"We do have Dwarven Ruins" - Todd Howard

Post » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:41 pm

I should be noted that Nords traditionally call Dwemer "Dwarves".

We have know about his for months, but I am happy about it. They were my fav dungeon type in MW, perhaps of all TES.

I'm hoping actual dwarves make it into the game, rather than getting teased by their ruins, armor, and weapons.

you can the one and only dwarf is in morowind with corpus go play that and you can meet him. As for Dwemer in Skyrim i sure hope not thats the point of them in the first place an ancient techno race who disappeared completely for seemingly sinister reasons

Yeah so did I...

On topic: i can't wait to see them ^_^ its one of the main things that peaked my interest out of all the confirmations it will certainly be interesting to see how they turn out with all the remastered graphics and architecture. the same creatures from TES III redesigned in the new graphic format and all.

we know they'll in since the Mark Lampert interview during the GI coverage. You can see a dwemer sphere in there.

Nobody here thinks Dwarven and Dwemer are different, the point is that lorewise, "Dwarven" is explicitly noted as being the version of the term used by ignorant people.

I'm excited about them as well. :)
But yeah, not only has it been confirmed before, we actually also saw them in the trailer for a couple of frames. There will be less brass (or metal in general) than in Morrowind, which is more realistic if you ask me - and also that way they look more like the ruins on Stros M'kai. So maybe there will actually be a lore reason for it, which would be very nice.

Hope a couple of other dungeon types will also be revealed in time, however. I'd hate a Skyrim with only caves and Dwemer ruins, no matter how interesting they are themselves.

Todd said that half of the dungeons(guessing that includes ruins and caves) are complicated 1-2 hour long playthroughs. I can't wait to play them, really hope that they are rich with diversity and scenery

These dwarves should be thematically different than their Morrowind counterparts. Rourkan split from Morrowind's dwarves, centuries before Red Mountain's battle, and traveled west to Hammerfall. Hopefully this means they're a bit different, so the presence of dwarven ruins doesn't come off as a wave to Morrowind fans for more "alienness." They should be truly alien, compared to what we've seen so far.

I don't think that Todd really didn't want to do that in this game. In a interview, he said that is what made Morrowind special. I think that he is trying to make a more of scale awe for the audience this time around. I think that the "Dwarven" ruins are amazing scale wise

Maybe Todd is Imperial? Then it's okay to say dwarven. I think of him as a Wood Elf though.

yeah. some NPCs in the game call them dwarves, we all know what he was talking about. Otherwise, people would be saying "what the hell are dwarves?" not "They are actually called Dwemer!!:grad: ".

I agree about that. Todd is, without a doubt, a Bosmer. In fact, after hearing that he said about his beggining in the videogame industry, when he used to game to Bethesda offices and say "OMG you rock! I wanna make games with you!!!!" I would say he is the Adoring Fan (Todd, if you read this, you must know that, anyway, you rock).

You mean hours right? A dungeon that requires 1 or 2 playthroughs to finish would be... I can't think of a word.

Playing Morrowind right now. Asked some dumner about dwemers and he said that the westerners call them dwarves.

I guess that tells us Todd is from the western part of Tamriel.

Edit

it'd be cool if we met Divayth Fyr while exploring some Dwemer ruin, and he tells us about how Yagrum Bagarn died finally, and in his last words he told Divayth a "secret" to their disappearance may lay in wait at ruin X in Skyrim.

While it is not directly said what happened to the dwemer, you can pretty much find out it if you do mages quests and especially the one archmage Trebonius gives you. Be sure to get the three dwemer books, talk to alot of telvanni, some other people, and ofcourse Yagrum Bagarn himself.

So glad there will be a range of dungeons again. Dwemer ruins were among the best in Morrowind.
Would love it if you bump into Baladas Demnevanni living inside one of the ruins doing research in his later years.
He did say he would be returning to his studies once he finishes with the Telvanni council in 200 years or so. Although I'd suggest he's gotten off that duty sooner ;)
