I have an TES: Crusade Rp idea?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:52 am

I've been reading up on my Crusade history, and suddenly a Light Bulb flashed when I was reading a book about that time, and then suddenly I started thinking of a TES style Crusade Rp. I have'nt finished the whole back story, to why anyone is going on a Crusade, but I hope to have the back story finished soon.

Anyway, I was wondering what all of you would think of having a Crusade style Rp, and if you'd join?

Maybe? It matter's on the story line. I'm not much of a TES Lore buff by any means, but I would probably join?

Like stated above, the actual story is a pretty big deciding factor in whether or not the RP gets many members, including me.

However, I have lately been thinking of a Knights of the Nine-esque RP, and if you can provide something vaguely like that, I will certainly give it my full consideration.

If it has a good story, good plot, and good relation to the TES universe lore wise then yes. But only if the story is filled out and detailed, not if its a mere two paragraphs or less.

I did one which failed because alot of people didn't really keep on task and ended up doing alot of random crap which prompted me to start my Timeline. I could give you some tips if you wanted to but it's probably one of the hardest types of "war RP" you can do.

Take his advice. He's made one of the most successfull war class RP on this forums from my knowlege. Its on its 13th thread so far and still going, and its probably going to have another 46 if it goes all the way, which i dont doubt it will.

Sounds like it will be an inevitable invasion of either Hammerfall or Elsweyr, since the desert terrain makes the Crusade... Perhaps a khajiiti Civil War is in order, with the cosmopolitan South raiding the "savage" north? It would be possible to dig up some reason one faction would invade the other.

Valenwood would be just as good a candidate if we're ripping off history here. Valenwood = Lithuania, Crusaders, probably Cyrodiilians or Bretons = Teutons. I was actually thinking of doing an RP about that some months ago before deciding I was far too lazy to host an RP.

I wouldn't be all that bothered if it wasn't too linked to lore.

Maybe an idea is just going to a whole new island somewhere and fighting for the Nine on a holy crusade against the new heretics who threaten the Nine Divine. But really it is just a conspiracy to get all of the riches and gold their. Sound familiar? Maybe if you could give this mysterious new island a decent history and put in some good background then it would attract a good crowd. Or you could just choose an existing province in the game and include some background their.

Anyways theres my idea but I'll join if you can make it interesting either way.

Heading away from the 'Crusade' idea, but I'd love to RP in something moderately like Cortez' war against the Aztec Empire, where a small group of professionals with some or another advantage over the natives, i.e. firearms to bluntly rip history off or superior mages or some such, would have to war against a seemingly huge and mighty empire that in truth would be a paper tiger since many other native tribes and cities would be predisposed against them. Could do for some interesting stuff for both sides' RPers.

I was playing Total War: Kingdoms Americas expansion a while ago doing just that! :P And I thought of having far down the timeline an RP where fire arms may be more prevelant and they try explore Argonia or Pyandonia (or whatever it is called.)

Actually, I was thinking of that very same expansion while typing that, thinking how all the native American factions seem to jump on top of the Aztecs on the first opportunity they get. After posting that I proceeded to think how it could be fun to have to do some tasks to convince the guys back home to ship more troops over, like discovering silver/gold mines or some such.

Akavir invasion from teh south into Elsweyr! Oh Noes!!

Or advancing Tamriel to steampunk tech and have them invade Akavir again. Take that, snake-people! Wait... I think an Imperial invasion of an Aztec snake people was the trigger plot to Warlords Battlecry 3... which is the ultimate Generic Fantasy Land RTS series... so yeah...

If this is moving towards steampunk... have a look at this http://www.freewebs.com/evil-pigeon/index.htm this is the largest rp I've ever made with the best and most detailed plot. Needless to say it has never got going :D (Don't read all of it, just the history and tech sections... it breaks the character limit on most of the sites I've tried to post it on :P )
Any way the point is I've expanded Tamriel quite thoroughly in there so you might want to have a look for ideas...
The americas idea would be fun... are we talking a war rp here?

When making an RP plenty of people fall into the trap of writing a fan fic and then "okay guys now you add some." Which is what most RPs are. What is most important in an RP is actually NOT the storyline, but the structure. Like Siege of Sentinel has a pretty basic story line. !Redguard rebellion oh noez! What has made it successful is the structure which has been put in place. If you can keep people involved by giving them proper borders and goals, you'll have a good RP. Writing an RP with an overly complex story is like having a car with a really big engine that is hooked up inefficiently. Looks impressive when you look at it, but it isn't going to last.

This is the basic story outline I did for my crusader RP that failed. Basically I made it post Oblivion and Cyrodiil split into two, the Colovians and the Nibenese each forming their own country. With no heir they fought one another for who ruled the Imperial City. So Ocato who had become a pope like figure in cyrodiil called a crusade to regain Morrowind in order to decide who would be the next emperor and to gain Morrowind which has large deposits of valuable minerals.

There were two main factions. Cyrodiil and Morrowind.

Cyrodiil had Colovia and Nibenay sub factions.

Morrowind had the five houses.

Then I gave the crusaders four or so targeted cities and they were on their way for the first wave of the crusade.

Well the mistake i made is that I split up my Role Player base. When you do that it doesn't create alot of interaction. It's like a storm, if the clouds are seperate there is no lightning. You want them close to make some sparks. But if you have them too close and too many RPers are in one scene then it over runs over another and you also run into problems. About 4-6 RPers per scene depending on the scale is proper. 2 people RPing at each other for longer than half a page is going to be a problem if the RPers are not dedicated and can not write at length.
