I hate the Brotherhood of Steel

In NV my relationship issues with the BOS finally came to a head. I've never liked them. One constant of all the FO games is they are a bunch of pompous, pretentious self important losers who look down their noses at you. Before they treat you with any respect they have to be won over in some way, and even then they are forever making snide remarks as though you were raised by a family of rats or something.

In NV they took it too far, making me wear a [censored] explosive collar. And I was less than impressed with them in other ways. They didn't have a CLUE about the outside world. I knew much more than they did and I was just a lone dude. And as usual they were plaugued with internal conflict and expect you to get involved in their poxy little political problems. I mean, who the hell cares what scribe so and so has to say about chief paladin whoever?

The good bit - the happy part of this story - is I got to blow them all up at the flick of a swtich. The whole chapter!! Without altering the overall course of the game. How satisfying was that?

The BOS are much better in Fallout 3. The Mojave chapter are a bunch of Pansy's who deserve to have their bunker blew up.

By much better you mean what they shouldn't be?

The BoS in FO3 "went native". I think much more of the BoS would do the same if they had to deal with the outside world. As it is they only come out when they want something. Marching across the country obviously had a profound effect on Elder Lyon. Veronica is much more open minded and I think it is because she spends so much time above ground.

Veronica should had an ending where she went east to join up with Elder Lyon's. Given her personality and beliefs she could actually find happiness there.

I think she'd fit right in as the unarmed/melee specialist in Lyon's Pride.

Mojave Chapter felt good actually.
Apparently they are being hunted by NCR and are right now surrounded by them.
They are showing how the BOS is finally dying away in their oh so safe bunker with their big bulky exoskeletons and fearsome energy weapons.
Find it quite fitting.
They still want to be the badasses they used to be, hence the slave collar and stripped greeting, but they're too much in a decline to actually do anything.
I love West Coast BOS but they've been digging their own grave the whole time, suits them just fine to wither away.

I prefear the NV brotherhood of steel. Sure they stick a explosive collar but thats for security. Keep in mind that the brotherhood could have kept the collar on you and forced you to work for them some more. Afterwards they treat you fairly and they say that if you do not want to help them thats okay. If there was a ending where the brotherhood take control of NV, i would go for that every time

Yeah but she'd have to know about them first :(

I liked FO3's BoS (as in, liked them as people) because they were doing what they should, actually using acquired tech to help people and for a while working on tech which wasn't military related (SHOCK HORROR!)
I despise the BoS in 1, 2 and NV (only others I've played). They're pompous, arrogant fools. Children worshipping something they don't really understand, savages dancing around the shiny boomstick. They are frankly pathetic and the way they treat others? Like they're inferior? Please. My apologies I'm not an inbreed tribal with an IQ which just nudges out a radroach.

As a scribe its unlikely she'd be in Lion's Pride, but if she crossed the few thousand miles from the Mojave to DC who'd argue.
At some point she'll make a cameo appearance in my Fallout Journey's fanfic which takes place in 2294 in DC.

The NV brotherhood treat you fine, i know they stick a charge on you at the start but i forgave them because i understood their situation. CL, NCR and house wanted to kill them and so they neded to make sure you were not a threat.

I liked them too. Lyon's BOS, that is. The Outcasts always ended up dead when I came around, for some odd reason...

As crazy as this sounds, i actually ADMIRE the BoS in New Vegas. I haven't played any other Fallout games, so I'm not sure if this is how they are supposed to be, but i admire their courage (or at least, what courage they HAD before the coward MacNamara took over), and their willingness to protect what they believe in and die for it. Heck, when I played my Legion campaign, it took me over 10 tries to bust that bunker. I like their skill, and the fact that hey have hid out and resisted from overwhelming forces is a testament to how strong their will to survive is. I admit that their current leadership is undesirable to say the least, and is definately restricting them in ways that MacNamaera cannot see, but what would you do if you were in charge of a group of men and women, that were severely outnumbered by the enemy, and surrounded on all sides? You have Caesars Legion, NCR, Great Khans, and numerous other hostile tribals to deal with. Not to mention how much House wants them out of the picture. The safest thing they can do right now is hold down a secure position, and hope to get out alive one day. Despite their training, battle skills, and weaponry, they are no match for any main faction.

The ones in Fallout 3 were the absolute worst. I will never get over how they were portrayed by Bethesda *shivers*.

First game no science or speech skills, this feels right...
Second game full techno build I've got to do everything the long way again, no short cuts.
Oh well lets get going, I'm sure something new may happen .

Third / fourth game plus, Hunting shotgun no sneak, PA heads no longer head shaped.

I have yet to blow the base up that is how much I wish to inflict on them.
Pure malice and hot lead for slowing the game down on my good builds.
The BoS side main quest is just so dull after a few games, unlike every other aspect of NV.

The only quest requiring more leg work to places you've already visited is Red Lucy, at least her reward is more entertaining.

The Brotherhood of Steel has always remained what they are; xenophobic and technology admiriers.

In all the series of Fallout only 2 Brotherhoods ever differented from the West Coast tradition of being hostile to 'outsiders'.

Fallout Tactics Mid-Western Brotherhood which actually could make a utopia with no discrimination. They were the first to accept outsiders into their group and allowed a mutual benifit to come between them and the locals. They accepted Deathclaws (intelligent hary ones), Ghouls and SuperMutants. They believed in sharing their knowledge in order to protect humanity while also maintain a military in order to take out threats.

Fallout 3's Brotherhood is a direct copy of this. Although it is done rather stupidly; take for example how the two defend the locals.

While the Mid-western Brotherhood defends you but wants something in exchange (new bodies, ability to trade, etc) the Fallout 3's Brotherhood just defends you. Doesn't take any repriations nor do they allow outsiders into the Brotherhood besides our Lone Wanderer.

In Long term goal the East Coast's Brotherhood is going to die out in that rate, since they lose more troops then worth the effort.

But in New Vegas I do have a sense of admirability for them simply because they want to hold out until their dying breath. Problem is I dont like how they harass people for technology and take HELIOS One.

I liked them in NV. Yes they are self-centered, pompous pricks but hey, so am I. I straightened 'em out a bit by overthrowing the Elder who kept them locked in, yelling at them a wee bit, and ta-daa!

Ahem. We'll. At least now there's patrols. And me in fancy gear. As pompous and pretentious as ever.

Cheers.

I believe Veronica is quite different from Lyon.

Veronica is actually ambitious, she want the brotherhood to carve a nation of their own, if not trump over NCR in the West Coast. While Lyon is just a charity, which only appreciate by a few.

Oh I know. I'm not criticising the game as such. I didn't think they were badly written or anything. When you (or your character) gets insulted and annoyed by characters in the game that is actually a testement to the quality of the game.

Whats with all the hate against the brotherhood. They could have KEPT that collar on you and made you work for them abit longer. And they treat you well afterwards saying that you dont have to work for them. I have only blown them up once and that was when i did a playthrough for CL. :cryvaultboy: never again
