I have a question about Faendal in Skyrim...

I'm new to Elder Scrolls video games. The first Bethesda game I've ever played is Fallout 3 (great game, btw)...

I bought Skyrim about a week ago...went to Riverwood and met Faendal, who told me to give a fake letter to this girl and say its from this guy Sven (apparently the men are quarreling over her). Well, I did what he said and gave it to her--and as a result Faendal is now my follower.

A couple of days later, I realized I could change what armor and weapon Faendal uses. I noticed that he would usually wear the armor with the most damage resistance and use the weapon that was the most powerful. Ok...cool. So I figured I'd mess around and have him try different types of clothing/armor to see what "looks" best on him.

Not sure what I did exactly, but I made faendal mostly armorless--by this I mean he's only wearing an iron helmet, iron boots, iron gauntlets, and a silver necklace. So basically, besides the armor I just mentioned, he is showing mostly skin. You can see his chest and his legs...and his private parts are just covered up with a white tunic looking cloth lol. I thought this was hilarious and decided to explore the map with him mostly naked (I chose an Argonian--I wear battle gear--coulda gone the naked route, too, but didn't).

I learned through friends to save constantly in case a glitch occurred...soooo the other day I went to a previous save and was just trying something different. I got to the part where I (again) picked up Faendal as a follower. Well this time when I tried to switch his armor around to where he's bare chested again....I realized that I couldn't do it!!!! Everytime I tried to take all his gear, he ends up wearing his green tunic that you first see him in when you meet him.

Weird...I then read a few skyrim forums online and found out that all followers have default apparel and weapons. So if I take all of his gear, he will still have his original green tunic and a weapon.

So how the hell did I get him (mostly) nvde in the first place???!? Has anyone else been able to do this? BTW, I have an Xbox 360. I think I created him this way BEFORE these 2 patches came out (the ones people have been complaining about) so it can't be that. I DO recall experiencing that glitch where you go inside Faendal's house and when you look to your left once you're inside the ground is missing and I actually "fell" through the hole in the floor a couple of times before I decided to just leave the house (I came back a moment later and everything in Faendal's house was back to normal). So maybe this glitch has something to do with why I'm able to get him to wander around with barely any clothes on???? Please let me know if any of you guys have experienced this or if you know how to. Or at least give a possible explanation. It would appear that once I took all his stuff he should have a default tunic to wear. But somehow I was able to bypass that to the point to where its skin to the wind haha! Please respond people...I'm dying to hear a logical explanation to this. I hope I explained this right--my spelling and grammar can be bad. Oh and apologies to those if this sounds a bit x rated! :)

Well, it's a Beth game. Logical explanation: A glitch.
The engine is full of things like that, and you should have seen some of these things in Fallout 3 as well.

Yes, followers have a default clothing setup, and yes, they will wear it if you take all their stuff or only give them armour inferior to what their default is. E.g. Lydia will keep her Steel Armour (?), I think, even if you give her Fur Armour or something, but she will wear better stuff like Plated Armour.

So yeah, the engine probably bugged out and lost track of Faendal's default clothing at that point.

I have a problem with him too. He disappeared. :( I lost him somewhere in the snowy northern part of the map. I can't recruit any new followers because the game still thinks he is with me. He had a few good weapons and some dragon bones/scales that are now gone because he is MIA. I thought maybe he went back to Riverwood but he wasn't there. I bought the house in Whiterun but he hasn't gone back there either. He's just gone with all my stuff.
