have Fallout Anthology, why is it all steam installs?

Post » Thu Oct 22, 2015 12:14 pm

i got the game collection preordered during the summer, and i was happy to have a collection of all the games on disc. however i am very irate the games are all steam install only, and not drm free. this is my first new pc game purchase in ages, i got a new pc for my birthday back in may. my last pc was a windows 98se pc (which i had for yrs), most every game i have up to this point on disc were all drm free and did not use steam, and i could loan to friends at any time.

i am very pissed that a physical game on pc is forcing me to register it on steam and now connected to me and me alone and i cannot loan the discs to any of my friends that may not have ever had the chance to play fallout before. i own the original pc discs of fallout 1 and 2, the jewel case 2-pack that was released yrs ago by interplay. i used to own fallout 4 and NV on console, but the console versions have a TON of glitches and issues.

why the hell is a physical game forcing me to register on steam, and the discs are all steam installs?!

i either want my money back or bethesda to give me a DRM free version of the collection! i am currently on hold waiting for gamesas tech support to complain about this, it isnt right!

This has been common practice for literally years, for like 90% of PC games.

doesnt matter, if i were to buy a set like this on console it would be worth money, resellable, value would go up or down, and i could loan it to friends if i had the disc version. all the games were released prior to the big steam/origin push and there are DRM free versions of the games out there. why the heck cant they give me that? it is a disc release! i should not be forced into a steam only purchase.

i have original interplay drm free discs for fallout 1 and 2.

i have been a console gamer for yrs. this is my first time doing pc gaming in a long time, i am not happy with this at all, and am likely to start buying consoles and games again due to this, screw the pc if this is where things are now.

Consoles have been doing this for years, even before PCs.

It's no different there.

then why can you loan game discs for console to friends and not pc discs? why can you sell console games and not pc games?

this collectors edition is pretty much valuable only to me now. there isnt going to be a market for it past the mini-nuke case only, or a mint condition version of the collection w/ a non-used game registration code. my collection is most definitely not mint anymore as it is opened and the code has been used.

i have Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the 3ds, the game is selling for $60 used at game stores. more for online. Fallout Anthology cannot be sold (unless new) and has no value once you use the code. sure you can buy digital versions of games on the net now for console but you cant loan em to friends, if you got the physical media version, you can.

You really can't unless you like a gimped experience since most console games have some sort of content, SP, MP, DLC, or something that gets locked to the first XBL or PSN account that plays the game.

That is how software had been made to work since the beginning of time.

You know all those EULAs from PC games and other software you have been agreeing to since the mid 90's? They all say your not supposed to let other people have the software. his is true of operating systems, music disks, video games, and just generic software. The only difference is now companies have the means to enforce those things you have been agreeing to for decades.

You aren't supposed to let anyone else have it or play it, they are supposed to get their own.

not all games use dlc, Final Fantasy Type-0 is a complete game and uses no dlc, and is quite literally massive. if what you say were true then why do i loan video games to friends and they loan me their games? there are games, it is true that are gimped like ff13-2, and new vegas where you are shown areas which do nothing unless you have the dlc. but it is optional stuff mostly, you can still play the game and get the whole main story w/out dlc. if what you said were true, then no one would be able to resell their games and systems to video game stores. (nor movies or music cds)

i am sorry but if anyone has a physical version of a game, no matter the system, it should be DRM free! i waited an hr on the phone support line to be told to contact the store i bought the collection from, which obviously cant do anything cuz i redeemed the cd key already!

screw you gamesas and your damn DRM! DRM doesnt do anything for the consumer! and doesnt help anyone if they purchased a game physically and used a cd key! due to changes in steam policy, you have to have a steam wallet as well as have purchased a game online to give the game to someone else! sorry but no! that isnt how i roll, it isnt how i want things! i want the game to be DRM free, i dont want to return it, i want my money back and still have the games but have the games be DRM free!

I can sign into my XBLG from any 360 or XB1 and stay logged in indefinitely, on multiple consoles. PSN may be different, but you can share on XB.
I have F3 DLC on two separate consoles.

You bought the game, so as a consumer it is up to you to inform yourself about what hardware/software you need to play the game.
Just like you need a keyboard and mouse, you also need Steam to use most PC games. This was very likely labelled on the packaging somewhere for you to read.

The only refund you will get is by taking it back to the store you purchased it at, but since you already used the key that's not an option, so you might as well just use Steam and enjoy 100's of hours playing the games you love.

It's not perfect, but it's the only option now.

um wrong, i had a windows 98se pc for yrs, i just bought a brand new pc this year, i have been a console gamer since the PSX pretty much, ps2, ps3, 360, wii, psp, vita, ds, 3ds, etc. you had to preorder the game, in order to get the anthology collectors set, this was the website listing for it:

http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/fallout-anthology/123725

no where does it mention needing steam, no where does it show the game package. i havent played pc games since the early 2000 era, when i tried asking online priop to anthology coming out, no one gave me any straight answers. i bought the game online due to the fact that the collection was sold out at my local stores. my new pc that i bought this year, is a windows 10 pc. there is a LOT i have to learn so excuse me if i didnt know!

end result is it doesnt matter what i know and dont know, what matters is if i buy a game on physical media, having based it on yrs of console gaming with discs and whatnot, i would expect that it would still be the same as it was before way back when in 2000 w/ discs and installation. sorry, sometimes things dont change even 10yrs later.

I DO NOT AGREE WITH DRM! screw gamesas, screw steam, screw valve, screw all pc game companies that do this for big game releases! i expected to play versions of fallout that were released prior to steam, Fallout 1-NV all had pre-steam releases that were DRM free!

how the hell should i have known having been absent from pc gaming for 17ish yrs? all my friends kept saying steam rocks, steam is awesome, etc i had no pc to run it or any current games so why and how should i know?

one person told me that the discs would be only a steam link for installing, another person told me if the game was on disc i wouldnt need to worry about steam unless i wanted to do automatic updates, and i had other people tell me other things as well. so how would i know what to expect w/ different info given to me?

i wasnt even able to install the games until i put in the steam cd key, so ya, i pretty much was forced into it, nm the fact that when i joined steam earlier this year, i learned i cant add anyone to my friends list and a limited steam user cuz i dont have a steam wallet or bought any games on steam and other people that are full members have to add me, nor can u use steam forums/commuinty/trading cards/etc or anything. sorry, not gonna happen. not gonna pay to use an online service that might not be around forever.
