Have you booked time off for release day?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 12:26 am

Yep, took the whole week. Trouble is, my wife and I are expecting twins by December, so I suspect I will have to spend most of my Fallout vacation week working on getting the house ready.

I usually take 2 weeks of vacation in November anyways, I just moved it up to start the second week of November rather than the first this year so I can enjoy Fallout 4.

The week of release is one of the busiest weeks of the month where I work, but I still asked for (and got) Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday off. Going to have to bust my ass at work Monday through Wednesday, which will be hard on Wednesday because I ~know~ that the evening of Tuesday the 10th I'm gonna already be playing Fallout-4.... at least the evening of the 11th (Wednesday night) it won't matter how late I stay up. :)

As a self-driven online student with no job, I'm working ahead in my courses so I can game few days (maybe even a whole week).

LOL nah, I just play on the weekends when I get the game. Like others have said already, I will take my sweet time with FO 4, I want to savor every moment and not rush through it!

Plus, I'm already taking time off during the Thanksgiving week (not for Fallout 4 lol). I'm going to visit my friend in Texas for Thanksgiving. We actually met online years ago, playing a free MMO, and we have been good friends ever since. So yea, I love being a gamer, because you meet so many awesome people and can make friends for life!

Awww congratulations! :) Yea, and after the twins are here, you will be far too busy to game! But what a blessing! I wish you and your wife all the best!

I've taken the 6th through the 12th off. Normally, I don't bother to take time off for a video game, but I have vacation time to burn, so it seems like as good a time as any. Also, because of the way my schedule works, I won't actually go back to work until the 16, so while I am officially off only until the 12th, I will actually have another 4 days to devote to it. I don't intend to go full hermit, though; I need to get out every once in a while just to stretch my legs and get out of the apartment.

No. I may play some hours after work, but the weekends is my main playing time.

I never book time off for game releases any more. There's no point; I'm a family man with a young child so if I did take the day off I'd be helping my wife with my daughter, whether it was planned to have time to myself or not. That's just how family life works. I get my time in the evening once little one is in bed regardless of what happens during the day.

To be honest even if I was single without a family I probably wouldn't bother booking it off. There's plenty of time in the evenings and weekends to play games. As much as I love games and as much of my free time is spent researching and tinkering with technology I have to do other things too. It was different when I was a teenager, but now I've grown up I just find I can't do those ridiculously long marathon sessions any more. I need to do other things and break it up, otherwise I just feel like I'm missing out on other things that I want in my life.

Replacing an actual vacation for a video game I can already play any day of the week seems like a waste of opportunity.

Yep it is happening. I have a somewhat decent employer. 5 weeks paid gives me a few days to schedule a couple for one of the few developers worth taking time off for.

The 11th is a paid holiday for me anyway.... so I am going to download while at work on the 10th and then start playing through my day off

Taking 3 days off of work and homework. I've waited way to long for this game to not ignorantly binge and enjoy for 3 straight days. October needs to be over now.

I′m on the same boat.Responsabilities come first. Two or three gaming hours on weekends will have to suffice.

There's no option for "I'm currently unemployed and thus don't need to take the day off".

I feel left out :(

It's still two months away you know, many days for a "release has been delayed until the beginning of next year"

Wasn't planning on asking for time off, as my vote was no and not planning to, but decided to ask for the 10th off as long as it didn't affect my hours or my place of work and I got it off. I love that the place I work at gave me a day off to play a video game (yes that was my reasoning for requesting the day off).

I'm self employed and work from the house. While having crappy insurance and no bemifts svcks; being able to take off at will is glorious.

Fallout 4 will be played the first few days after release with no work.

Now I must stay alive in real life the next 2 weeks!

I agree.

I remember playing skyrim continuously the first weeks, months, year when it came out.

I regret it because it made me tired and I think I could have enjoyed more of it, if I took more breaks to reflect.
