I have a feeling

...that Skyrim is going to soar past Oblivion in terms of excellence. My favourite Elder Scrolls game is Morrowind, and from everything I am seeing, and the attitude, ideas, and direction Beth seems to have, if they pull off what they want to do, I can see this being my favourite game of all time.

I feel that this game is going to be fantastic but (OMG A BUT!!!!!) each of the ES games have there own perks. Morrowind had the fantastic story line where everyone feared you in the end. Oblivion had the great graphics and game play. Each had there faults like morrowind 2 inches away from the rat and you still cant hit it. Oblivion yay yay i saved the earth i can now join the fighters guild. wait what you want me to go save rats???? What you talking about willis. Skyrim is going to be sixy but i have a feeling it will have its faults. But you know what if your a true fan of ES you will get past this. aka Skyrim is going to hopefully be a mix of both morrowind and oblivion.

I have a feeling this game will be GOTY, and it seems so already. :P

And yes, I can easily see this game exceeding well past Oblivion.

The awesomeness in Skyrim was only possible with the financial success of Oblivion.

I feel the same way.

I foresee it striking a balance between OB and MW, keeping the best elements of both.

The (more) fun combat of Oblivion, better graphics, etc.
The sense of culture and uniqueness of MW.
And of course OB's leveling system is gone! Hooray!

It really does look awesome so far, my hopes are really high that it's going to surpass MW as my favorite game.

*edit: Not to mention the professions/crafting/farming, very excited about that.

If it's essentially morrowind set in brand new skyrim with better graphics/physics than oblivion and more equipment than both of them combined it will be the greatest in the series.

I expect Skyrim to pass Morrowind and Oblivion in greatness and perhaps even tie with Daggerfall. I liked Oblivion more than Morrowind though I liked Morrowind's main story plot much better than even Daggerfall's. However Daggerfall is my favorite game still.

That's the problem. Too many people think that if it's not Morrowind it's not good. Games cannot be clones of morrowind, especially since it was a good game but not really that great. Skyrim needs to be it's own game just like every other TES game has always been it's own game.

I expect people to expect too much of the game, then whine and complain about how its horrible, didn't live up to their expectations, or was dumbed-down. I expect people to start flame wars over it and bluntly pretend their opinions are fact. I expect to love the game, moreso than I love Oblivion, which is my current favorite of the series. I expect, and even embrace, change and I recognize it as being reflective of Bethesda's nature. I am prepared to deal with changes that may not be to my best interests, but I will attempt to understand them and enjoy the game as the gem I expect it will be... as I see all four Elder Scrolls games to be.

I think it will be awesome also, way better than Oblivion and Morrowind for me (probably not the diehard fans though)

It's always the worlds that Bethesda makes that get me addicted to their games and so far the world sounds fantastic.

Criticism is one thing. Senseless bashing is another. Criticism is a driving force in the world and a necessity for progress. Senseless bashing, unconstructive rants, generalizations, and accusations are completely different. They do nothing but irritate, in my opinion.

Agreed.
No need to turn this into a Morrowind vs. Oblivion thread, but Morrowind is still my favorite. I find Daggerfall to be too vast, Oblivion to be too empty. Morrowind was like digital crack for RPG fans. I know that Bethesda has been working on this game for years, and I know they have been listening to us fanatics. If Skyrim finds that nice balance between the depth and complexity of Morrowind, with the beauty and fluidity of Oblivion, then I think I will be HOOKED! I started playing Morrowind (vanilla) last night for nostalgia's sake. Thought I was going to make a new character, play for an hour then close up shop. I played until 4am.

I just hope that the wait for Skyrim does not kill me. I'm an instant gratification kind of guy when it comes to entertainment. I want it now.

Yep, it should be epic, seeing as though now the Devs have the luxury of being able to take both the positives and negatives from both games and thereby implement the positives into Skyrim, whilst banishing the negatives. :)

The problem is how are we to agree on the positives and negatives? It's all very subjective. Hmm...

I hope so, I love Oblivion to death but we need Skyrim to destroy it in terms of comparasion and I mean everything in comparasion. Graphics, less Bugs, Different and cooler weapons and armor, more unique voice actors, etc.

I seem to hold a different viewpoint from many here... To me, Skyrim has every appearance of wanting to dabble a little bit in all of the prior TES games - though certainly with a bias towards the more recent one - but still be something clearly apart from prior iterations. They're doing enough 'new' things with it, from the leveling and combat to the crafting and dragon shouts, that Skyrim looks like it will be its own beast rather than any combination of prior games.
