Have you done the MQ without fast travel?

Who has done the MQ with no fast-travel? Let's say that includes not using the carriages between towns but does allow for purchasing of horses.

I started a new character to experience the MQ again and right now I am at 13.5 hours and am just about to enter Ustengrav to retrieve the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Of course, I spent the first few hours wandering to get to a decent level before going to High Hrothgar.

I think a dedicated run through with just a few cave dives and some alchemy will take me 40-50 hours, but I might be way off so I was curious who has done the MQ with zero fast travel ^^

I did one recently. It was with a character that is already equipped and leveled and with 500 in stamina. Lot's of sprinting. No fast travel, horse, or carriage. I don't have any idea how long it took though.

I fast traveled twice in Oblivion back in March, 2006, when that game first came out. I've never fast traveled in Oblivion or Skyrim since then.

You see so much more when you don't fast travel. That said sometimes it's just way too far, so I do use things like carriages but i don't do the click and teleport usually.

You do see way more, and you get to know how the roads work as well. Of course the game is way more immersive. I always fast travel on initial play-throughs because I am too impatient :P

Yes. And I'm never doing it again. :stare:

At least not as a non-mage.

It definitely helped with immersion, up until you had to scale High Hrothgar fifteen thousand times. The first time was magical, and for my character, exhausting. Subsequent hikes were annoying to RP, especially when they involved going up to High Hrothgar for a few lines of dialogue, go back down for random crap, and back up again. From now on I'll RP that fast travel is Teleportation magic and only use it to travel up Snow Throat.

Road travel is amazing, as I've already said, and sometimes I do it whether or not I'm doing a RP. Although my game tends to crash around the area between Whiterun Hold and Eastmarch for some reason, so I have to be extra careful unless I want to repeat all that walking.

When I want to finish a quest, I use fast travel, when I want to just explore the lands, I don't use fast travel.

Well, I haven't actually finished the MQ yet but I'm in Blackreach at the moment after 200 hours without having used fast travel, so I think I'll make it. That included trips up to High Hrothgar until they ran out of word walls to send me after. I've broken up the MQ by doing plenty of other quests during it, so it isn't like I was just running back and forth up the mountain. The few times it did get a little boring I always seemed to get a glorious sunset or aurora and the view made it worth it. I know that overuse of fast travel completely ruins games for me, so I can resist the temptation.

all I can say is no carriage or fast travel for the MQ is going to involve a LOT of climbing of those stairs at a later portion of the MQ if you have Season Unending. Have fun :P

I rarely FT but that trip to HH is definitely an exception for me. I make the trip twice on foot, after that I FT from Ivarstead.

I have not done a playthrough without FT. It would be annoying to do during Season Unending I imagine.

It would either feel like a huge accomplishment or a giant waste of time lol

i dont consider carriages as a means of fast travel they are sort of realistic when it comes to visiting towns and cities though i dont use them at all i have completed MQ 3 times without fast travelling travelling on Horse is much better and saves time as well

I'm just the opposite: after having played the game over and over again by now, I find myself fast travelling more now than I did when I first started playing. Not that I've discovered nearly all of what Skyrim has to offer, I've just become more impatient to complete quests (and less prone to start the MQ), so that means more fast travelling. And even when I first played the game, that climb up High Hrothgar was too much after a couple of times and I always fast travelled there.

Well I am going to keep people posted on my MQ progress here with my time:

Wulf, level 17 Nord: hvy armour, 1H, block, smith, alchemy

Current time: 14:34

Current progress: in Riverwood to 'rent the attic room'

So no one has a ballpark figure of the MQ with 0% fast travel?

I don't think any of us could even begin to give an estimate that would mean anything to you. It's a sandbox game and our playstyles are all so different. Some of us stop to do other quests, some of us pick every Alchemy ingredient we can find in an entire Hold before we move on, some of us travel on roads, some of us travel through the wilderness only, some of us do the main quests consecutively, some of us space the quests out, ect, ect.

I've done the main quest twice without fast traveling. I don't remember how long it took because I was doing so many other things. But I'm sure it took well over 100 hours both times.
