Have they removed the chance at being unsuccessful when harv

How do you 'fail' at picking up a plant anyway?
I think it will most likely be gone, as it seems like they have taken it from how it was in Fallout: New Vegas where you pick it up 100% everytime and the plant disappears.

I wonder if this flower has any seeds. Oh, I checked it and it did not. I should check some other flowers.

Except lots of them make no sense. Mushrooms for example. or when you're picking the entire flower.

It can be done. Maybe the plant isnt exactly what you thought, or isnt ripe enough/ Maybe its too ripe? Maybe you harvested the wrong part of the plant?

I do agree it was a tad ridiculous in Oblivion sometimes, but I could see a refining process for extracting a material failing. I'm just glad it won't take a mod to see if something has been harvested this time.

I'm just glad to see the plant will actually disappear when picked, not like in Oblivion where you needed a mod to be able to do that.

Have you ever gone mushroom hunting? If the damn thing isn't ready to be picked, it'll either be useless/make you sick because it wasn't ready or it'll crumble into little pieces because it was to late. Finding a fair amount of good mushrooms can take up half of a day and even then you won't walk away with more than a small plastic bag full.

I hope so. If I can see it, I should be able to harvest it. How can one fail to pick up a mushroom? If the seasonal harvest chance is 0, the plant/mushroom should be disabled. If not by default, there's always mods.

Yes you could go technical and say that "some plants may not be ripe" or some [censored], but really the game doesn't have to be that realistic, this is the case of too much realism can be hurtful to the entertainment of the game IMO.

They should change it so that it makes better sense for people without imaginations.

"This plant is damaged"
"This plant is underdeveloped"

etc.

Of course there's ways to fail at harvesting.

You can accidentally crush the specimen you're harvesting. You can pick the wrong part by accident. You can "check", and realize the plant lacks the specific parts you need.

There's nothing wrong with this feature. This isn't a game about seeding fields and sowing your harvest. You're gathering alchemical properties which you can combine to set people on fire.

Now, what would be REALLY cool is if you could fail in alchemy, and blow yourself up or something.

This^ whenever I tried picking flowers and shrooms. I always hated when it didn't register it.

"Buts its right [censored] there!" I would yell at no one in particular.

I guess people that say things like this live in a city and have never, ever gone mushroom, berry nor nut gathering.

It is perfectly possible and highly likely to fail at produce gathering.
Maybe it has a great big worm inside, maybe its too rotten or unripe or mouldy.

Especially for mushrooms, which need to be just right in their development, it is highly likely youll find mostly examples that arent any help at all.
Same with flowers.
Nature isnt a showroom.

Not everything grows perfectly formed, you know, and it is quite possible to hunt for, say, seeds, and fail quite a lot of the time.

In real life, yes, I know what you mean. But this is a game, so it's ok not to convolute such a simple task.

It's an RPG, the whole point is to make it not a sure thing. If anything should have a dice roll it should be tasks like harvesting. The only time it would make sense to argue against dice rolls is with stuff like swinging a sword and it determining whether you hit or not.

Why not?
Why must gathering an ingredient work every single time?

I would find a system where you have a chance to get an ingredient better than one that simply succeeds all the time.
Same as I prefer dice roll combat, armour degradation and all those other little 'convoluted' things, that when added all together make the game.
Sure, a lot of the intricacy of TES is gone, but I dont think it needs to be overexaggerated and permeate every single part of the game.
What is left of TES then?
An arcade game?

As it is, Skyrim has already removed too many of core RPG and TES features, I wouldnt want yet another thing to be gone.
