I have a severe case of restartitis.

While I don't suffer as much from it in Skyrim. It seems to be a bigger deal for me with Oblivion.

I recently came back to Oblivion. And I gotta say, it all felt very fresh again after so long. I also installed Oblivion Character Overhaul V2 to deal with that potato head issue. I don't have any body mods though. (I find vanilla fine as it is.)

Either way, that aside. I still seem to take an absurd long time to come up with a character. There's so much different ideas flowing through my head. I assume it's because Oblivion is a bit overwhelming for me at this moment, that I don't know what I am exactly looking for.

I guess restartitis is pretty common for alot of people, especially with games like these. So, are any of you people familiar with this?

Not me, nope. I only start four or five characters a week. I used to have restartis though. :D

Maybe I just need to sleep a night about it.

I got several ideas, so I'll try to sort them out and see what makes me more excited.

I start quite a few, too. It's because I keep having new inspirations. Maybe one out of five characters lasts more than a day or two, and probably one in twenty actually goes on to have a real "story."

But that "one in twenty" has amounted to quite a few good fun characters, over the years.

I don't throw any of them away. Sometimes, a month or two later, I'll remember so-and-so, who just got out of the sewer, and their story will suddenly take shape. I think some ideas need to ripen a while before they're ready. :)

I've never had restartitis, and have no advice to give, ferrykeizer, but it's good to see you back.

Yeah. I get your point.

Right now, two of my ideas seem to excite me the most.

-One being a Neopagan inspired huntress. A wood elf, I'd figure. (Just got the crazy idea of using Neopaganism as an element for RP after listening to Folk music. :D) Though I fear the character would bore me quickly, that there wouldn't be enough for him/her to do.

-The other one being this rather Gothic inspired figure. I imagined her to be this elegant maiden in Black Finery from The Shivering Isles. (Because damn, those dresses look freaking badass. Despite the clipping issues I get with the skin when the character walks.) Though I'm not sure what skills I'd like to use. Everytime I think I got an idea, I already change my mind five seconds later.

Even the most little things can make me reconsider and add another day of thinking about my decisions...

You've got two ideas, just roll with them both. Take turns with each game, that's what I've been doing for years. There's no way I could just roll with one, maybe that how I avoid restartitis.

I don't even consider therapy until it gets to 4 or 5 restarts per minute. :twirl:

I've been using this;

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=74

Since it first came out, it skips to the exit sewer with a chest that contains most of the items you would have picked up by going through the whole embarrassing episode watching The Blades screw up (you had ONE JOB, protecting the Emperor) which I really don't need to see over and over. There are note screens summarizing the events, and at some point after exiting the sewers you'll get assaulted by one or more of the Mythic Dawn assassins even if you've already dumped the amulet of kings. When you click on the sewer exit door you need to choose race birthsign and class, but the whole process takes only a minute or two to create a new character.

I've been playing Oblivion for so many years that I already have a good idea what I like to play as, but since my main hobby is modding games I spend more time with the construction set than actually playing the game itself. Most new cells, weapons, armor, spells, enchantments, and textures don't require restarting the game, but some do require a restart to work correctly so I do a lot of restarting.

You can never tell. I've had a very simple character going for ages. My Wild Elf has never done a quest, never enters cities, and rarely talks to NPCs. She's a simple hunter, surviving in the wild, and playing with what she finds there. She collects the shoes/boots of all the bad guys she kills, and has them stashed in various hiding places all around Cyrodiil.

That's really all there is to the character, but she's a lot of fun to just play, without worrying about any goals, and sometimes that's exactly what I need. :)
