So I have played my heavy modded game and all is well...

Hello,
...until a few days ago when load times began to slow down. Now it takes almost a min to load a save spot .... So it must be the mods cause it's NOT my hardware. I decided to do an uninstall and start from scratch. I have read several articles about this and I do know that I have to uninstall the client and erase all files and saves and ...etc.... I'm sure u get the picture...

So since it take a long time to dl the client from steam, I decided to read some more and stumbled on this.

It's from another forum but was posted yrs ago if I'm not mistake. Is this still viable. Will I be able to play then modded vanilla game if I follow this?

"Instead of reinstalling, try returning the game to it's vanilla state. Rename the data folder to something else (oldata or whatever you choose) then create a new Data folder and COPY do not move the following files back into the new data folder.

Music (folder)
Shaders (folder)
Video (folder)
Credits.txt - probably not needed
Fallout-MenuVoices.bsa
Fallout-Meshes.bsa
Fallout-Misc.bsa
Fallout-sound.bsa
Fallout-Textures.bsa
Fallout-Voices.bsa
Fallout3.esm

That should put the game back to it's original pre mods state. Now start the game and make a save. (its a PITA waiting through all of the intro cut scenes but wait if you must)
Now start adding mods, ONE at a time and testing between each one,

Comments pls
Thanks
Aji

That should work.

Note, next time, or if this gives you a vanilla game back that works, use Steam to make a Local Backup of the game, then you can restore from the back up without downloading. Then you can install your mods.

Also, if you miss one thing doing what you propose, you can have Steam Verify the Integrity of the Local Cache, and hopefully that will only download the parts that need to be included.

Or, if you used a Mod Manager to install the mods, then you can use that mod manager to uninstall (not disable) the mods, that should remove the content you added.

There are a few ways to fillet this molerat.

The increasing loading times are just what a modded New Vegas does. Like crashing :hehe: When the loading times increase to minutes, it's actually quicker to quit and restart the game. For whatever reason the loading time after starting the game seems to stays the same.

Just have to live with it, or go without mods. Still, it usually takes several dozen hours for the loading times to get so long you need to quit and restart.

Thanks for the reply. I will back up everything and follow what was suggested and hope that it works.
I do use a mod manager. NMM. Here is another question:
So like u said , use NMM to uninstall...
*** ( I suppose that's the same as, using mod manager, uninstall the loaded mods by (in the case of NMM ) selecting the mod in the list (while in the mods tab) and clicking it so it uninstalls and puts a red "X" mark next to it, right? Then I suppose I go to the plug in tab just to make sure that the plug ins that the mod used when installed are unchecked right? Or does it do that automatically when you uninstall the mod by deselecting it in the mod tab?
What about mods that I need to load manually? There were a few of them but don't actually remember which one without looking at nexus mod web page. How do I get rid of those?
I have also used FNvedit to generate merged patches.... I suppose I just disable them, right?
Finally, I have had to change some ".ini" settings... So what do I do with that?

Lol... When I started moding fonv a few weeks ago, I thought I was gonna be a hard learning curve. Turns out it's as easy as easy can get if one just reads, understand and follows everything about the mod. Uninstalling them to get your game back to vanilla (original) mode, however, seem a LOT more complicated if one did not backup the entire game file BEFORE modding the game.... I wish I read about that, BEFORE I started modding....

Thanks. As the game progresses and quest and side stuff gets done, the load times are getting to the 60sec mark and I haven't even decided to attack the legion yet (oh and I will soon enough). I guess the load slow downs started when I installed and did q's for bounty 1 and 2. Did so many of them one after the other that, I think it could be the mod that slowed the load times, but I can't be really sure. Besides, the bounty series is quite entertaining if not so damm easy even in the hardest mode (oh and I do not use any mods that gives me an unfair advantage, I even don't choose to use "abilities" that comes with some mods that I installed for some other reason simply because I think a lot of those "abilities" seriously unbalances the game to the players advantage.) if the load times goes beyond the minute mark, then I will follow your advice and just restart and reload.

No you don't. You can uninstall the game from the Steam menu, and if there happens to be any files left over after that, then you erase those. And you don't have to do anything with the client at all.
