I like Falkreath plenty, and would guess I have spent more time there then markarth. But I lose my bearings easily in that place and run around like a headless chicken. it baffle's me because i don't have an issue with any other city/village.

lol... I knew their would be..it's just that annoying.
It's the tree's, unlike The Rift... which has open spaces and very obvious landmarks, Falkreath Hold is lot's of tree's and canyons... with more subtle landmarks so it's harder to keep your bearing unless you are looking for just the right things to navigate by.
One of the things that will help is to walk through really looking at each area and then checking to see where you are on the map... eventually you can pull that map up in your head and "know" where you are at. I like doing "hunter/ explorer" characters for each hold... that particular character not leaving their area much.
I like the City itself but....the quests involved there are the pits.....I've only done them once and that was enough. I am using a couple of mods that clean up Understone Keep and that really makes a difference when visiting Calcelmo, other than that,I try to avoid any business there!
It's another of kryptopyr's great mods: The Choice is Yours (plus Quest Eraser if you don't have TCiY installed until into a game). TCiY: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26359/and Quest Eraser: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/26660/
Awesome... you know I had already had The Choice is Your's tracked, but for some reason I have never downloaded it... I just took care of that, plus added a couple. I had forgotten the name, but that's me for ya.
I have the whole search page for krypt bookmarked.... SUPER mods. After I clear up my cc debt for Christmas, I'm going to be donating a bunch of money to her/him - because all those mods make my life SOOOOOO much easier!
They are, I already had a couple... along with Arthmoor's... Sometimes I feel bad that I can't donate, my C.C. bill right now will take 2 yr's to pay off.. at minimum... Oilfield... we tried to stay afloat after it "busted". Well... anyway, I wish I had the spare money...cause they really deserve it.
Yep, Arth too.... I'm lucky, we're retired and have a decent "no worries" income; we're not wealthy but we pretty much pay as we go - CCs get paid off every month, we have a truck loan (because our 20 year old wonder-tank burned up in January *sigh* - I'd have been perfectly happy to have put another 285k miles on it....) and a smallish mortgage and that's it. So in a few days, I'll be sending out some New Year's cheer to those guys.
Serethil, thank you for posting these links,I've been looking for something like this since I started modding my game but the Nexus site has sooo many mods I have only just begun to scratch the surface. They will be a great help with my next character roll.
I hate it aswell. mostly because of scripted quests that forces its way into your quest log.
Oh, you're quite welcome! Yes, looking through the nexus (without GOOD keywords!) is a nightmare. I've been known to spend several hours just combing.... but I'm retired, so I can do that. I do try to post mod links when I think they're something others would find useful.
Ah, retirement - something my generation may never see
One tip is to start here, http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/top/?.... now their are alot of skimpy mods on the list... It's just a starting point, I spent 2 yr's just making up a "wish" list for when I got my PC. (seriously I decided at some point I would get a PC that would run Skyrim ) but I played on 360 til this April. I knew what I wanted to change the most, those things that bothered me the most...and those are the things that I found Mod's for.
Once you see a mod that you really like... see if that mod author has something else that you might like...see what they recommend. You can find some nice mod's that way.
Those look very good, thank you for pointing them out.
I also don't like Markarth. Not a fan of Solitude either.
Nothing to do with navigation issues or needing to outgrow my preferences.
Thanks to you too Areial, I am retired also but will make good use of these tips for the Nexus,I am already using quite a few of these mods and just rolled a new character using the "Alternate Start-Live Another Life" mod and I'm really pleased with things so far. My Nord has started as Erik The Slayer's childhood friend and came to life at the Inn in Rorikstead. It is so different from the vanilla game now and the only thing I'm dealing with is an out-dated video card in my computer(GTX 280),it only has 1 gig of vram and the hi-res textures are bringing it to it's knees at any more than low settings. Soon to be remedied though,a new mobo and Evga GTX 970 4 gig card is in the works and should be good for high settings,my I7 cpu is o/c'd to 4.2 Ghz and it seems to be handling loading everything just fine. BTW,am using JK's Markarth city overhaul mod and it really makes a huge difference in looks,I really like all of JK's city mods.
I hate Markarth too.. but for different reasons.
In both Markarth and Riften I seem to have the same problem; I can't stay there for long, or else I'm bound to get in trouble in some way. It usually starts with stealing something by accident, having to kill the witnesses, and then eventual guards and whatnot.
It happens every time, not even exaggerating here.
Suddenly, and in a completely contrary state of mind, I desperately need to go to Markarth.
"Indeed, and I apologise for any air of hostility that may have temporarily manifested in the mist of your mind, for I may only speak my own" (hey, that would be a good quote to add to my new book ). Also, I may be green as the grass grows in both terms of colour, and of serious fighting experience, but I have a dream....
"I dream that the Orsimer will shatter the shackles called 'stereotype', and snap the sharpened spearhead called 'discrimination' that is digging in to our sides like an omnipresent thorn"
Markath is a great place to use your Dwarven smithing perk. Lots of metal to pick up while exploring the ruins and two very nearby smithies for smithing and sellling your many, many Dwarven Bows.
I didn't like the city at first, but it's grown on me. I'm not a huge fan of the quests in the city, but I hear that the priestess of Diabella is a fun spouse.
I love The Reach, though. It reminds me of Dragon Age and the area around Ostagar.
