I have a confession about Fallout 3 DLC

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 4:37 am

I have never played point lookout, I haven't even bought a ferry ticket mainly because I was a low level, but now I have a level 18 and was wondering if I should start it, I've played the other dlc's twice, this is my first post but not my first time on the forums

Yes, I think you definitely should! And it's probably a good thing you're level 18, too. If you were a low level you would have a hard time surviving, the enemies are quite tough there,

Yes, play it. I suggest that you use the weapons provided by the DLC.

It might be just me, but whenever I go to PL using my standard weaponry, I can hardly damage the enemies; if I use the DLC weapons, I can put on the hurt.

Don't feel bad, neither have I. I started out there once but never finished it.

You don't really need to buy one, someone in the Muddy Rudder bar in Rivet City will give you one.

Well, it's a bit long, but you can always return back to the wasteland before finishing anything, you just have to buy another ticket.

This is one of the changes that is made by the mod Fallout Remastered. If ou don't have it, you have to buy a ticket.

Microsoft just had a one day sale on April 1st, so I bought PL and BS, and both will be first-time plays for me.

But I want to do vanilla first, to level 15, before I install them into the game. I find DLC seems to be crafted after a game was played, not during it, which usually accounts for the stronger enemies.

There's the Lever-Action rifle which is pretty nifty and I don't remember seeing the DB Shotgun in the main game but I may be wrong.

And of course who can be without the famous fertiliser shovel

You don't have to worry about it. Point Lookout has no effect on the main game until you actually go to Point Lookout, other than a single character in Rivet City who gives you a quest and the appearance of Punga Fruit in the food vendor's list. And the creatures from Broken Steel won't start showing up until you're at least level 18. They're actually set to appear at 20, or later, but sometimes the levelled lists makes creature appear a little bit earlier than when they're supposed to.

Well that person never appears in Rivet City when I play. She is always at the ferry to Point Lookout.

I think Nadine's mom being in the bar is from FOOK, although I may be wrong. In the normal game she appears by the boat to PL.

Point Lookout is IMO the second best DLC for Fallout 3, the first being The Pitt.

So yeah give it a try

If those two are your favortites then what's your opinion about Mothership Zeta? On a side note, don't eat punga fruit are use ultra jet in the middle of the wasteland.

Nope. I don't use FOOK and I always run into her at Rivet City. Now I do use a DLC delay mod, so maybe that has something to do with it. At any rate, once you agree to go look for Nadine, she'll give you a ticket. Unless that too has been changed by the DLC delay mod I use. I've always presumed that's how it worked in the normal game as I've never played it without that delayer.

As for my favourites though, getting on topic, I didn't like Operation Anchorage at all, it's nothing but an arcade type shoot em up, and I'm not into those types of games. Mothership Zeta was interesting as a once through, but doesn't have much in the way replayability for me. It was just too much of a departure from the rest of the game. The Pitt was pretty good though. It fit in well with the main game and i liked that moral ambiguity you had to deal with in the main quest. i haven't completed Point Lookout so I can't really comment on it, but it looks interesting. I started out there once but never completed it. Looking at it in the editor though, it seems like it's a real "monty haul", with too much loot to be had. So far I'm inclined to rate The Pitt a bit higher. Broken Steel is definitely the best as far as I'm concerned simply because it picks up where the original game left of and continues on with the storyline. It has a better fit with the main game than any of the others for that reason, and adds a lot more overall than the others do IMO.

Well, I don't use any mods, and I have never gotten a ticket from her, so I think it's safe to say it's a mod thing.
