Has sneak been nerfed?

Yep, PC. Don't want to use any console commands though, want to keep this save file completely stock. I will probably spawn 10 dragons and 100 thalmor when I'm done with this playthrough and see them fight it out.

You don't have to do anything to your save file — just load the game, use the console command to perform a few tests, and then quit without saving. You might get a few auto-saves, but they'll be written over.

Will do, I'll report back in 5.

no luck. I did load an earlier save though, and it was easy on that.

Well, if it's not any of your gear, stats, perks, or a follower, then I don't have a clue. All I can think of is that maybe having 5/5 +Sneak% perks in combination with a very high Sneak skill may be "wrapping around" the value, even without +Sneak% gear... now I'm kinda worried about what might happen in my own game.

With around 70 sneak plus a couple of bonuses, I had a lot of trouble sneaking outdoors recently. People would spot me or "hear something" way too often. This was also at night too.

This.

Sneak seems to be highly effective indoors. As soon as you step outside, however, enemies effective line of sight seems to triple. I can hunker down and waddle by ten feet in front of an enemy inside a lit house and maybe he'll be all, "Huh?" and come over to investigate. Outside, in the middle of the night, enemies will spot me from fifty feet away while I inch around a corner. Even if they are doing other stuff, like chopping wood or something.

This was something that was going on prior to the latest patch for me, so it's nothing really new. Not sure if what you're experiencing is related.

Crouch?

Edit:
All jokes aside. it's probably the patch. I'm playing on the PS3, on 1.1 and sneaking works fine for me. Indoors and out.

Sounds like when you hit lvl 32 the world leveled up as well.

Unless their awareless is also stepped up, I don't see how this would affect detection. I think only combat stats are levelled with enemies, and the "perception" ( a la fallout 3) is a fixed stat.

* The sneak skill can break at 100 - causing everything to see you at any distance. You can still register sneak attacks, even while detected though.

Not sure if this is isolated to PC, across the board or relevant only to certain patches.

Yeah, but he tried reducing his Sneak skill with the console and nothing changed. Maybe SetAV isn't good enough, or whatever breaks is broken once you hit 100 regardless of further changes?

Anyway, that's a pretty awful bug.

THIS. Stealth skill is broken once it reaches level 100. As for sneaking outdoors, it works well at night and during midsts but it's useless on a bright sunny day. It's possible to use rocks, trees and shadows to gain some advantage, though. For example, when I see a wild animal in the distance, I crouch and reach the nearest rock from where I try to get a cheap stealth shot with the bow. It works 90% of the time.
