I have seen several people post that Magicka isn't regenerating during combat except at the slowest speed.

But I have robes 100% and a mask 100% and a 50% ring and my magicka in combat regenerates fairly quickly - much quicker than if I take off the items.

Have others experienced the correct regeneration?

This had been argued back and forth and I wish we could get confirmation on it

From what I read on uesp, magicka refills at 33% of the rate it would outside of combat.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Magicka

"The rate of magicka regeneration is influenced by your character's maximum magicka. A larger maximum pool allows a larger amount of magicka to be restored over the same amount of time. Magicka also regenerates more slowly in combat, with a multiplier of 0.33.
Magicka regenerates at a base rate of 3% per second (out of combat), which can then be further enhanced by enchanted items or standing stones with bonuses to it, shown as percent increases to the base rate. For example, wearing a robe with a 100% bonus to magicka regeneration rate would boost the total rate to 6% per second; wearing an additional item granting another 100% bonus would raise the total rate to 9% per second."

I can confirm this. +Regeneration equipment definitely helps in drawn-out battles.

I have also read this, its a simple test to figure out. Just grab a lot of regen enhancement gear. Actually, just a set of +75% regen robes will be fine, engage fight with a badit. Deplete all magicka but do not kill him, use your phone, a stopwatch, whatever you want, to time how long it takes to regnerate all your magicka back. Burn off all magicka again and slip on your regen robes and start the time again. It sounds like a pain to do but who knows. I'll test it out in one second and let you know if it works.

It just seemed that many who were playing pure mages said they were out of mana and had to 'run around' all the time. I can face mobs of 5-8 and I have to kite a little but my mana stays pretty fair in its regeneration.... with my warrior if I get mobbed, I have to drink potions of health/stamina while I slice/dice - which to me is sort of the exchange with my mage for 'kiting' (since I try not to svck down mana potions too often)....

I roleplay and don't abuse anything... so I find the game a challenge but my mana rarely seems to run totally out with multiple enemies left....

I was just curious.... b/c I delayed playing a pure mage after reading those posts but now I'm level 17 and having a lot of fun (yes, I know people might have meant on Master and post level 40+)... my 30th level warrior was more challenged to stay alive usually ..... he had full-perked dual wield with Mace of Molag Bal and Dawnbreaker and was fun but also had to use potions a fair bit with bosses.

Not trying to restart any debates - was just wondering if there was a bug in the game.

The results are in ( as if the people above havnt confirmed the fact that wearing bonus regeneration gear does help in combat). I tested a level one character. 100 magicka pool. Burned it completely dry and started a time ( all while engaged by a bow wielding bandit) I time 1 minute on a stop watch and by that time my magicka had renegerated to 62 points (the extra 2 points could be a delay of perfect synchronization between starting the timer and). I left the same bandit alive and burned off the excess magicka again. Same 1 minute timer, this time I slipped on my +50% robes from the dungeon. After the minute had expired, my magicka pool was regenerated to 90. So if I regen 60 per minute on level 1 without any robes or perks ect, for anyone who can't math good ( I said it like that on purpose :P) 50% of the #60 is 30. So when I add the 30 points to the 60, it equals out to the results of the +50% regen rate robes. So it is true (I've been rambling for far too long) that having an additional regeneration rate with robes or enchants ect, do carry into battle. Horray for logic and testing! :)

Your magicka regen rate is actually percentile-based, not point-based. It takes the same amount of time to recharge whether you have 100 magicka or 500, which means that deep pools recharge more points-per-second. The normal rate is 3% per second, but in combat all regeneration is one third normal, so you were seeing 1% per second regeneration without bonuses and 1.5% per second with bonuses. With a magicka pool of 100 that translates into 1 and 1.5 magicka per second respectively. A high level mage with 500 magicka would see 5 and 7.5 magicka per second respectively. Whatever percentage you increase your magicka pool by, that is how much your effective magicka-per-second recovery will increase by as well. Something to think about when you are enchanting. :)

Yeah, I enjoy the percent based factor. I knew it was percent based going into the experiment, only learned that it was percent based a week ago though haha, the only reason I listed the my magic was 100 was so people wouldn't be asking me what it was and so they would know about the regen rate since 100 is a good number to represent stuff out of. I think so anyway :P

If this is true it seems like fortifying magicka would be better than fortifying magicka regen, don't ya think?

we should prly make a sticky on this heehe, asked and answered alot :P

but answering again, regeneration is about half when engaged in combat, and stops entirely while casting/channeling.

Fortify magic would increase both your starting mana pool AND up your magicka regen because it's % based.

And fortify the magic skill (eg destruction) so that it costs much much less mana to use is a better thought still. If you have a healthy mana pool and 75% magicka reduction you can go a lot further than just putting magicka regen. The in combat multiplier is too harsh a penalty. I don't like kiting things around (esp with the BAD pathing AI) to get a full mana pool. I'd rather fight until one of us dies.
