i have 600w psu and want to buy R9 280 or 370 watts?

I have a 600 watt psu and want to buy a card that will run the game (fallout 4) but i am afraid i wont have enough watts for a R9 280 running stock speed or can i run r9 370x (over clocked). Im guessing i dont have enough watts to run over clocked gpu. I want to run the game at med-high settings but will not run AA all the time. What card should i get??

If i went with the r7 370x (oc) would i be able to run AA and med-high settings??

Don't scrimp on the GPU, just go get yourself a good quality PSU (make sure it's at least a gold model, say 800W) when you get your nice graphics card. That should be enough for a while.

Don't get too hung up on watts. How much you have going to the 12V rail and overall quality are much more important.

Exactly. Always research your PSU before buying, some of them say they are rated xxx yet received that rating in a slightly dodgy country and don't really perform as they should.

Read reviews first before buying!

TY taw and jd,

My 12v rail is 32Amp. Under that it says 576WATTS

So im guessing the r9 or r7 #s dont matter as much as the 2nd # in 370, that draws less watts than a 280 gpu rite???
Whichever series doesnt really make a difference in how much watts the gpu uses rite??

also i guess ill have to avoid the overclock gpu cards rite? Changing my psu isnt an option rite now.

You can play Fallout 4 on Ultra with all the setting maxed and no lag on a 750ti that doesn't even use 60 watts of power.

A 600 watt power supply is a whole lot more than you need. Save your money.

A normal system with an R9 280 should consume near 400 watt estimated.

So if you have a decent enough PSU, you should be fine.

The Nvidia GPU's are lower watts. GTX 960 (which is equal to a R9 280x ) is 140 watts max draw.

I have an Nvidia GTX 970 with a 550 watt power supply and no problems.

I used to love AMD Radeon GPU's but switched because I didn't want to buy another power supply.

I've been running an r270 on my Dell xps8900's OEM psu and no problems so far.
