Has there EVER been a game better than FO3?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:57 am

Fallout 3 is the best game I have ever played and I have never even played a MODED version. It immerses you into the world and gives you the epic lonely felling now other game has given me before or since. And yes awards don't make something good lack of awards don't make something bad But the massive amount of accolades this game has received speaks to the awesomeness of the game I am glad Bethesda will be taking over the development of the next Fallout game.

*shudders* Fallout's stuck as a spin-off of TES.

Not hardly; it's by the same company, sure, but it's a full-fledged partner series to TES if it's anything. Hell, since Oblivion we've seen 2 Fallout games and not a single TES game.

Can we get back to topic please, if you want a Bash fest, start a new Topic, all right....

Exactly.
To every original fan: If you original fans hate the engine Bethesda uses or the way they make their rpg they make then don't [censored] play them. Geez just go play mass effect or dragon age and stop your constant hating. Cause weather you like it or not Bethesda owns fallout and aren't going to change it just cause 10 maybe 15 orginal fans hate it..

It's a big statement to claim any game is the best game ever not sure I could agree, but for me it's certainly my favourite game and probably the game I've put the most hrs into :)

Even though the OP is clearly an X-Bot, I'll agree with him that Metal Gear Solid 4* was no better (or worse) than Fallout 3. But as to whether I can think of a better game than Fallout 3...I can think of better Fallout games than Fallout 3.

* I assume MGS4 was their PS3 GOTY.

We love the old games. We really do. We love turn-based. But we knew that eventually Fallout was going to move on to different styles of combat. Maybe have turn-based for awhile, but not forever. Fallout: Tactics was viewed as "The Future" of Fallout with three different combat styles. Turn-based, Continious, and squad-turn based. It was evolutionary.

We don't hate the engine. We just don't like the way that it was treated exactly like the Elder Scrolls, and not like Fallout.

That's why we like New Vegas.

It was Fallout. Not the Elder Scrolls.

Fallout 2, has been 11 years and I still play it.

Fallout 3, I stopped playing a year after it's release because I got tired of it's limitations as a roleplaying game.
Still got 800+ hours from it so it wasn't a bad game on it's own merits but I'm still not even slightly tired of Fallout 2 and it's been 11 years.
Fallout 3 wasn't able to top that at all.

And uhm.. Chrono Trigger, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, Planescape, Baldurs Gate, Alpha Protocol, Icewind Dale.
I'd say there are tons of games better than FO3. :P

I think that Fallout New Vegas tops FO3 in every way except for exploration. But thats just me :D

+1

I enjoyed FO3 but I always felt out of place in the world, there was something not quiet Fallout-ish with it. New Vegas, for me, was much more closer to the original Fallout spirit and is why I enjoyed it more.

I hear this complaint a lot, but after playing NV I honestly don't see there really being a huge difference in the way the two games were executed.

Please tell if you honestly think there is a game better than FO3 ..... and please note after my disappointment with FO:NV I surprised myself and cast ALL of my GotY votes for Reach ... I KNOW this is a minority opinion but I actually even like Reach better than ME2 which should have been a mortal-lock for EVERY GotY after the epic FAIL of FO:NV.
I'm curious, can you tell me why you liked FO3 so much, yet disliked New Vegas?

I really love FO3 and NV both. They both have their upsides and downsides. I find New Vegas more 'cozy' (for lack of a better word) than FO3, but FO3's dirty and grimmy atmosphere also has its charm. In general I like the NV characters better (Mr House, Benny, Vulpes, Veronica, Raul, Lily, Yes Man for example) than the FO3 characters (with the exception of James, Butch and Desmond), and I prefer the faction-choices you get to make in New Vegas over the forced Brotherhood-line in FO3.

The non-Fallout games which in my opinion come close to FO3 and NV's quality are InFamous, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Kingdom Hearts II.

Ok, I have been patient and patient, asked the bashing to stop, and well, now i am unloading!!! :swear:

I am [censored] sick and tired of hearing people bashing this game because of this [censored] reason, or that [censored] reason, It is a [censored] copy of TES, it is not related to [censored] Fallout because of it's not TB, it's a FPS, it's on the EAST COAST, it's done by BETHESDA, it did not have FACTIONS, it was like a COMIC BOOK, the story is LINEAR, you name it, someone has nitpicked the [censored] out of it like [censored] vultures picking a carcass clean!

I am ASHAMED of being a Fan of this series right now, not becuase i have stated my opinion on several forums aready expressing what i liked and do not like about different games, we are all entitled to our opinions, and i will sooner leave the Forums or report myself than deny anyone their opinions. Why i am ashamed is there are Fans, devoted and who care about the series as much as i do, who cannot simply respect other peoples opinions, they cannot respect the games that are out there, that people have worked hard and long hours, spent devoted time away from families they care for and love, to work on games we love to play. And what do we do, we hurt THEM the most, we spit in THEIR faces every time we say this game svcks or that game svcks. Granted it is us, the fans that determine if a game is a success or a flop, but do we need to pick at every little feature? As fans, regardless of the game or it's success or failure, we should RESPECT and simply ENJOY what is there. If it was not for the minds who turned the precursor of Fallout into Fallout (for the Life of me i cannot remember the name of the game) we would not have this series. If it was not because of Bethesda buying the series, we would not have FO3 or FO:NV, it would be a dead series. We need to respect what we were given people, not be like spoiled children complaining about how we do not like what we were given.

We should all be ashamed for our constant bashing and nitpicking, but i know there will be those out there who think i am crazy and nitpick me for saying this. You are entitled to do so, but i will not reply. I have been a Devoted Fan since FO, and i will be till the series ends (hopefully never), and i want to see us be a strong community for years to come, unified and strong, not tearing ourselves apart like Hyenas over a carcass. I know this post will be forgotten, but i had to say it at least once, but i hope someone at least learns something from this.

As a last request before i post this, Moderator, please close this thread, i know it will get buried, but every thread has to.

Paladin John, this is a forum, yes I wish people would respect peoples opinions but you get upset when someone gives reason for why they don't like Fallout 3. You call it bashing. If everyone agreed and liked everything about every fallout game then this would not be a forum. It would just be a bunch of people agreeing. People have real reason why they don't like Fallout 3 and it not being turned based is not a major reason. Major reasons is the games very proor writing. Many missing elements from the originals. The game is to black and white and full of plot whole and the setting is wrong. As a Fallout Fan one should look at all the games and not just FO3 vs New Vegas, IMO.

Didn't you know? Skyrim will be Fallout with swords magic.

Fixed, there are swords in Fallout.
Wakizashis are used by the Yakuza in Fallout 2. The Chinese Officer's Sword used by the PLA Remnants in Fallout 3. The Bumper Sword (Nightkin), the Machete and Machete Gladius (Caesar's Legion) in New Vegas.

The never-ending game-breaking crashes aside, FO:NV seemd very shallow compared to FO3 to me. The story offered so much potentential in the begining but devolved into boredom. The ending was beyond anti-climatic, compared to the awesome (in my opinion -I KNOW most hated it) and shocking ending in FO3, The music was horrible save Sinatra. The humor was played to masses instead of wry and dry in FO3.

FO:NV was Lindsey Lohan. FO3 was Motzart.

I love you, man!

Seriously, I LOVE TES, Oblivion was my 1st EVER Xbox game and it immediately converted me from a JRPG fan to WRPG FOREVER! But I love FO3 way more than even Oblivion..... And way, WAY more than Morrowind.

And to the Old-timers, I've tried to Play FO1 & FO2 but they are way too boring and terrible - remind me of the latest and worstest FF in their heinous boredom.

I love all Fallout games, I just like FO3 the most. ;)

To be honest, I never really got into Dragon Age. The characters were amazingly in-depth and very well done, but the world and the combat just didn't do it for me. Having to run around a foot-tall rock instead of jumping over it or being unable to wade a foot-wide river really killed the game for me; FO3 and NV spoiled me in that regard, I suppose. Plus, the combat just felt dry.

ME2 perhaps. spent numerous hours with different class builds... something has always pulled me back to Fallout though. FO3's grimy industrial wastes or NV's story lines. Never completed dragon age, always became bored at a certain moment.. felt too 'linear' I suppose.
