Have you ever felt more anticipation for a game than you do

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 8:29 am

No they don't they are just slightly different in wording, with excitement replacing anticipation, I thought it was essentially the same.

The thread title is "Have you ever felt more anticipation for a game than you do for Skyrim?"

The poll question is "Is Skyrim your most anticipated game of all time?"

If you answer "Yes" to both of these questions, you just blew up the universe.

I played that when i was really young probably had no idea what i was doing, my dad used to play it alot and i would watch him and be amazed by the spoiled food, that game probably taught me the word spoilt.

Nostalgia overload.

I think what stood out most for me with Betrayal at Krondor was how enemies (and allies) actually got weaker in combat the lower their health was. Which makes TOTAL sense. If you have 2% of your life left after getting the snot beaten out of you I doubt you're swinging your own sword with much power. I LOVED that about BaK. Some battles ended up almost in a stalemate when you had everyone on the battlefield in a near-death state, but it only upped the tension, at least for me. Two battered and beaten warriors barely able to lift their swords, either missing completely or doing 1-2 points of damage.

All these years later I can't recall a single other game that handled combat like this. I always hated that an enemy just barely clinging to life could still manage to crit you for a huge amount of damage. "REALLY?! You're almost DEAD!"

Skyrim will make my short list of games most anticipated. Others would include Oblivion and Dragon Age: Origins.

@Guyguyson,

Betrayal at Krondor - wow! That was a long time ago, I had forgotten, but I did play it. Thanks for the memory, lol.

I was really looking forward to reach. Thinking it was going to be halo 4 but it was not. However, I have researched into skyrim and there is nothing I have read thats made me dislike. Merged greaves was close but custom armour more than makes up for it.

Maybe it has something to being older, and not feeling that much overblown anticipation for anything trivial anymore, but....

 It's just a game.

But, then, I've never really gotten that worked up over most things. Certainly never felt the need to go to midnight movie openings or game sales, or stand in long lines for sports or concert tickets, or anything like that. (Heck, last ten years or so, I wait til the second weekend to go to movies.... that way I can hit the Sunday morning show, and have the fewest people.)

I probably got all excited about game releases when I was a kid. But that's a long time ago, and I don't really remember clearly.

Exactly. This poll looks like from a kid excited in christmas times :)

Time will teach... I loved the times when I got over-excited for some toys or games coming out. Now, it's all relativity...

That being said, I am still waiting for the game and happy that I will play it. I expect hundreds of fun with it. But there are so many games, and beyond that, so many things to see in the world...

The game I was most hyped for was Mafia 2, then it just turned out to be OK!

The poll options need to be tweaked a bit, the Yes makes it seem as though you have been more excited about another game. It should be no.

There are two games in particular that I felt more anticipation for.
1) Civilization 3
2) Oblivion

Both games were (in my opinion) catastrophic failures. Good life lessons though! The level of expectation one feels has absolutely NO IMPACT on the quality of the object of expectation.

I was pretty hyped waiting for Daggerfall. Then when it hitted the retail shelves; my social life took a dive, to the detriment of my boyfriend who did offer me the game box :P

I dont know really.. I'm REALLY excited about Skyrim, and it's for sure one of the biggest excitement I've felt for a game. But I think waiting in the queue at midnight for wrath of the lich king and Cataclysm expansions for WoW was VERY exciting aswell.

So.. yeah.. I'm not sure, I think the WoW expansions and Skyrim maybe have to share the first place :)

I have been extremely excited for a lot of games. Like Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo:Reach, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3. Was also really excited for Fable 2, but then it became clear that the series was just going downhill. Also Crysis 2, which turned out to be way dumbed down from Crysis :( Anyways I don't believe I have ever been excited for a game like I am for Skyrim. It's CRAZY.

Yea, I think so. I remember being real excited for Halo 2. However, that could be that I was younger and less patient than now. My greatest game anticipation ever will probably be PSO 2 when that's a bit closer, been waiting ten years since the first one.

This is the same with me, though with regards to #2. If Skyrim was coming out as TES IV following Morrowind, then there is no doubt this would be my #1 anticipated game. Oblivion was that for me, since I had loved Morrowind with a passion, but although I did enjoy it (when heavily modded) it failed to deliver for me. Fallout 3 was a pleasant surprise for me, as I really had no lust for it (wishing they made another TES at the time instead) but it proved to be solid and well put together, a lot of fun. Skyrim has my favorite setting by far, but I have tempered my enthusiasm with a healthy dose of realism. It is better to under anticipate something and be pleasantly surprised than the reverse.

Pretty close.

I remember being really hyped for GTA4, Oblivion, and God of War 2. This is definitely up there.

No.
Thats mainly cause I just don't get very excited about videogames in general.

Now, on the eve of 10/11/11, well thats a different story.
