I hate Marcus

Post » Mon Oct 05, 2009 9:12 am

Anyone else hate this arrogant tosser with a passion?

I couldn't stand him in FO2. Wasn't too pleased to run into him again. The happy part is you get to set a bunch of mercs on him, rip him off of his caps, destroy his settlement etc

Important note: this is not to say Marcus is a badly made character, quite the opposite.

Bad fan-service though.
I expected him to be the one to canonize a lot of stuff from FO2 and he is as vague as possible about his past with The Chosen One...

Shambo, I don't see how you can hate him though, he's a nice guy and means well most of the time, what's to hate about that?
Sure he can be a little on the boring side but to hate him? Preposterous!

I agree, I mean, I was expecting Marcus to give us alot of dialogue, I mean, I don't care about Marcus personality, but as a well known Icon of Fallout 2 fans, you'd THINK he'd pretty much sate any question a fan could ask about what all happened. But Marcus is pretty much

Where'd you go? M:Places
What happened? M:Stuff
What is Jacobstown?: M: Place named after a guy

I've been busy for months, and not had time to play much... IRRC I've only just opened up the caravan route at the NCR outpost.

Arrogant? What? How is he arrogant? Seems to me like he's the opposite. I don't get how you can hate him. I enjoyed seeing him in game, but yeah, he could have used more dialogue. Maybe Michael Dorn was expensive. Plus, having him in-game allowed a modder to make a good companion mod for him.

Wait a minute... If you can kill him in Fo2... does that mean Marcus is possibly a ghost? (in New Vegas)

Decisions are canonized from game to game. It is canon that the Chosen One traveled with Marcus ("I walked the wastes with a tribal"), and I think Cassidy too. Several other things are canon in New Vegas that had variations in Fallout 2.

lol'd

I guess Obsidian make Marcus in form of easter egg because they want to lighten the role of Super Mutants, just like Brotherhood of Steel. I mean in the next fallout I expect the only living Super Mutant and BoS would be your companion if the trend continues.

It's only been 30 years. It's still possible for him or Kurisu to be alive. Honestly those two could be a wealth of canon information. Shame that Marcus didn't fit that.

Did he survive Fallout 2?

*****

It would appear that he did:
Sulik returned to the primitive tribe for a few moons (months) after breaking paths with the Chosen One, then headed east in search of his sister. It is left open for future games and fan opinion to close out Sulik's story and decide whether the story of Kurisu, told in Van Buren, is part of it.

Though he might still have died and become a "Grampy Bone".

Marcus described the Chosen one as his friend, and Marcus was a good karmic companion, from that you can infer the Chosen One was also heroic.

I don't get how he is arrogant. I like him in Fallout 2. I wish he had more lines in New Vegas. Like gabriel said I was hoping he would talk more about the events of Fallout 2 but I don't see how he is arrogant in New Vegas or Fallout 2.

Bad fan-service though.

It could have been alot worse. Look what Bethesda did to poor Harold  The worst part about what they did to Harold was many of the new fans would not have even known about him so they only had him in the game as fan service to the older fans and look what they did to him! Why Bethesda why?!

At least the Oasis quest was one of the only morally grey quests in the game. Though it's a crap concept IMO.

He really isn't arrogant. The only thing that could be misconstrued as arrogant is his attitude about mutants vs. humans, which is well-founded and he recognizes what is good and bad about them. His reasoning is intelligent and is presented to the player well.

Possibly, they could not get the voice actor; (but not likely I suppose). We can always hope that in FO4, they write in how Bob had seeds, and the seeds would grow into Harold/tree creatures like the one in the Oasis. Each one semi-sentient and thinks he's Harold; and has Harold's memories.

Agreed on both. Marcus is not arrogant and Oasis was a crap consept. The whole point was "if you help you will bring life to the wasteland, if not you doom it." Its crap because there should have been life in the wasteland in the first place and they ruined Harold IMO..
