Has New Vegas been the success as Fallout 3?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:12 pm

Hey all, I am wondering if New Vegas has been a great success as Fallout 3? The reason I ask is I waited over 9 months for Fallout 3 to drop in price to pick it up and it never happened until the GotY edtion came out. So walking in 3 different stores I was shocked to see that New Vegas has already dropped in price to the $35 range so that got me thinking, was it really as successful as Fallout 3 since it took forever (a year) before the price finally dropped for it.

I love the game, I love both games but just wondering how NV held up to F3.

Yeah it was huge. Can’t remember how much it sold in the first 24 hours. I suppose they dropped the price to compete with other game releases and to increase sales.
But there won’t be GOTY I am sure there will be something else with all the DLC on it. (I am waiting for that)

With the huge release of Black-Ops that I guess hurt them a bit the prices were dropped.

There will definitely be a Game of the Year edition. Whether or not it will actually be called "Fallout: New Vegas Game of the Year Edition" is yet to be known.

When. No One has named NV GOTY.

But there will be a special Edition of some sort

To me F03 was a lot better than NV (never played the originals) F03 had great atmosphere great characters, great music, cool weapons(rock-it launcher) and a great story. There were tons of places to explore several things to do. F03 was the best game I have ever had and not to mention the best post apocalyptic game.
NV to me was a wild west type game rather than a post apocalyptic game, the game itself was very boring/empty and mainly focused on the story which gets very boring once you hear the story

It's actually $17.99 now at Gamestop. :sadvaultboy:

If you read the reviews, most of them say the same thing. The main reason New Vegas was not as successful as Fallout 3 is because of all the bugs that made the game literally unplayable. It got a lot of bad press for that and only that. Just about all the reviews said everything else about the game is excellent.

I felt Fallout 3 was personally inferior to NV, as it detracted from the Fallout atmosphere which characterized the first two games (more retro-futuristic rather than horror), but that's just my opinion.

And yes, to the OP, New Vegas is a success. The current patches have generally fixed most of the errors (for those that haven't been fixed, mods are your best friend) and otherwise the game is solid and great. The bugs were what killed the early reviews.

That depends very much on who you ask. In my eyes no, but on a purely financial level I have no idea.

The game was a success financially. I think the OP is simply asking if the price drops indicate that the game was shoddy - which it wasn't. It was a bit unpolished and now it's generally all smoothed out (with the exception of several game-breaking bugs - thank god mods exist on PC).

Theres a group that chooses the game of the year? I thought it was just something publishers used to milk more money out of a game.

Games that slap the GOTY moniker on them have actually been awarded GOTY. It's an incentive for developers or publishers to make the games good - gives them an excuse to re-release the games with the GOTY label. Of course, many companies use false advertising to win GOTY, but that's besides the point. F:NV will not get a GOTY like F3 did unless F:NV actually wins GOTY.

Damn, thought I found an article saying NV had superior sales, but it was an estimate made before it's release.

Everything else I'm reading makes it sound like NV and FO3 have similar sales numbers.

It isn t quite as awesome to me, but I helped it by buying it brand new 2 times. Its all in the sales numbers. With fo3 having pretty large sales numbers (from what Ive seen) you would think fo nv would get big sales as well.

I can never find good info on overall sales. Only the first few weeks......

fo nv may have been made with a lower budget than fo3, and had a lower amount of sales needed. There for they would drop the price (if they were nice) Either that or it stopped selling so good and they dropped the price some.

I believe the more fo that are made the more they will sell. I see fo gaining more fans than it could lose. I ve turned 5 or 6 people onto fo at least. They all liked or loved it..... All I turned onto fo3 bought fo nv. 2 said they don t like it as much, but that doesn t matter because the sale was already recorded 1 of the 2 liked it more until all the endings.

To me fo nv is a success, but not as great of one as fo3.

If your game does not win any GOTY awards it would be silly to make a GOTY edition. Fo3 called it that becase it won 3 GOTY awards at shows before it was released, and several more while it was out. Fo3 was a multiple GOTY winner.

Fo nv IDK if it has or will win any. It destroys all online shooters of the time, but I don t play many games so I m not a real good judge. To me fo nv is the best overall game I have played in 2010 or 2011 besides fo3 and cod 3 on line, but fo3 and cod 3 do not count because they were made in like 08 and 06 respectively.

I ve only played
cod bo
nba 2k 11
socom 4
brink
la noire
GT 4 or 5??
That would run against it for game of the year. Most are not in the same game class, but fo nv is better than those games over all. IMO

NBA 2k11 and la noire are close.

You know what's deppressing is seeing all of your friends on Xbox Live playing either COD Black Ops or Halo Reach and none of them ever playing Fallout. And if you look at their list of games you may find a few people with achievements for Fallout 3 but that's about it. Dude, every single gamer on my friends list (like 40+ people) has COD Black Ops and Halo Reach. Maybe 2 people at the most have New Vegas. I have never known of such overrated garbage as the Call of Duty series. I could easily spend the rest of the night ripping that game.

Yes several smaller review sites have just google it the rule seems to be as long as someone calls it GOTY they'll use that title, its happened for as long as I can remember.

I agree that cod has destroyed its self, but the on line clan matches and groups of friends destroying people in pub matches do still have a lure to it.

I like on line shooters because of interaction, clans, strategies for clans, competition. Those are the strong points of all well made on line shooters. Though I still think fo nv is better than any new shooters. Now old on line shooters are better

I play shooters steady. Im in a clan called MBB (Merciless Bad Bloods). Im on Crysis 2, Aliens vs Predator, Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam and I've got Rage pre ordered. It's just COD that I reject. Sh!t puts me in a coma when ive played it and it overshadows superior games. Like right now, I just turned on my Xbox and it's everywhere you look. Everything is COD and Halo Reach. Whatever man. Moreover, it's just another propaganda game probobly influenced by the Pentagon. Any careful reader of history knows this. The game's story retells US government lies that were exposed a long time ago. But the average gamer doesnt know that what they're looking at is not an accurate narrative of post second World War history.

lol the cod bo story line? No one really believes that crap.
I play them only for on line. cod has destroyed its self because it changed from a game you had to think in to be good on line to the meri go round of michael bay explosions.

I really liked the replay system they put in cod bo. That was a fun added feature. Great for a overhead view of a match to understand how it all went wrong for a team. It was also good for recording slapping randoms in pub matches lol. I dug the whole replay deal...
Over all infinity wards cod is better than treharchs now a days, but they are both pretty bad compared to the online shooters root games. OT

I'm with this guy, but yah I think fallout NV wasn't as successful as Fallout 3 because the bad cred it got from bugs at the start, but Fo3 always had the better replay ability in my opinion, sure NV had 4 endings but there all kinda doing the same thing.
