How does it make you feel?

(Please make sure you don't post spoilers regarding quests and storyline, thanks.)

Not in New Vegas, i quicksave constantly and am aware of my last autosave location , but in Oblivion where i have autosaves disabled for stability reason i forget it, and often lose up to 30 minutes of progress :swear:

I forget sometimes, then I reload and quicksave 10 times the first 5 minutes, 1 time the next 20 minutes, and then nothing :)

Lets just say I've lost 4 hours, after not remembering to save when I should have, and then coming to a decision I know I will definitely not take now lol. Still svcks when you happen to do so much productivity in 4 hours of game time. :banghead: :swear: :violin:

Edit: I would like it if there was such thing as a "Revert 15 minutes" type save hahahaha.

I hard save often, more often than I can even admit to. During a quest, like the Three-Card Bounty quest, I'll have many saves in sequence in case it doesn't go the way I want...like someone's head has a problem because Boone goes nutzo or having too low of a skill for a speech challenge. Then I don't have to redo hours of play and it can still be fun. The only auto-save I have is on Wait because I hardly ever use it. That being said, if I get too immersed, I can lose 10-20 minutes on a freeze. I wish it wasn't this way...I shouldn't have to worry about it so much.

I pound the quicksave alot, and make periodic hard saves in different slots. Once however I forgot to make a hardsave for a while and a hostility bug occurred and I lost 2 hours.

On my first playthrough, I played for hours on end and got as far as Primm (doing loads of quests as well, not just walking there). The game then froze and crashed. I had to restart the entire game. Ever since that fateful night, i save every 10mins.

I save regularely, but once when I was getting rid of the deathclaws in order to get some nice action shots, I found out later that fraps hadn't recorded anything  30 minutes of epicness lost...

Have you forgotten to save after a few hours?

In other games, sure, it's happened now and then. Usually doesn't bother me too much because re-doing it always takes about 1/4 the time it took me to do it the first time, but still annoying.

In NV tho, no, hasn't happened yet. The constant CTD's in the original version of the game taught me to hard-save in a new slot constantly. Since all the patches I've mellowed out on that a little bit but I still make at least 100 saves per game...and that's (edit:not) including saves I make for specific, non-gameplay/quest reasons (such as for testing mods, making videos, wanting a save of something particular for reference, etc). I have no auto-saves on at all, only time that happens is the few that the game forces on you at quest points. Do use quicksave a lot. Since I like to keep total saves in the Save folder kinda small, I constantly backup elsewhere with readmes and delete them from the game folder, too. :P

During a quest, like the Three-Card Bounty quest, I'll have many saves in sequence in case it doesn't go the way I want...like someone's head has a problem because Boone goes nutzo or having too low of a skill for a speech challenge. Then I don't have to redo hours of play and it can still be fun.

I do the same thing. I keep trying to make a perfect set of saves, with a save just before every single point in the game that I personally enjoy/might want to replay (or capture on a video), which would probably amount to at least 250 saves, haha, but so far I keep getting distracted (or a new patch comes out, or I try a mod that alters the equation) and then....

Hours? Holy hell I instinctively press F5 every 20 seconds or so. Sometimes I reload and think "wait I saved the game here?".

I use CASM, which I have configured to save every five minutes. I also quicksave a lot whenever I'm about to do, or have just finished, a big battle or some other important event.

I get caught up in the game ans forget. I once went back to the same spot ten times. It was right before bonnie springs and those stupid raiders kept killing me or my companions and I just kept forgetting to save. :sadvaultboy:

Yes on saving, no on not using quick save..
Though often it's due to quick saving just at the wrong time, in NV early on this can be a common problem if you like facing big'uns as a challenge.
Giving up is how it makes me feel, I'd just started playing Arcanum again this last few days, patched, better resolution.. etc.
I now keep forgetting to save and have repeated the same things three + times.

The trick I find is to keep 3 back ups, as well as the quick / auto save.

1 to save every couple of RL days in.
1 to save every quest, or half hour or so.
The 3'rd to use on and off to back up the second.

Also corrupted saves, silly bugs and stupid overwrites have popped up for me.

There were enough times I forgot to save during quests that I decided to put autosave on travel on as backup as well as using quicksave. Forgetting to save after hours of gameplay though, i've never had that problem as my game crashes quite often in the outdoors. I'm becoming quite paranoid about saving actually.

You had to ask...
Once, during an epic day-off-from-work-play-all-day session, I cleared out the entire South-Western side of the map (Goodsprings east to Hidden Valley, south to the Mojave Outpost, including all the powder ganger camps, the prison, the Bison Steve, Goodsprings Cave, etc) and got so caught up I did not make a single save (autosave off to prevent bugs). Think about 6 hours.
After leaving the Outpost I took a right at the bottom of the hill and left the game to let the cat out. Got back just in time to see my character being eaten by Nightstalkers. Stupid cat.
I am now extremely careful about frequent saves.
Does anyone know, is it safe to turn on autosave now? Has it been fixed?

I always make hard saves, generally cycle through 100 by overwriting them. I have probably loaded back to 20 minutes of gameplay, but I'm pretty good about it.

Nein, I save every two minutes, and and another every 30.

That's mostly true.

Maybe there needs to be an Achievement Trophy for skillful saving. :D

Thanks for the tips.

I just lost 13 hours of gameplay, though not due to a failure to save. After adding a new HDD and reinstalling my OS, I failed to back up my most recent saves :banghead: . Fortunately I had backed up everything on my pc a couple of weeks ago so I didn't lose the other 119 hours of play ;)
