I have a habit of whistling which usually gets odd looks from people, however on the odd occasion I get a compliment. I also smile a lot, which unnerves a few of the people I live with - They don't understand why I'm often so happy.

Heh, I actually brought the illustrated version of A Brief History of Time to class for reading when I was in elementary school, and the teacher made a big fuss about not allowing books with pictures. My mom had to slap some sense into her that the "no pictures" policy probably shouldn't extend to books written by a leading theoretical physicist.
Woah, first of all, did you understand that when you were in elementary school? If so, I'm damn impressed!

Second, that teacher should have been baffled at the fact that you were reading a book by Stephen Hawking, not [censored]ing about it having pictures!

Some people never cease to amaze me.

Fallout+Nerd=OWNAGE if you live in adelaide the city of churches, you should know better, its rep is that it makes tasmania interesting, we have 2 public amenities one is locked because its the only clean one and that one you come out alive if you can get a key, and the other one, you dont enter unless you have an armfull of automatic weapons or at least unload a few hundred round into there first to make sure its clear.

But being looked at strangely or having comments made by certain groups of people isnt unusual, im in a regional centre and thats the norm here, generally if anyone where i live looks at me strangely or makes comments at me, it just reaffirms to me that im normal, because im always suprised that the knuckle draggers here arent still afraid of fire, wonder what that big ball of light is in the sky, arent worshipping a mishapen peice of rock, so its my general expectation that on any day im in public to get some sort of negative reaction.

A good example is a woman stopped at a shop they had cloth racks on the footpath, the store fronts onto the cities main street, its on a incline, she had a pram with a baby in it, she let it go to look through the clothes, the pram rolled off the path and onto the road, she wasnt paying attention at all, everyone else was just wandering by, i dived out grabbed the pram before it got hit, needless to say it was though i had done something completely stupid, so yes people are basically stupid no matter where you go.

Yup. All the time. Even on here. But you know what, if people can't accept me for who I am that's just too damn bad. I'm not gonna change because people label me how they feel. Perhaps, if they'd get to know me and get past my gruffness they'd realize I'm a pretty nice person to be around. But, people are shallow and if you don't fit into what they perceive as "normal" or "cool" you get labeled a "downer" or "mean" or "stupid" or any of the other negative labels those who perceive themselves better than you.
