It is a problem when these changes are made because of console players.
When one platform dictates game design for the other, for better or for worst, that is a problem. It's very telling that the most popular Skyrim mod by a landslide is a UI mod.

And what if it wasn't "because console players"? What if they decided that it looked [censored] stupid to stand there and wait for hours? PC elitist [censored] blow
Luckily I'm sure you'll get a mod to change it so that you can stand and wait all day lol
Then it would be still a stupid decision.
It's not "elitist" to be disappointed in limitations being imposed on a game when you don't play on the platform that causes the limitation.
IF the button was removed due to a limit on the number of buttons on a controller then that does svck for people that play on mouse and keyboard.
The reverse is also true:
What if they removed the ability for the joysticks to change your walking speed between walk and run based on how far you move it because no such functionality exists on a keyboard and mouse. That too would svck, and no amount of "console elitist" claptrap would make it not svck.
Sure that would svck, but you're just assuming that is the reason it was changed. They've changed so much about the game that you could make up a negative reason for every change if you want to be pessimistic about it. VATs was changed to real time to faovr the CoD players, or they just thought it played better and made more sense. You can find any reason to place blame on one thing or another. But it just makes you sound like an elitist [censored] to just blame consoles without any real cause for reason
The only person drawing lines in the sand and picking sides here is you. All I see is speculation. In fact the person that even hinted that it might be a console related issue said "precious few" buttons and "waste on a wait function" which sounds like a console gamer to me agreeing with the change.
You started the insulting.
I don't think the furniture thing is due to PC or console players. Were that the case, they'd just make it an option on the Pip-Boy so both can access the Wait function the same way. If it's true, then it's most likely due to immersion and also to make it more difficult to wait in areas where enemies can just stroll through. Also, this makes it harder to "game" the system by initiating a quest that has a timed element that may take a few in-game days to complete, then waiting the whole time. It is a bit weird to have the ability to stand in a random spot on the map for hours and hours just for the heck of it. Some will miss it, but eh. There are plenty of games - most, in fact - with no Wait system at all, in which you just have to keep playing until whatever you're waiting for comes to pass. At least with the furniture requirement, they've opted for a middle ground.
A good point for sure
Could have also been implemented in the pause menu since that is essentially what it was before anyway. If it were due to the lack of console controller buttons, they would have implemented it in another way instead of just axing the "stand and wait for hours" feature.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas the wait button on my ps3 is the select button.
Don't know what it will be on the ps4 since there has not been a Bethesda game on the ps4 to my knowledge.
Select button presumably becomes Toggle POV, since they had to move that off one of the shoulder buttons to make room for Bash/Grenade.
That button has become "share" so that I can share screens and vids if I want to..(15 minutes) We now have a center "screen" that is sometimes used for inventory or other things.
I do wait. It will be annoying if I can't do so.. If wait is gone maybe sleep is also gone. They were the same button.
Sleep wasn't a button on it's own. It was used when you point at a bed and hit activate to sleep. Also, wait is still in. You just have to do it while sitting down on furniture
So standing around for 24hours is weird, but sitting in a chair in the middle of the wasteland for 24h is not? And who says i stand for 24h? I always imagined my character would sit down on the ground. Why must it be furniture? That's weird, someone living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland cannot sit on the ground.
This has nothing to do with immersion. If this was true it would only be a nuisance, but Bethesda has been getting rid of silly nuisances like weapon and armor degredation. Why would they then turn around and implement a fresh one?
The explaination that it would be for consoles makes far more sense. Limited number of buttons available, and they need to fit in a couple new features such as quick melee, quick grenade and hold breath. And it's great that they do that for console players, but for me such a change would be nothing but a nuisance. You just miss a shops opening hours, or having to do something at a specific time, that Wait function has always gotten plenty of use. Now it's become a bothersome exercise to "find the nearest chair", which either means going around looking for something or an oddly large number of furniture strewn across the wasteland.
So i'm gona go ahead and hope that, atleast for pc, we can just Wait anywhere just like we always could. I am well aware it will be something that's probably one of the first things that'll get modded. But as great as mods are, it's not an excuse for game design to just always point to the good samaritan modder to fix it. Skyrim's UI got fixed by mods, but that doesn't excuse the fact it was a really bad UI.
As already mentioned, if it were a console controller button limitation they'd have just implemented it into the pip boy or pause menu. Nice try though LOL
At least it will be an easy mod for someone to whip up
You know it is possible to sit on the floor, right?
It's also possible to sleep on the floor but we could never do that huh
It is possible for NPC's to sit on the floor.
you guys seriously arguing about a Wait mechanic that still in the game, but u need to be sit down to just use it. right??? u guys realize for a more immersive point of view make more sense and from the other point of view doesn't meter.
I really can't see the wait function going away. Its a nice little tool to help sort out small problems you may have, like Dogmeat getting separated from you. A quick one hour wait and he'll teleport right back to you and his pathing will be sorted out fine.
Unless Bethesda has managed to make that a complete non-issue, with the companions and NPCs being able to path across what would be a sheer nightmare of a world for any videogame AI to try and pathfind around. Which I just don't see happening even with all of the time and golden piles of money in the world.
Huh, I never tried that, I guess I missed the part where the game shows that you've sat down while waiting. But I do find your imagination to be adorable, never change Psychotrip.
