has kept RDR at a standing high price still with it being out for over a year. That says something. But yet again rockstar always does that. RDR is a good game and it can stand its holding at that limit.

FNV is more like a gigantic DLC.

FO NV's main competition was Mass Effect 2 and ME2 I bought for $20 about a month after it was released... Games use DRM nowadays and because of that more units will sell (since it is harder to resell the game) and they can afford to lower the price to take advantage of the customers who would have bought it used.

EDIT: ME2, Bioshock 2, Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, and more I all bought for around $20 shortly after release (PC version, some still sell for 50-60 on consoles) and many more games that I have not purchased did the same. The latest trend in game prices for the PC makes me think that consoles are way more expensive to own since I saved about $100 this year alone by buying PC games instead of console.

Niche games rarely sell http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/fallout-new-vegas/news/fallout-new-vegas-pot-now-has-5-million-gamers/a-20101108152645271000/g-2009050816317271026 in well less than a year, with opening week sales surpassing a AAA predecessor. Unless I'm wrong and niche titles actually do sell that much these days.

And Ace, what does the pricedrop tell you about New Vegas, exactly?

New Vegas sold over 5 million copies? That is without a doubt a huge financial success.

You didnt even like Elder Lyons or Sentinel Lyons? What about Pop? Dr. Li? Knight Captain Gallows (did you get the pot?)? Paladin Vargas? Knight Captain Colvin? Paladin Glade? Paladin Kodiak? Knight Captain Dusk? Protector Casdin? President Eden? Colonel Autumn? They're all forgettable?

Yea, you got a point. Im a Mass Effect player and I noticed that both game's prices dropped much quicker than New Vegas' and it's an extremely successful series.

I don't even remember half of those people, and I've played Fallout 3 for hundreds of hours.

None of these characters felt real to me, they seemed more like robots going about their business than actual people. Their writing was bland and soulless, and at the end of the day I didn't care about any of them. Elder Lyons and James had the most potential out of these particular characters, unfortunately that potential seemed wasted to me.

Knight Captain Gallows (did you get the pot?)? Paladin Vargas? Knight Captain Colvin? Paladin Glade? Paladin Kodiak? Knight Captain Dusk?

The names sound familiar, but I don't remember who any of these characters are.

President Eden? Colonel Autumn?

President Eden was probably the most memorable character in Fallout 3, largely because of Malcolm McDowell's acting. I don't think Eden really holds a candle to any of the major characters of New Vegas, though. Characters like Mr. House, Caesar, Vulpes Inculta, Lanius, Dog/God, Christine, Dean Domino, Joshua Graham etc were more intriguing and more memorable than Eden and Autumn (or any of Fallout 3's characters for that matter) in my honest opinion.
