Have I Broken the Main Quest?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:23 am

I've been reading UESP's Daggerfall main quest walkthrough and apparently in order to get the Who Gets the Totem quest you have to have completed the Orcish Treaty, Lysandus' Revenge, and the Lich's Soul quest that you get from the King of Worms.

The problem is that I never got the letter from the King of Worms that starts the Lich's Soul quest. See, way back when I had just started the main quest, I delivered Morgiah's letter to the King of Worms, but then when I went to the court of Wayrest to give Morgiah the letter that the King of Worms gave me, she wouldn't acknowledge me at all. I couldn't talk to her, and she wouldn't take the letter I was supposed to give her. Come to think of, I think that the letter may have disappeared from my inventory at some point, because I don't think it's in my inventory now, unless it's on my wagon. Actually, I'm pretty sure that I didn't have a wagon at that point, so that's unlikely.

Have I pretty much broken the main quest, or is there some way to fix this? Like maybe some nifty program that resets a subplot of the main quest or really just anything that would allow me to continue the story.

Also, after killing Lord Woodborne my log still says that Lysandus' ghost told me who killed him, and when I picked up Lord Woodborne's diary after killing him, the log updates to tell me that I could use this against him (although he is already dead) and indeed, I can go to Nulfaga, Barenziah, or Eadwyre and they tell me that that they'll take care of Woodborne (although, again, I've already taken care of him), but my log still has the entry about Lysandus' ghost and Woodborne's diary. Shouldn't those entries have disappeared when I killed Woodborne? Is this a problem as well?

Thanks in advance.

Using a program called Thaw that I recently found I was able to restart the Morgiah subplot and I now have the Totem of Tiber Septim. Hopefully there will be no problems from this point onward.

Well, I just finished the main quest. Now it's time to become head of the Mages Guild, School of Julianos, and some knightly order. Always something to do in this game...

*sigh* I have a problem, I recently found the totem and I want to give it to one of the fractions but no one talks to me about it. Lady Brisienna ignores me, Gortwog only wants to have a chat with me and others ignore me too. What the heck did I do wrong?

It may take a bit of time for their letters/assassins to reach you. You can't give it to them until they've contacted you in some way about it.

Oh oldhome, in-case you haven't found out yet I don't think you can join the mages guild and the school of julianos. If I recall correctly the mage guild and the school of julianos are not on freindly terms with each other.

Yes, you can join both. You can't join two temples, but no temple affiliation will stop you from joining the Mage's guild (and vice-versa).

I received all of their letters, I can sell the totem for 100000 Gold, artifacts, fame and stuff but no one talks to me :(

I simply reloaded and now I am able to give the totem to one of the fractions. One last questions, which reward is best? The Amulet of Necromancers, Gortwogs artifact (don't know what kind of artifact he owns), or Lady Brisianna?

Ah, it's a sad day when the fate of the kingdoms lies in who has the best trinkets to offer ;)

Well, the Warp in the West simplifies my choice, I won't change the future regardless of which fraction gets the totem. So who has the best reward in charge?

Well, lets' see. Give the totem to:

King of Worms: Fame. Blah.
Eadwyr of Wayrest: Assassins thinly disguised as a promise of gold. How quaint.
Underking: Necromancers amulet (regen, wisdom, spell abs.) Not all that great when you get down to it.
Gothryd of Daggerfall/Akorithi of Sentinel: 100k gold. I'm sure you have more than that already.
Gortwog: Random artifact.
Emperor via Lady B: Warlock's Ring (Shalidor's Mirror, Heal, Speed), Shal's Mirror is sweet.

Yea, I'm pretty sure the Ring is the best. Reflection spells being tough as heck to cast, and this one's really potent.

According to UESP, though, Gortwog only promises to give you an artifact, but doesn't actually give you anything. So, there's really no reason to give it to him unless you're roleplaying a character that wants to help him create the state of Orsinium.

I have to add my vote for the Warlock's Ring for two reasons. First is a role playing reason: I started this quest on a mission for the Emperor, I am damn sure going to finish what I started. Secondly, the ring is much superior to the amulet; spell absorption is a cast-iron [censored] to manage when an overdose of magika kills you and you have to stay worried about how many of a hundred fireballs you can absorb. :flame: :flame:

I already wondered why there was no artifact in my inventory after he got the totem. Never trust orcs...
So Lady B will be my first choice, thanks for the help!
