I have so many problems with Skyrim!

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:06 am

Like the title says, I personally have SO many things that I would change about Skyrim. Despite this I enjoy playing the game, quite a lot. One of the best I've played in a long time. The thing that completely destroys my gameplay in Skyrim is this though:

I keep having the urge to restart. I make a badass character, play it for a few days, Love it!! Then suddenly don't feel like playing it anymore.. Make a new one... Sometimes I go back to my old characters.. but usually its starting from scratch again, make him or her a little bit different... I have about 3 level 10s and a bunch of level 5's. I had this problem with Morrowind for a long time too, played 14 hour days for an Entire school holidays (when I was at school) and had a bunch of level 5s.

Why did you make the game so that I wanted to do everything in every way Bethesda? Why did you do this to me?

That's a problem with you, not with the game! Elder Scrolls Syndrome. :)

Give up on the idea of being the best... you don't need to be the best to enjoy this game.

Try then to create some sense for ur character. Lets say u try some sort of Paladin character. What would a Paladin do / not do - ie, do u think he should loot, kill randomly? Would he choose any Thief / Mage quest ar all? How would he solve some specific quests, by talking or by killing? This approach worked fine by me in Oblivion.

It seems that Bethesda's story writing skills get poor and poor, since it is easy for people to feel bored by what they call 'free form'.

Haha yeah I know.. I create backstories etc, been playing role playing games for ages. Thanks for the advice though, sometimes I do get too caught up in a quest to keep role playing through the whole thing.

But yeah. Of course it's my problem. I'm taking the piss.

As for my other problems, they include the scaling based on level, balancing for mages etc, some of th ebugs but I really don't care.

I find it quite funny that people are so used to people that actually WOULD complain about the game having too much content etc that they think I'm serious.

It's a good game, and I guess I just have to find my rythem. I'll get there eventually, I did with Morrowind.

I had this problem the first couple days, You just have to find that character you like the most and stick with it.

I tend to do this with just about all games. I start one, but then once I have the hang of the mechanics and see how things work, I start over. But I'm not really one who cares about finishing a game - yes, there are some of us out there! I can really love a game, but after a while I tend to get tired of it, so I'll stop playing and play something else. When I finally go back to it, I just feel like starting it over again. It's not a "problem" because not everyone gets the same satisfactions from playing games. Some just want to go from start to finish and find their sense of accomplishment and satisfaction there. Others might think, "I really enjoyed this part, so much so that I think I'll do it again." I think most people end up abandoning characters and trying again, and if you do it a lot, there's nothing wrong with that. At some point maybe you'll think "This is as close to perfect as I can get" and then move on; if not, and you enjoy what you're doing, go for it and don't worry about what other people may think about how you play.

Trying to play the most "efficient" way ruins the games for me. Just try to build a character you like, he doesn't have to be perfect in everything.

I had that problem with morrowind. I wanted to do everything, see everything and be everything all at once. It literally took me a couple years to finally sit down and complete the game. It's like I had so many options I didn't know what to do. And restarting over and over actually made me bored of the game and quit playing it. You have to force yourself past a point of no return. Where giving up on a character that you've invested so much time in would just be idiotic. Once your to that point and can see how much progress you've made you won't want to jump into a new character without finishing up the one you have.

The good thing about going through an entire first playthrough with one character it makes it an easier choice for what type of character you want to go through with the second playthrough and how to advance the story and quests faster then your first time through.

I give my characters flaws. It adds depth and gives them personality. My orc mage doesn't have the most mana, but he's a blast to play. Same with the redguard assassin.

I'm not sure how Bethesda's game design is responsible for your psychological makeup.
