Have I explored TOO much? How much do YOU explore?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:59 am

I just looked at my ingame stats and it says I have found 155 'places of interest' , now I remember Pete or Todd saying something about the amount of places of interest during Skyrim's production, does anyone remember what this amount is? What I am worried about is maybe I have explored TOO much leaving not enough places to visit for Quests?!! I haven't even started the MQ yet, and only began the Companions Quest line, apart from that I have just been dungeon crawling, exploring and completing side quest lines! Btw my charachter is a level 28 Wood Elf Archer who is also quite handy with a sword and mace. Game time has just clicked past 70 hours!

I have noticed a few smaller quests where they are pointing me at caves or dungeons that I have already cleared it has me worried :( Is it time to run all the main questlines? I barely have fast traveled anywhere btw, I find this style of play much more enjoyable!

How much have you explored?

I only explore quest locations, if a quest takes me to a dungeon, I won't leave the place without checking every nook.

The only thing you really have to worry about is if you've sold some quest items which will cause you to not complete quests later on.

Problem with this is, there are SO MANY amazing places in this game that quests will never take you to. Eventually you're going to have to start looking for things on your own.

I personally don't think that you can explore too much. A lot of people are afraid that if they visit a dungeon too soon, and then have to go back to it for a quest, it breaks the game. I've never had this problem with any TES game, and don't expect to. gamesas builds these massive worlds because they want you to explore them.

The only thing you really have to worry about is if you've sold some quest items which will cause you to not complete quests later on.

I'm fairly certain *most* quest items are unsaleable. Only instance I can think of involves a bottle of skooma and a certain mine.

I dont think you should have a problem.

If you do, I probably will too.

My main is solving problems, slugging away through the Companions, and making a name for himself in Skyrim before he ever becomes the Jarl of Whiterun and a legendary dragon slayer.

It's okay, you can't get rid of ANY quest items, sometimes even after the quest has finished.

I explore all the time, and occasionally do a quest so the mass variety of the game keeps in tact. If I have been through a dungeon that later becomes a place for a quest; the enemies are usually respawned.
I haven't run in the problem where I happen to pick up a quest item prematurely, afterwards being stuck with the quest item in my inventory...

Some quests, even random quests, send you to already cleared locations sometimes. You will be fine.

This is a good point. The new radiant quests depend largely on randomly assigned locations, so of course the developer's would make sure that pre-exploring locations wouldn't break the game. Not that it did before, at least in my experience.

Nope. My guy will become a famous hero, almost forgetting about the dragon that once set him down the path of destiny... until one day they return, and he must arise to meet his fate haha. :violin:

No, my point is can you actually become Jarl? Like legitimately? This is not something I've heard.

This. You CAN break quests by exploring too much and then not being able to complete it. I'm assuming you mean quest where you have

Spoiler
to kill Sild The Warlock?
I already killed him too without even starting the Companions quest. I guess I'll be stuck too.

I've got around 280 places discovered, and I'm sitting on around 100 hours. You've got quite a long way to go

I haven't run into any problems exploring too much. Spent close to 80 hours simply doing misc quests and exploring. However I think I did think I ended up messing up a quest, one involving the curious silver mold. I can't seem to hand it in to the guy.

Yeah I haven't run into any game breaking bugs playing Skyrim this way, and your right, quests only take you to so many places, if you want a fuller Skyrim experience I really do think you need to get around on foot! I have lost count the amount of times I have stopped and stared at a mountain vista view, Sunrise, Sunset or the Auroras, the games constantly amazing me! How many of these things wouldn't I have seen if I just stuck to Quest related Locales?

I found quest related items can't be sold or removed so that hasn't been an issue either.

Haha you'll be allright... I did the same thing at the beginning and have still tonnes to discover after 120 hours.

The part of Beth games for me is just seeing some interesting looking shape on the horizon and wandering off to see what's there :)

Wow 340 so I sitll have a couple of hundred places to find? Wow... wonder where they are, if I look at my ingame map theres locales showing up cleared everywhere I look except for far west past Dragonsbridge, haven't had the inclination to go out there yet, but from what I have seen it has some AMAZING vista's and views :) Im the sort of gamer that will find a hunters hut perched on an outcrop with an amazing view and sit there all day (ingame) watching the weather change and then the sun set or rise! If I am sleeping or resting in these places I always make sure I am up just before dawn or just before sunset! Its things like this that make this game amazing, I could see myself doing the same things in RL :)
