Have you ever been really and truly scared from a video game

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:43 pm

Now, I'm one of those people who can sit through a horror movie and not be scared. I mean, I never got nightmares when I was little. But sometimes (like a few secods ago in Morrowind) in a video game, I get to a point where the game really freaks me out. I'm going into red mountain in morrowind for the first time, and I gotta say, I'm scared. It's a bunch of colored squares on a screen, I know, but the red sky just freaks me out. Same thing with oblivion gates. I never close any extra ones, and even then I run through them as fast as I can. When the sky turns red, I just think "Uh nope, I'm outta here, bro." This also happens when I go into a vault in any of the fallout games. Especially FO1 and 2, those really freak me out. I know it sounds sort of weak to be saying this and all, does anyone else feel this way in video games? (be honest, too, lol...)
In fact, Red Mountain freaked me out so much I had to get off and post a topic about it on here. Lol.

Planet of the Apes for PS1 when I was a lot younger always scared the hell out of me for some reason.

I don't think I ever got out of the jail where you start off.

Play Bioshock 1 in the pitch black, with 7.1 surround sound headphones on.

For sure, but they are usually games that are designed to scare you with a bit of horror aesthetic.
Like the Resident Evil series, or Dead Space.

Although swimming deep underwater in Morrowind always kinda creeps me out. I get claustrophobic feeling, and I know my breath is running low!

F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R 2. Scarier when played at night pitch black.

And Fallout Vaults.

Umm....I still haven't ventured into an Oblivion gate.

Yes I get scared like that all of the time. Probably the worst was the Dead Space 2 demo. After the first pop out, never again. I just don't generally like survival horror games. I always have an impending doom that I will die from something I wasn't ready for. I'm just weird like that. :teehee:

The Horror Mod for Morrowind was probably the scariest thing I've played. It wasn't like seeing a movie when I was little, I could still sleep and everything, but for some reason it just creeped me out.

metro 2033 at 3 am with stereo headsets. Hearing the cry of a nosalis stuck in a tunnel with your flashlight dead is epic. Staring down a librarian is scary [censored] in that game.

I'm hydrophobic so anything involving water and the nasty things that live in them always get me.

The best example I can give is the area full of sharks in the Resident Evil 1 remake.

I've gotten truly scared in video games a lot, like in the Silent Hill series and Dead Space, but the game that scared me the most was Condemned 2, specifically the bear level.

Dead Space, Resident Evil, Bioshock. If I'm in the dark and alone, I'm scared [censored]less.

Yes, what's the deal with all these "scary" threads today?
It's also hard for me to think of such a situation. Exciting or intense: yes, scary: no... Perhaps S.T.A.L.K.E.R. when it's night in-game and you're trying to avoid some nasties. But that was just brilliant and fun.
Amnesia came close, how could I forget.

Oh man. Metro 2033 didn't really scare me, but i have to say, it holds the title for the best game I've ever played. it's an awesome game. With 0 replayability.

There's only one other besides this.
And I posted it to sort of get away from climbing Red Mountain. Lol.

If that isn't enough, there was a third. Anyway, no real objection as far as I'm concerned... It's just striking in a way.

Well, that seems to be valid then.

The water monster in Amnesia terrifies me.. and the enemies in general made me crap my pants. Since you can't kill anything, rushing to hide in darkness was very stressful. And his damned nail biting all the time made me more on edge.

You're not alone on those Oblivion gates. I still haven't gone in one. As for vaults? I go and kill everything in there and take the loot
