pc has a voice in Skyrim

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:35 pm

I just realized that your character will have a voice in Skyrim. At least you will need one for dragon shouts. This is a first for Elder Scrolls games if I am correct. How far do you think you will be able to customize your voice? Certainly we will not all sound the same when we shout. I like the Dragon Age approach to this. Choose your style of voice. What do you guys think?

Well, in the past, they've grunted. I'm fine with it, as long as it's just for shouts.

I doubt we'll be able to customize our voice, since it will most likely only be used for the shouts and grunts.

all your character will be saying is in dragon tongue, so I don't think it matters.

What's the difference?

Oblivion: "Arg!"

Skyrim: "Dah!"

You've always (or almost always) had a voice. You just used it go grunt and moan before. Hopefully, the dragon shouts will be abstracted or something, turning them into words of power, and not your own words, so that it's not really what you sound like. I, personally, want them to tell me what my character sounds like as little as possible. That just doesn't work very well when you're the one making the character. As for choosing a voice style, I don't think you could provide enough options to make it worth the time.

But you're not correct. Your character has used their own voice to grunt when hit in...at least everything from Morrowind forward.

I don't have any reason to expect we'll be able to.

Certainly we will not all sound the same when we shout.

Why not? We all sound like little girls when we get hit and squeal.

Maybe there'll be a few option like in DA:O but I doubt it.

I just hope Argonians don't sound ridiculous when using shouts.

Well, our voice could change completely when shouting, most likely into one of a Dragon's, since it is after all, a Dragonshout.

I hope we have a choice of all the voices avalable for characters ofour race, but we only use them for grunts and dragon shouts.

Having your charater speak will be a practical impossibility.

I'd really like that. It's not too unlikely, given that there's supposed to be more than one voice actor for each race. But still, I also have my doubts.

In the trailer he had a human voice.

I do like the idea of a universal dragon voice, though. Seems like a good solution.

I don't like the idea of your voice magically totally changing for the shouts, nor would I want every single dragon to sound exactly the same. Just imagine using a dragon shout and then your opponent, a dragon, doing so as well and the voice being the exact same voice. No thank you.

I don't mind that my character will have a voice for the shouts. If I don't like it I'll get over it.

How about a voice similar to other dragons but not exactly the same? And why wouldn't your voice magically change for the shouts? You're getting them magically from slain dragons.

No need to talk about changing voices. It's different for each race.

Oh, true.

Hope it's not the same for NPCs...

I would don't want a voice, i'm acually a bit turned off by the dragon shout voice as it would hurt my own imagining of my character's voice. The system sounds really cool, but it limits role playing a bit. Sure you could ignore the tone, but it takes some willpower to do. I just hope it doesn't sound like some amazon yelling for females.
