Look down. Do you see more then your legs? Yes.
Although peripheral vision is not going to be implemented because you are looking at a screen.. even without it you can see more then your legs.
But yes looking down and seeing more then the ground would be amazing.

I think they should put this in. That would be nice, and yeah, it would be just as easy/hard to do in this 'RPG' as any FPS. Halo did it, they can do it.

This is definitely something I've wanted for a while. It especially bothers me when I'm standing on a ledge or a cliff and I really can't tell how far away from the edge I am and end up falling...

But other than that, I would add so much immersion to be able to look down and see not just my legs, but my body. I would be pretty disappointed if this wasn't in the final game :(

I like legs in first person games. (i didn't say FPS because there are some first person games out there with legs that aren't shooters.) Thinking of having it in Skyrim sort of makes me think of Condemned Criminal Origins. That was a melee combat heavy first person perspective game, the way they describe how they are reworking blocking makes me think of it as well.
It'd be awesome, I would love Bethesda even more if they added legs in, but I wont hold my breath, I don't think they will.

I'd like to be able to see most of the front of my body, just as I can in real life. I mean, I can't really see my clavical when I look down but I can see the rest of the front of me. So we should be able to do the same in-game. It should be a piece of cake to implement for those computer geniuses at BGS.

Todd said in an IGN interview or a podcast that they're still using NIF's to create their meshes. That being said, with NIFs the body can be broken up, so when you're in first person you wouldn't have to render the head or the chest...because you can't see those. It was kind of like this in Oblivion except they rendered the arms strictly.

I know this because theres a console command which allows you to use a free-roam camera...you could use it to leave your character and if you left in first person you could see what your character looks like in first person.

It looked pretty scary. :P

So its totally possible for them to do this.

Halo 1 didn't.

I'm pretty sure it was Reach that added it.

Halo 2, actually. I remember being so happy when I realized I could shoot my legs... twas' so fun ;)

I'd like to see this. I got sick of looking down from my horse and seeing an empty saddle and only the horse's shadow.
1st person shadows and legs FTW!

God, yes. Not seeing your body in vehicles and animals looks soooooooo wrong. Just think about how the airboat mission in hl2 looked. Ridiculous - you're just some boat being driven by a phantom camera or something.

You can get both if you move the make a camera view, where the 3rd person camera is moved exactly to the head of the player. Then change the animations to look okay from that view. And there you go, full-body awareness and character shadows in something that looks like 1st person.

The issue with this is making the animations good. Like when you're staggered, your arm must not clip with the camera view, etc etc. But with some work put on it, this shouldn't really be any problem.

I honestly just see it as a waste of resources. It's not entirely necessary. I mean, how often are you going to look down while you're walking? If you want to see yourself walking go to 3rd person.

Well, how about this: With dynamic shadows, surely you yourself want to cast a shadow? If you're casting a shadow you're going to need something to cast it off - here comes your body model.

i wouldn't mind seeing it, but i'd like it to be able to turn off. A mod in morrowind i played added in walking animations to 1st person and it made me a little motion sick. I seen a mod for oblivion that did what your talking about, but it didn't look very good the camera sorta jiggered around, but i'm sure bethesda would do a better job

Halo 2 was the first game I recall doing it, and in Halo, you are jumping out of spaceships and trying to land on someones head so you can punch it, so you see your feet often, not as much when you are running through a forest in a TES game. Regardless, a few other games have done it, and they have all looked pretty bad, so I'd rather have nothing then something bad, and hopefully there will be a bunch of armours, giving the excuse of having too much to render, as there would be more detail in first person then in third.

But if it was done well, of course I would want it.

Jurassic park: Tresspasser was the first game I know of that included it. In fact, the only way to check your health in that game was to glance down at your cleavage. Odd game design.

Almost no features are togglable. Only certain common features are togglable, like crosshair.
If you'd have to turn it off, it would probably be have to be done through a mod, like with any other feature.

I think the dragons might be a bit embarresed if they get defeated by a floating camera with arms

To the ones saying it's a waste of resources... The thing is, they're already there (the legs I mean) so it's not like they have to add some legs to the game. They just have to make the camera see your junk when you look down. ;)

Anyhow if I have a character with hot legs, it might be distracting. :P So maybe it's a bad idea. ;)

Tell that to basically almost everyone on TESNexus that has a girl character with H-cup boobs and some kind of thong-armor.
Might be generalizing, but it's kinda true in a lot of cases...

Anyway, if you find it distracting... don't make a hot character? :P
Or wear armor or clothes. It's not like you're gonna run around naked in cold Skyrim are you!?

My character will. It's simple physics, you see... The less a girl wears, the hotter she is.

Why does it has to be a she? And why hot? I don't see the reason...
Could someone please tell me?

My character will likely be fully plated at all times. Still want to see my stompers on the ground. ^^

I don't remember the exact quote, but there was an old tongue-in-cheek "rule" for Fantasy RPGs that said something along the lines of "the protection a piece of armor provides for a female is inversely proportional to the amount of coverage". (which is generally followed by someone joking "so if I was naked, I'd be invulnerable?" )

It all really traces back to pulp adventure novel covers, Frazetta & Boris Vallejo paintings, etc.... of course, back in the day, they also painted guy warriors (like Conan) in just a loincloth, too, so it was kind of equal opportunity. :)

But in the end, the http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChainmailBikini is pretty much just http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Fanservice.

I'm guessing we've already got into the whole cleavage part of discussion considering how most of these threads end up with some of the female population against it because they don't want to see their character's bosom.

I would just like to see my leggs and it feels immersive than just being a floating ball. I'm sure there could be some kind of toggle option for people who don't want to look down at their bodies or something if implemented. Halo did a good job with this with just showing up to the thighs and I would be content with that.

I like be able to base difficult jumps without having to switch to 3rd person to make an accurate jump.

That's actually a really good functional reason to implement it: I'd forgotten how many times I'd either jumped too early and consequently not made it or just run straight off the edge of a precipice in Oblivion due to not being able to judge the best time to jump. Some of the Ayleid ruins were quite impractical to explore if you didn't switch to 3rd person...

I wouldn't mind being able to see more than just your hands in first person. It would be neat if you could look past the 90o limit when looking up and down.
