Im not completely sure what you mean by asking this...but if your asking if it will be a leveless system, then no, we still level. Do you HAVE yo? No, if you dont mind not doing anything. :)

you level up focusing on particular skills, the more you poor into that Skill the faster you level up.

as for sleeping there was no mention of that.

Do you have to? Probably not unless its like the shrine quests in Oblivion.
Do your characters lv up? Yes, i really hope your not against the idea.

I don't think they've said that you will still sleep to level. Sounds more like it's going to be in the background, but you can choose your H/M/S bonuses and your perks whenever you feel like it.

I'm asking if we can remain at a level if we want to.

No I support the idea. I just don't want to be forced to become a higher level if I don't want to

From what I've read i don't it'll be like before where you could just not sleep, I think it'll be more like fallout where if your not in battle it happens as soon as you get the lv up and are safe.
At the same time I don't think anyone will have a problem with lv.ing up anymore since lv. scaling will be alot better if it was what it was like in fallout 3 if that makes you feel any better :)

I hope we still level up after sleep and it isn't like Fallout.

I don't even think it will be like that. I think you will level up in the background, as Todd said you could potentially go through the entire game without ever looking at the stat screen. I guess that would mean you can accumulate a lot of H/M/S bonus points and perk points to distribute whenever you feel like it.

Sounds alot like Dragon Age, espically now that we have perk trees. How do you think the menus will work since you know more about this then me? If you've played it do you think it will be smilar to DA:O?

Why on earth would you not want to level up? This is not going to be like Oblivion where delaying a level up will give you some sort of advantage. The advantages will occur because you take that step, gaining new abilities and improving on old ones.

Yes, there will be perks in a tree like DA2, but ultimately the experience will not feel anything like dragon age game because there is no XP from quests, etc.

You cast spells, use your weapons, block, etc., and that increases your skill levels. As your skills increase, your character level increases and perks become unlocked in the various perk trees.

Only played da:o for a few hours, got past like the first major city and got bored, can't quite remember the level up system. From what they've said, it sounds like you will press a menu button, then from there press left for magic and magical equipment, right for inventory, down for map, up for the skill screen that we've seen in the screenshot. I think that you will be choosing perks at the skill screen, not a menu that pops up when you level up like fo3. The only other thing I know is that when you're at the skill screen, you can "push in to reveal more detail." I think this means that if you click while highlighting a skill, you get a zoomed in view of the perk tree. This combined with Todd's comment about being able to play through the whole game without looking at the stat screen makes me think they've gotten rid of the sleep to level up requirement.

But the level up in the background, choose bonuses/skills whenever you get around to it mechanic is pretty common in a lot of RPGs, wouldn't be surprised if that's how DA works or how Skyrim will work.

Yes, I've played Tes before, I'm talking about the acctual menus not gameplay since we have that whole constellation thing going on now.
edit- we do still pick our own perks though right we dont just unlock them with level?

Oh and sorry OP not trying to derail your orginal topic.

From everything I've seen, it appears that we will level up at a breakneck pace and have virtually no control over it.

judging from the screenshots, the constellations will be similar to the perk trees in DA2 in a graphical sense, but the perks that I have heard about so far sound like they will be very different in nature.

Some of the spells will be a bit more similar because you can cast "glyph" spells, which you could not do in Oblivion

Yeah we will get to choose whatever perks we want, but I don't think we will be forced to choose a perk at level up but can rather choose them whenever we feel like it

leveling up should not effect you in any negative way.. it's not like you can't have fun if you level from 1 to 2. I really don't see the issue.

I have a suspicion that it's out, though. They're trying to fix the fact that people could go through Oblivion without ever leveling. It played a part in the new leveling system. So would they keep something as simple as not sleeping to get around leveling?

Either we sleep to level, or we automatically level like in Fallout, personally I hope for the former.

I prefer to get more than 20 hours out of a character. Since the game gets boring when the character is maxed out, that means that I have to get as much as I can out of the levels before that point. And that means that I have to try to level up slowly.

Well I dunno what the issue is then because I get 20 hours at least out of every character I play. Never felt that the game got boring when I became good at something.. if that is the case then just up the difficulty? Even so, there are so many other skills you can work on if you have maxed another one. Or create a new character? I guess people play for different reasons.. I guess the more important question would be whether or not you are a combat type of person or something else or a combination of the two. What do you consider to be fun in TES?
