Has New Vegas been the success as Fallout 3?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:29 pm

None of these characters felt real to me, they seemed more like robots going about their business than actual people. Their writing was bland and soulless, and at the end of the day I didn't care about any of them. Elder Lyons and James had the most potential out of these particular characters, unfortunately that potential seemed wasted to me.

The names sound familiar, but I don't remember who any of these characters are.

President Eden was probably the most memorable character in Fallout 3, largely because of Malcolm McDowell's acting. I don't think Eden really holds a candle to any of the major characters of New Vegas, though. Characters like Mr. House, Caesar, Vulpes Inculta, Lanius, Dog/God, Christine, Dean Domino, Joshua Graham etc were more intriguing and more memorable than Eden and Autumn (or any of Fallout 3's characters for that matter) in my honest opinion.

I forfit my argument. You're right. Those characters are more developed and thought through now that I think about it more.

Fallout New Vegas characters > Fallout 3 characters

Eh, on the other hand, the F3 characters actually served their purpose. Not a bad thing I supppose.

Since when price drop is relevant to a product quality?

Its really a shame that Eden didn't have more dialogue, McDowell is an amazing voice actor. Liam Neeson was good, but I found his acting to be a little bland, probably due to writing more than voice acting though.

Missed some chances for "A Clockwork Orange" references too.

Better then Fallout 3 :foodndrink:

Do you mean it sold better THAN Fallout 3 or it was a better game than Fallout 3?

I don't think either is correct, but just wondering.

Right now I would say that New Vegas had a better start then Fallout 3 but the bugs hurt it long term. With the patches New Vegas has been slowly recovering and once they get the Ultimate Edition out then New Vegas will be back to normal and should be a great game that is equal and in certain areas better then FO3.

Success wise it's slow but it should turn out ok, I just hope this doesn't hurt Fallout 4 in the long run, that's my bigger concern.

In my opinion? Fallout New Vegas is the better game by far.

Though I believe Fallout 3 was a more immediate commercial success, but that is just speculation.

I'd explain why I feel like Fallout New Vegas is a better game, but it seems my argument has been done for me :celebration:

You know what's deppressing is seeing all of your friends on Xbox Live playing either COD Black Ops or Halo Reach and none of them ever playing Fallout. And if you look at their list of games you may find a few people with achievements for Fallout 3 but that's about it. Dude, every single gamer on my friends list (like 40+ people) has COD Black Ops and Halo Reach. Maybe 2 people at the most have New Vegas. I have never known of such overrated garbage as the Call of Duty series. I could easily spend the rest of the night ripping that game.

my gamer tag is "fearthegrim" and i have NV but i have about 60 friends and only about 5 of them have NV and the rest, well guess what they got

Yes, it's very sad. One night I removed everyone who was playing COD at the time from my friends list. I was like "goodbye," "beat it," "see ya", " Oh, you too? Get the fu@k outta here."

Um, NV has far more FPS abilities and optimizations, than FO3 ever had. Iron sights, better freehand accuracy, and you can play the whole game effectively as an FPS without ever using VATS- something pretty tough to do in 3. You may argue that NV has better RPG elements than 3, but the FPS claim wont' wash.

I think people can get technical with some of the improvements that were made in FONV...dialog, companions, etc. But FONV is a glitch fest and to me it feels unfinished. I don't see how it could make GOTY. I personally don't feel like it is better than FO3. Sure FONV is popular with FO 1 and 2 fans, but that probably doesn't factor in to whether or not the game will get GOTY. Do sales even factor in when it comes to determining GOTY? I don't know, but it wouldn't seem right to me. It should be based on the overall quality of the game and with all those glitches I just don't see it happening.

Personally, I think Red Dead Redemption will get GOTY.

As has been said, bugs kept this game from getting to where it TRULY needed to go. The gameplay is great and the story is pretty enthralling. Word of mouth killed this game I think.

Fonv owes a lot to fo3 1st fo3 made a big fanbase of potential buyers for fonv and if it didn't i can bet there would of atleast been a third less sales as people would just think "ohh another generic fps" 2 It borrows almost everything from fo3 and makes a couple panzy efforts with no real risk to try improve on fo3 in a technical sense 3 If say fo3 had never existed and fonv had came out i can guarantee a lot of peeps would of chucked fonv with all the bugs it had .But because fo3 had came out they new that it would of been atleast a decent game .And obsidian is infamouse for bugs they deserve to have lower sales you cant sell a faulty product .What if i bought a car and it randomly stalled (or invisible walls ) or just didn't work then i would have every right not to buy it or have a lower opinion of it .

As FO3 owes the first games for copying the whole plots of FO1/2, so without the first two FO3 wouldn't exist?
You are nitpicking and only trolling, also your argument doesn't make a slight sense. :/

FO3 had shipped 4.7 million copies on his launch, while NV has 5.0 million, both selled like hot cakes.

And maybe I'm the luckiest person in the world, because I don't have 1/10th the problems people complained.
I'm on a PC if that matters.
