I have a feeling of how the game is going to end...

I've gotta say, if the player character becomes Emperor at the end, I'm just not doing the main quest.

Actually, there are a few options. Try this on for an ending cutscene:

A victorious Dohvakin is being hailed in Skyrim capitol. Not only did (s)he save the world, but most likely (s)he also ended the civil war. The nobles of Skyrim want to claim their hero as the sovereign of Skyrim. A group from Cyrodil make their precense known, with offers to help this new Dragonborn take up the mantle of the next Imperial line. Both sides start arguing.....and then a shout freezes the hall in time. And Our Hero ™ picks his/her way through the group (and my inclination would be for him/her to do something highly embarassing to the finger pointing leaders of each side as a little flourish), grabs the road gear and slips out of the hall, closing the door behind.

Ha... I agree with Dale B's assessment, in part.

If -anything-... you'd be the King / Queen of Skyrim... and the next most likely champion to move on towards the Imperial Throne in TES: VI

You're not gonna be made the Emperor -just- because you stopped some serious business from going down in the land of the Nords. The rest of Tamriel is in complete chaos! There's a -long- damn road ahead of anyone who has aspirations to bring the world under the rule of another Empire again. It's not likely to happen in the Dohvakin's lifespan... and it's sure as hell not going to be easy!

But I could settle for being the sovereign King of Skyrim.

Yeah... that's got a nice ring to it...

By the sounds of it, your Alduin is a mix between http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100510171505/howtotrainyourdragon/images/8/87/Zz0d02f6ff.jpg and http://images.wikia.com/familyguy/images/9/92/Thadious.PNG.

I personally hope the ending is more dramatic, with Alduin crippled atop the Throat of the World, and as you sink your blade into him you scream one final dragonshout. Alduin lets out an agonised roar as he turns to ash, and then swept away by the wind.

Ooh this makes me think of the Wheel of Time....perhaps our power will destroy more than the mountain.
We could all be a potential Lews Therin in the making..the Dragonborn, gone crazed with power :hubbahubba:

As you kill the last big dragon, it whispers 'fool', then Esbern turns up, splits open to reveal a far bigger dragon, explains that the Blades are really the harbingers of Alduin and the end of time, the Dragon dead at your feet is the avatar of Akatosh the protector, and you have been a pawn used to bring about the end of the world.
As the mountains around you crumble, and the world turns to a black nothingness, the last thing you hear as you fade to nothingness is Alduin musing " I wonder which version of the Warp in the West will come to pass this cycle?"

IT was answered in the podcast. You, a werewolf will be riding on a dragon with a spear in your hand and a crossbow on your back...

Since theres no more emperors and the emperors were all dragonborns,i actually think its a possibility were gonna end as emperor at the end.

If so maybe they will finally done with Tamriel and the next TES will be in Akavir,i sure hope so.
PS But i doubt we will become the emperor, Empire doesnt exists anymore. You ll need to reconquer Morrowind,BlackMarch,Elsweyr and maybe so other provinces.

I just hope the world still has massive problems after the MQ. I like how Oblivion did this - sure, you closed the gates, but the Empire is still in chaos...

Obviously, Alduin eats the world and poops out a new Nirn. Allowing BGS to reboot TES into a MMO with guns, lasers, and jets... Vroom vroom :deal:

Hahaha! I can imagine the fantasy medieval mmo of the future. The Elder Scrolls: Techno Nirn.

I WANT TO BE AN EMPEROR

OR

APOTHEOSIS

I don't understand people can be so limited in their imagination that they cannot see how being an emperor could be fun.

Before Shivering Isles people were say "Oh being a Daedric Prince would be the worst thing ever" Then when Bethesda made the game, the same people showed up on this forum years ago to gush at how being a Daedric Prince was implemented.

It's all about how it is done folks. I want to become a true bonafide god king. As a god king I can choose my avatar an appear to the people of as any race I like.

Heck after the main quest I can decide go to the different provinces and get involved in their politics in any form I like without their knowing.

Look at how Tiber Septim appeared like an old man to the nerevarine...godhood just opens the possibilities wide

Best ending ever? You wake up, and realize it was all a dream.

It's been done countless times already, and it still doesn't stop making me angry. When I take the time to go through you're story hoping to see where it goes, I do not want to see every single thing that happened in it rendered completely meaningless by the revelation that none of it actually happened within the story's setting.

I don't understand people can be so limited in their imagination that they cannot see how being an emperor could be fun.

I actually can see being an Emperor being fun, just not with the way that past Elder Scrolls games, and I'm sure Skyrim as well, are designed. The fun of being an emperor would come from actually running you're empire, which could make a whole other game by itself. If you did become the emperor in Skyrim, it would probably end up being pretty much like rising to the top of a faction in previous games, just with a higher position of authority. But the main reason I can't see the player becoming the Emperor is due to the issues of canon in future games. It's pretty hard to have the Emperor of Tamriel fade into obscurity like the heroes of past games, and even if you don't tell us who the player character was, since the Emperor would presumably have heirs, what race the player is would need to be defined so we know what race will continue the imperial bloodline.

As to how Skyrim will end, don't know, I'll know once the game is released and I've had a chance to finish the main quest. But I'm assuming it will end with an epic final boss fight (At least, it's supposed to be epic, I can't say if it will actually work out as intended.) with Alduin, which will presumably end with the player being the victor since I can't see an ending where Alduin wins allowing continued play after the main quest, and we know that's in the game. The details of the encounter, though, I can't say.

Being the Emperor wouldn't be very satisfying I think.

"Congratulations hero, you're the Emperor. Your throne awaits you in the Imperial City. But you can't get there since it was in another game and Cyrodiil is inaccessible because reasons. Ocato can handle everything. When he's not just sitting in that council room staring out across the empty table. He seems kinda down. Maybe you could sign this card saying how much we appreciate his help in these times of crisis? Thanks, bye. If you're looking for something to do, I hear the Fighter's Guild is recruiting again."

I have to say throwing down a mountain(The Throat?) with your draconic speaking voice on a God-dragon would be a great way to end the main quest.

I'd say its a good guess.

after a epic battle of course

I doubt it, mostly because this would make it hard to manage the lore for following games. It would be more difficult to rectify an emperor of any race and six with the rest of the world.

I feel like an argonian emperor would at least warrant a mention unless the next elder scrolls is set 1000 years later.

Okay being emperor would be fun if they did it better than Fable III handled being King. I mean, it was pretty much everyday you make a decision: Be a rich jerk, or an in-debt saint.

But then, like others said, how would that fit into the lore of future games? The emperor would have to be a faceless, raceless, genderless person. Now if, and big if, they found a way to make the lore work and sound good, then I wouldn't mind.

After you defeat the final dragon, it spokes to you. It tells us that the dragons were not malignant and they were fighting against a greater threat. With it's last breath it curses you and you become a dragon yourself. You're hated by everyone in the world, your best dragonhunter friends become your worst enemies. But you cannot give up, you have to stop the menace that the dragons were fighting.

... wait, this already happened in a different game. Nevermind.

About the whole Emperor thing, you guys forgot about one thing. It's 200 years since Oblivion and the Empire is pretty much gone. Even if you do get crowned as Emperor at the end, you won't really have any power over anything.

Good point. You do play after the main quest. So Dovahkiin won't die like the main character originally did in Fallout 3 lol. But the player definitely won't be emperor. We will probably just be crowned Champion of Skyrim or something to that effect.

The hero of Kvat-

If I became emperor, it would mean I had to give up my life as an adventurer to perform new duties. Which would mean ending the game at that point. Which is already said won't happen. That alone suggests we won't become emperor at the "end". Something similar might have worked in Fallout (which *does* end the game - unpopular by some but I like it), but not in Elder Scrolls.
